  1. Cool...thanks! Now, here's to hoping that someone actually makes that available after-market, because I like it...if I can ever afford one of these babies, I want that guard!
  2. On the Big Red, could you tell if that was a grille guard over the stock headlights, or was it a whole front-end replacement with custom lights?
  3. Serious "F. U." to the huggers. It might make a decent commuter car if it can go far enough in a day, and the photosynthesis+fuel cell part DOES appeal to my environmentally-conscious side (though I'll still drive my trucks on weekends and long trips, thanks Plus, the Hummer-meets-Mars Rover-meets-Tumbler styling certainly is interesting...
  4. Well, Infiniti could make a trade dress issue out of that logo...not EXACTLY close, but maybe close enough? Though if Hyundai can get away with theirs, maybe Chery can get away with this one. Plus, isn't GM keeping (or trying to keep) Chery from using the "Chery" name in any market where "Chevy" is marketed?
  5. You know, I just looked again...I just came to the conclusion that Dale Jr. should have designed the front end of the truck to begin with. All I want is someone to come up with an integrated headlight cluster and grille combo that can give any -900 silvy the "don't f--- with me" look that this one sports.
  6. Oh, man, that is a SWEET silvy! If that front end work is available from GM, I'm there...
  7. damn you for beating me to the pun!
  8. Nah, it was Jesse James and the Monster Garage crew...
  9. Absolutely beautifully crafted post. I believe it was Spiro Agnew who had a great description for people like buickman..."Nattering nabobs of negativism". buickman's incessant vitreol does wear on me. I think everyone who knows much at all about the auto industry (and who cares about GM's future) has a "plan to save GM". I have one of my own, which I would be willing to post on here AND truly accept criticism if I got a few people who were interested in hearing it. I don't even care about any kind of job or money that might go along with it, I just want GM to return to being the best car manufacturer in the world...specifically because I like GM's products, and would like to continue buying their cars until I'm too old and feeble to get behind the wheel any longer.
  10. Yeah, Chevy dealer stock in Hayward CA is very heavily tilted towards new Tahoes and Avalanches, with a fair number of classic silverados on the lot...only a handful of the others. I think 1 HHR, 1 Aveo, 2 Cobalts, and I don't remember seeing a malibu at all.
  11. Somebody hire that guy to take the product shots! I swear, the truck looks SO much better here than it has in the publicity pics, even the 1/2 ton silvy (still the worst-looking of the bunch IMO, but the silvy HD somehow looks better than the Sierra to me). From an artistic point of view, I think the problem is that the trucks just look plain weird from the low-oblique angles GM's been using in it's pub photos. The trucks both look much meaner from a straight-on to slightly-above angle, which is where the human head will usually be anyway.
  12. I think those front fender flares on the Chevy look a LOT better with the dually flares than they do without. Where the 1500 looked overdone and gaudy, the HD looks like a roman gladiator with a bad attitude. I noticed the grille difference back when they released those ultra-zoom shots a while back, too. It helps the Chevy's looks BIG TIME. It doesn't look cross-eyed anymore. Given the choice, I think I'd go with a Chevy at this point. The GMC just looks a little too Ford for my taste.
  13. Looks just as pissed off as the '03-'07 Silverados. If they can make this thing cheap enough, maybe they can compete with the japanese manufacturers in the ricer market...steal some of the Honda core.
  14. Black on black on black on black? They should've called it the Mafia Edition.
  15. Agreed, the tailgate is the Sierra's ugliest styling detail. Hopefully someone will come up with a better-looking flush aftermarket tailgate before too long. I don't understand why the pics I've seen so far are the brown...it's a very stodgy, un-flattering color for any car. Even white would look better than the brown, I'm sure. Color can make a HUGE difference in how a truck looks overall...I've seen it with just about every truck on the road. The Sierra front end does look a little bit "Ford", but all the pics I've seen of the two truck models leave me liking the Sierra's styling more than the Silverado's, at least in the light-duty trim. I'm still interested to see good pics (and specs and pricing) for the HD/1-ton models of both trucks...the pics C&G posted a while back were enticing, but not exactly satisfying.
  16. Oh, that's a thing of beauty. Exactly when did GM stop with the hardtop styling? My dad's '65 SS is post-less, too...it just looks so much cleaner on a sporty coupe than a post.
  17. Yeesh, don't remind me about CA enviro-politics. We got an assembly bill AND a ballot proposition out right now that are going to destroy this state (billions in taxes and ridiculously-stringent emissions requirements, both of which will cause skyrocketing energy and gasoline/diesel costs.) Makes me wish I could move the whole damned family to an interior state where overzealous enviro-whackos don't own the government. The Feds ought to standardize emission control standards, fuel blends, etc across all 50 states...to hell with this piecemeal approach.
  18. Yeah, cuz the taped-on bowtie on the GMC will fool anyone who knows their trucks for more than 5 seconds...I would love to know what they were thinking. The GMC DOES look better than the standard ones, grill makes it look less wimpy, but I'd still take a Tahoe first.
  19. I'm curious to see the enhancements to the duramax for '07. Given that I'd like to buy a diesel 1-ton in a few years, that's the most important item on this list for me. Guess I'll just have to see what happens when the new Silverado/Sierra HD's come out in Q1...
  20. I didn't mean to say Con-Air and The Rock weren't good action movies...they were. They just didn't really have the plot development that the Island had...I think that one really proved that Bay has a place in a broader range of movies than "short attention-span theater". What it's all gonna boil down to at this point is the writing.
  21. I don't know, it might not be so bad as far as direction goes. Michael Bay is good at action. When he did "the Island", I thought he did a good job on plot development scenes, too...I was pleasantly surprised given The Rock, Con Air, and his other earlier works. I'm more concerned about the writers. While the ones listed on imdb aren't as bad as the ones I'd heard were going to be doing the project a while back, there's a hit-or-miss level to their combined works (not fond of Xena or Hercules, for sure). And I did grow up on Transformers, so I know what it was all about. I'm glad GM is so heavily backing this project (though I thought that the Mustang Decepticon was a lovely touch). I think that Jazz would've been a better choice for the Camaro, though, and have Bumblebee just be a lowly Saturn or something. Oh yes, and based on the pics in the first link, does Ironhide look like a Kodiak Cinch to anyone else? I'd say that a Cinch would perfectly complement Ironhide's hard-ass personality...though it would've been funny to have him be a Venture or something, just for the disparity between personality and the mundane vehicle he transformed into.
  22. Yeesh...is it my imagination, or are Japanese cars as a whole getting uglier? (and yes, I realize it's a mule, but that's probably a near-production front end). even my much-maligned Aztek looks better than most of the stuff coming out of Japan these days, especially in SUV/Truck-land. (Let the flames begin). The best-looking product Honda has ever churned out is the VTX motorcycle.
  23. Sure can...but only if they're built off of a silverado Heck, the only good-looking class-C RV's are the lucky few built on a C5500 Kodiak chassis...
  24. If history is any indication, they'll ship in early '08 as an '09 model.
