So Much For Fellowship & Peace Towards Men
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in The Lounge
I agree... This year seems to have been a big turning point. It seems that these stories are very common now, almost as though it is sport. That's why it's time for me to get my conceal and carry. :AH-HA_wink: It's very sad.... But I'm sure it'll only get worse. I guess all those years of desensitization are finally taking effect. Violent crime had been trending down until last year, but then thanks to the lack of opportunity, drug use and the media hysteria it started trending back up. My question is; why didn't anyone help this guy? I would definitely help someone if they were being beaten to death. In fact, I'd love to see some asshole like that try to attack me. Too bad cowards like this never attack the strong. -

I almost fell out of my drivers side window when I noticed this Chevrolet advertisement on a billboard parallel to I-85 in Charlotte NC. The ad is sponsored by Sonny Hancock Chevrolet. I'm home for a week. But when I go back to Charlotte, I *WILL* get a picture, you can bet on it! I was LOVING every minute of it! I mean, just with the term 'yuppie' alone they have what, like 85% of Toyota's clientele captured. EDIT: Der, I spelled Yankee wrong... LOL.

So basically, Nissan is going to make Chrysler it's bitch in order to crack the VERY profittable truck market here while Chrysler gains either 1) A car that won't sell well here, and even if it does, probably won't help their bottom line at all -OR- 2) A car that is supposed to sell in Europe, yet will not because it'll have the rotten luck of bearing the name and lineage of a 'dreaded' american car company. Yeah... I've seen this scam before: Subaru/GM.... Ford/Toyota (hybrid technology in exchange for heavy truck technology)... Fiat/GM... Daimler/Chrysler and the list goes on. The folks at Cerberus should say "NO thanks" and escort the Nissan folks to the door as quickly as possible. You know, before they do the typical japanese trick of RIPPING OFF technology and design from the Ram project anyway. I still think (Sadly) Chrysler will eventually wind up in the hands of China.

Nope. They're fine, upstanding, professional journalists. (I've always admitted my bias; and it is intentional)

Funny you should mention that... My girlfriend got into a huge debate the other day with her brother's leftie wacko girlfriend when she (the brother's GF) brought up the fact that we should use solar panels on everthing. My GF explained how that was a bad idea and how many more cost effective things could be done to save energy and the leftie nut really got flustered. (Of course, this is the same person who believes that GM had "carbureator technology" in the 80's that would get 100MPG and subsequently -- just like the big, evil corporation they are, sold it to Chevron who destroyed it.) It's funny how naive some people are these days.

First off, the whole 'green movement' is nothing more than the social movement of the moment. Sure, there will always be greenies and there always has been but the movement has just recently begun under the Gore The average social movement only lasts about 5 years before everyone gets tired of it. This is already happening in some places (Remember? Europeans now view the green 'commitment' as just another way to regulate our lives) Honestly, I don't think it'll ever get to the point of disaster that griffon predicts because there is too much at stake. As far as the old cars go, that's fine by me. Like I've stated before, my costs are very little because the cars are driven less than 500 miles each year. Heck, gas could reach $5/gallon and it really wouldn't affect me that much. The classic car industry already has lobbyists and groups formed and working for us. HOPEFULLY they have the foresight to be keeping an eye on things and can be proactive as opposed to reactive. We fight 'recycling' laws every year and as far as neighbors doing it for me; I'll never live in the Suburbia hell that is an owners association, so I don't see that happening anytime soon. You guys are so bleak that it floors me (Which is funny, since I'm usually Mr. Negativity) We have very good technology and a society that has adjusted to change very well thus far. I just don't see a communist-like push to destroy ALL cars. Maybe some, like large SUVs that a lot of people shouldn't be driving anyway, but not everything. Hell, even the yuppies will start bitching when they start having to give up their Highlanders, 4Runners and Camrys.

Well.... I would either: 1) Rock my ass off to one of the FEW GnR songs that I'll admit to liking. 2) Laugh and go about my business. 3) Head immediately to the office to "take care" of the problem. SERIOUSLY, she KNEW where the person APPARENTLY telling her she's 'gonna die' was. Anyone with half a brain knows that's mistake number one on the part of the attacker if you're really trying to attack someone. That's like standing at a crosswalk and holding a gun while your would be robbery victim walks up to you. Not to mention, it's a LARGE PUBLIC BUILDING. It's safe to assume that you're never alone as support staff or other staff members are always there doing something. I can understand that the lady might've been a little scared or freaked out at first. But the simple fact that she didn't have enough common sense to deduce the above, or most of all that these are some of the most well known lyrics of probably the biggest band of the late 80's, tells me that maybe she shouldn't be teaching. As far as the kids and their guns/shootings... I predicted this 2-3 years ago when our pop culture went from trash to trash that all of the sudden has an affinity for guns. (With all of the 'gangsta rap' and media portraying guns as a source to solve all of our problems, but that's a different argument entirely.) Suffice it to say, it's a sad time when a young persons day consists getting in the car and listening to music that involves constant references to guns only to arrive at a mall to shop at 'urban' outlets featuring clothing lines with pictures of guns and slogans involving the use of guns. Then, said young person goes to see a "PG-13" movie that glorifies the use of guns and afterwards arrives back home in time to see his favorite rapper video in with his idol is waiving guns around. Or better yet spends the rest of the night vegetating in front of a 'sniper' game. Is my version simplified? Sure, but you get the picture and I only think it'll get worse now that 'being hard' is cool and being in a gang is the new trend (Gang membership is quickly trending up for the first time since the 80's) And keep in mind, this opinion is coming from a person who is no stranger to pleasure from darkness. My favorite film is Sin City and my favorite song deals with the death of the world. However, enough is enough and unhealthy amounts of exposure is just that; unhealthy.

Nope, I'll stick to the classics. If I want a golf cart, I'll buy one and save the extra cash for all the liquor I'd need to buy to stave off constant depression. And why exactly?!?! We can run factory V8's off of much more than oil. (Hydrogen, Ethanol, CNG) I think the real answer lies in a combination of things... 20 years from now, will hybrids and electrics be a dominant form of transportation? YES. But will we gearheads still have the option of a V8 in the same showroom? MORE THAN LIKELY. Remember: This isn't going to happen over night and we're not looking at the death of the V8 anytime soon. Gas was more expensive in the 80's and more scarce in the 70's. What did we do? We engineered better performance cars. Sounds like you need a change of location, my friend. If the CAFE passed seriously affects our choice (Which I think it ultimately won't -- I'm optimistic that if the companies are embracing it now; THAT says something) I'll just stick with older cars and probably say 'to hell with the hobby' When they come to take my old cars... Well, that's when I'll have the guns ready and I guess it'll be the end. (I'm seriously as your mother-in-law about that too)

See, I'm no fan of C&D or Edmunds (They can all burn for what I care) But the tone of the C&D article is actually technical and informative... At least if they had a bitch, they justified it with something other than lazy friggin' punch lines. You know, like the tired ones being thrown around here by certain members about the car being a rip-off, or of an older clientele (Too bad no one ever notices that one in a Scion or Element review). The article from Edmunds is about as professional as something that a drunk trailer park dweller might write about a theatre performance.

I miss Josh... I've posted with Josh for many years (almost as long as I've posted with Camino) We used to burn the boards up here, GMI, CZ28, SSRRS and at TCC. He was much better back in those days, I'm not sure what happened. Then again, I guess we all change. (Look at what I turned into) I think he was a part of the best times here at C&G and he certainly contributed to the success of this site, like it or not. I really wish things could've turned out differently as I think we had such a good staff back then (Not that we don't now, because it's largely the same people minus a few of us) Oh well.... Feel free to flame me if you want.

I'd LOVE to see some snow. It's been a long time.

Bear in mind that this is a Healy piece. So, naturally it's like reading the rant of a senile army general. One sided, incoherent and devoid of facts.

I had a blast too, everyone was very cool. I felt kind of rushed though, because I had a Relay For Life meeting that night and had to rush off a little early. I'm a big fan of this kind of thing because I think it's cool that a lot of us are so close, yet we've never met and probably wouldn't even know each other on the street if we passed. It's nice to put a face with a name.

What a dumb teacher. I swear, people seem to get more and more ignorant.

A half assed, $h!ty review from a $h!ty, half assed publication. The more things change; the more they stay the same.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to nitpick that out... It's the same thing that happened with the SSR. I think a lot of it has to do with classic Chevy cues. It seems that 'classic' Chevy lines (the big element that made 60's Chevies so appealing) translate perfect into concept but not so well when a price point is attached in production. I loved the SSR though, and I suppose I'll love the Camaro... In fact, if things keep going the way they are this will probably be my first new, and new GM, car. But a lot of the appeal of the concept, for me, was the very aggressive vibe that the car portrayed (It's the same reason I like the Focus, old A&S, Trans Ams, etc.) I certainly hope that isn't lost in the translation to production.

It's been pretty normal in my home town. But here in Charlotte it's been pretty strange. This week we've consistently had highs in the 70's & 80's but by this weekend we're supposed to be back down in the 30's. No rain or snow in sight... We're still in a stage 4/5 drought and we only have a little upwards of 100 days of water left according to one news source. Looks like we can stink up the place soon with Atlanta when they start rationing water so much that we can't take showers.

Wow! I'm floored! (Seriously, I am) Maybe Dan Neil isn't such an asshole after all.... NAH! I'm sure he still is. But thanks for admitting defeat anyway Mr. Neil. The bias still exists, like I've said and will continue to say, a few good reviews will not make up for years of destroying our industry.
