In retrospect, maybe the original STS design would have been more successful than that actual bland production version. With a few tweaks, the Imaj concept could have been a stunner instead of looking awkward.
  14. I miss the ducks, the merlettes. I think the streamlined current logo is a little too streamlined. Sometimes I wonder if that disastrous Catera marketing campaign, which included a commercial with the ducks coming off the crest with animation, had anything to do with it.

I was at the BMW dealer today to check out the 1-Series, though I didn't drive one or even sit in one. It looks cute in person, and I would consider a 128i if I wanted to go the BMW route. I did drive a 335i, which was plenty nice. I'm not normally a fan of turbos, but the car doesn't suffer from any turbo lag. It's a more interesting ride than the old 330i, as you'd expect. I drove an M3 last week, which is almost too much car. It's slightly weak of torque for a millisecond off the line, then revs like crazy. It has extremely powerful, almost touchy brakes. At about $67K, it's not priced in the stratosphere, but the 14/20 mpg rating seems a little irresponsible these days. BMW still has some the best balanced, best handling cars out there.

This relationship has outlived those with Isuzu, Suzuki, and Subaru. Perhaps PCS can provide the rationale of the continuing relationship, though it does provide GM with a lot of things: - Continuing knowledge of the Toyota way of building vehicles - A very high mileage vehicle that attracts people who may not otherwise purchase another GM vehicle - Use of a factory that Toyota may otherwise want for the Corolla or Tacoma, currently built at the NUMMI plant in Fremont, or for the Prius
  21. Getting an economic subcompact seems to be the way to go instead of worrying about what's the next thing to go wrong on the Fleetwood. Keeping the Fleetwood as a second car would be great, but only if you had money to spare. I prefer the HHR over the leftover Vibes, which have no power. The HHR does have a bit of a toy-like feel, though. Most people here don't like the G6, but as long as it doesn't have the electric power steering, it's not a bad car, better than the W-bodies. For a solid feel, a VW would be the way to go. The Civic and Mazda3 should also be on the list, as with the Fit. I haven't driven a Smart, but a friend did, and he said that it's really slow. It would give you a lot of looks though.
  22. I think there may be a slight resurgence in the minivan segment as the practical alternative to monstrous full-size SUVs. I could even see myself get one in a couple of years, though a hybrid powertrain is a near-must for me. It looks like Toyota will be the first out with a hybrid minivan.
  23. Hummer was a pointless diversion the last few years.
