  1. Where's the CTS... or was an overinflated price tag a prerequisite? Are those plastic 'block-off' inserts in place of options in the lexus (to the left of the steering wheel)? Classy.
  2. You 'don't like the look' but the 'design statement is where Buick should be'?? This Imp, if brought to market, has the appearances of being at least in the 60K range (if it's so similar to a rolls, I guess that number could be much higher). That price level is well outside Buick's & deeply into Cadillac's (not to mention the Imp would be deeply into mercedes's range). It looks to have a nicely upscale interior, but I fail to see anything beyond that that should be applied to Buick. And Dear God but LEDs look trashy & cheap. It's apparently so easy to run a string of them that cars in general are probably going precisely in this direction; festooned with rows of tiny bare bulbs like a chintzy X-mas display. Double Blech!
  3. They did; where we you throughout the '90s?
  4. My brother had a mess of rats in his '36 house last summer. They were in the basement, the walls, the attic... One day we were boarding & blocking things up and I saw 3 of them. They bored a hole from the outside into the basement and were running wild. We blocked up all the holes and they're gone now. I had a few mice in the attic & garage last summer, so I blocked things up and left them some 'appetizers'- they seem to be gone. My house is a '92. I won't tolerate living with mice. I had an aunt who lived up in Vermont in a house she dated back to at least 1812 (Coolest place in the world). She would catch the mice in traps, carry them outside and set them free. Undoubtedly they would scurry right back inside before she herself got back in. That place was riddled with mice.
  5. Thanks for posting this, HE! I had forgotten completely about the FC Jeep pickups, then I saw a pic in Old Cars Weekly a year ago. These are doornail simple but they intrique me all the same... prolly because I cannot recall the last time I've seen one (either on the road or in a junkyard)- has to be decades. I would think I'd see one here or there at a car show or something... but zilch! Got any more pics or ads?
  6. The safe door has a reversible cover with the KISS logo on the other side, and the interior upholstery can be changed out for Spandex.
  7. Saab first pawned off 49% (or was it 51%) of their company to the highest bidder in 1989.
  8. Is this Dan Neil the same guy who's NY Times piece dubbed the '04 GP's grilles "Hitler's moustache"??
  9. '57 DeSoto: one of my top 5 favorite mainstream designs of all time. Bonus- I love the way 'Dee-SO-TOE' rolls off the tongue. My buddy had a copper over pale red Firedome hardtop with the 341 Hemi. Sweet machine.
  10. Currently I only have 1 co-worker. For the most part he's good people (and the fact that he's my brother has nothing to do with that assessment), but lately he has been getting on my nerves in a big way. Time to move on.
  11. He is asking for 3 people total.
  12. Rear-mount engine: 9.7L aluminum flat 6, square bore/stroke, hemi heads, direct injection, hydraulic valves, light weight, compact dimensions, low compression, low RPM, moderate HP, tremendous TRQ, 28 MPG at cruising speeds, twin variable-pitch TRQ converters with half-shafts directly to the rear wheels, individual pipes for each cylinder. Or: Front-mount, aluminum, magnesium & chrome moly, 12.6L V-12, air-cooled, hemi heads, OHCs, dual ignition, dry sump, supercharged. 1010 HP. Anyone know the whereabouts of an example of either of these, please PM me immediately.
  13. If Chrysler's not careful, Imperial will sue:
  14. It's in a concrete vault, but how or how well that was sealed, I don't know. I can easily see this baby, even if surface-rusted & dry-rotted all over, going on eBay for huge coin. It's the only brand new '57 Plymouth left!
  15. The Tucker sounds awesome- 6 cylinders pumping thru 6 outlets... tho unfortunately I've only heard it on film and not in reality. I'm with Flybrian on the worst: nissan G35.
  16. Yup- that's it!
  17. History points to the first "Buick" engine as being built in 1900, under the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company, a precurser to Buick Motor Company. I should have worded the question differently with regards to Cadillac. Cadillac founder H.M. Leland was building gas marine engines & steam trolley engines by the year 1896, tho these were not under the name "Cadillac" but Leland & Faulconer. Those were what I was thinking of and thusly you can see the flaw in my wording. Engines manufacturered under the "Cadillac" name were built beginning in 1902- the first year of the Company.
  18. ...and to whom? >>"I sold you my car and I sold you my name, but I'm not going to sell myself to you. I'm going to smoke my cigarettes as much as I want. And I'm getting out."<<
  19. LSD also was instrumental in limited-one-wheel traction, tho perhaps traction control addresses that now. Interesting: G80 has been the GM code for LSD since at least 1965.
  20. No likey: like Sixty8 said: too tall, too stubby. Very little grace. I give the exterior (based on these pics) a 2 on a 1-10 scale. But there are definate Imperial cues: that's the '62 grille up front. Rolls' designs are built starting around their archaic grille... and this one looks nothing like the rolls. Suicide doors are a keeper, but start from Square 1 on the rest. Get the damned thing longer and lower: in the dark it'd be confused with a cube van! I'd also like to see a modern version of the Southhampton stainless roof- that'd be A-1 unique!!
  21. I for one wasn't offended in the least. But you have to understand how your post read. >>"...Seville (on the Nova platform)"<< is completely different than saying >>"based (however loosely)"<<. It's like identifying a fine art painting as a 'blank stretched canvas' instead of recognizing what the final product is. The Seville's engineering start is hardly the point relative to the production car, right? Aren't we talking about the production car in this case? Most people (not neccesarily you however) only focus on the 'blank canvas' of the Seville's frame's origin because they have a dismissive attitude and a tendancy (often inadvertantly due to quoting popular opinion) to belittle General Motors' product. This is a way to do so while still being technically 'correct', but it's still misleading and in a way; disrespectful. One is free and clear to disrespect all one wants, but if in doing so bases such on inaccuracies, those comments are likely to be called into question. Nothing personal, enzl. BTW- the Seville wikipedia entry is one I also had to correct, but 'regulars' there who apparently have some sort of imaginary reps as 'all-knowing' changed it back, I believe. Obviously, I need to go & stick a sharp stick in there again...
  22. The whole town car/sedanca deville appearance doesn't work especially well for me either; too unbalanced IMO. Still, I would love to even brush up against a few concepts cars 'in the steel' (actually, I have). Between the 2 above, I actually prefer the Parisienne. The EB TC loses the spectacular brushed stainless roof- bad! My favorite is the prototype '55 EB- gorgeous all around. The rear view may be the most beautiful ever IMHO. Ocn- the A-body itself was not the problem, it was decreasing performance. The SD455 should've been available in the '73 as initially planned and it would've equaled just about any previous GTO with no problem- in the T/A it turned low 13s in the quarter... XP715- you should check out the thread stickied under the Lounge titled The XP DNA Project- loads of picture links there!
  23. 'Last' usage before the last few years was on the limited production '87 GNX. Before that; yes- the '84 Electra.
  24. Ven- you are close on the "Ford & Oldsmobile were part of the initial talks with Durant" but that's not it.
  25. Before I found C&G, I used to linger on C&D's boards. I once posted excerpts from C&D's '81 review of the Cimarr0n, which was by & far positive... and I gave proper credit for the author and I did NOT editorialize (didn't have to- article said plenty). The thread was quickly yanked within hours & without explaination. I assume a strong 'block' from their Cadillac 'punching bag' would've spoiled their fun. Strangely, I have started to see a few Cimarr0ns on the road this past year, when I hadn't seen any for years & years.
