It's been WAY too long since we had a movie thread!
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to FUTURE_OF_GM's topic in The Lounge
Add me to the list pressuring you to see them. I am not a fan of 'whoring a movie out' for the sake of cash through sequels, but the Saw franchise actually pulls it off well because the killer never actually kills anyone. So it's easy to reinvent the story in a number of different ways. That's opposed to, say, Freddy who kills people the same way with basically the same smart assed remarks throughout the series. BTW, They are remaking Friday the 13th (The same people who made Freddy vs. Jason) so I'm interested in seeing it. Also Clive Barker has expressed big time interest in remaking Hellraiser. I think the original Hellraiser is a classic, so as with Friday the 13th, I'm optimistic but kinda pissed about it. This is especially true after seeing how bad Rob Zombie destroyed Halloween. I'm a Zombie fan through and through but Halloween was probably the worst movie I've seen this year. -
Has the weather changed a lot there? If so, that's probably the problem with the carb. When the weather changes here, my Camaros go from running well to running like $h! unless I adjust their carbureators. Seriously, it makes a huge difference especially if it's been 'tuned' or messed with any for performance purposes. If the carb doesn't need a rebuild, it basically takes a screwdriver and about 5 minutes if you know what you're doing. FWIW, what you are experiencing is pretty normal. Anyone with an older car will tell you that. It's a love/hate relationship and it'll get better with time. Right now, you're just working the quirks out of the car and that can be torture when you don't have a lot of $$$ or knowledge. (I've been there and still am there in the $$$ respect) Don't give up on the car though, it just has a lot of personality

I beg to differ.... What at Buick doesn't "put you to sleep?" Pretty much nothing besides the Enclave. What about Cadillac? IMO, the Escalade line, V-Series and top option CTS are nice. However, the STS and SRX are dated, the DTS is becoming dated and the XLR is past dated. I've seen two new CTS; the first one was a lower level car that was nice but not terribly impressive and the second was a top of the line car that I fell in love with. Saturn probably has the best design language at GM right now. Saab looks to be getting things in order, if they'll ever roll anything out. The Hummer look is getting staid and needs to be tweaked. GMC has a good amalgamation, but is too conservative for me in everything but the Denali line (for the most part --- Damn I miss "Terra") The Corvette and new Malibu make Chevrolet exciting, but a lot of their stuff is still lackluster. Alas, my last hope is Pontiac, which offers the Solstice as it's single stylish offering. I'm not being overly negative. I'm merely pointing out that the style renaissance at GM has just begun and still needs to make a lot of progress.

This piece is FULL of errors and blatant fabrication. Japan didn't "dominate" passenger car market in the 80s. Detroit doesn't need incentives "just to get people in the door" Toyota has never "stood behind their customers" Has this guy even experienced customer service at a Toyota dealer?!?! Not to mention, the whole article features a 'yes, but' mindset similar to the one used in the reviews of GM's new models. Excepting the fact that this 'yes, but' is in favor of Toyota as opposed to the anti-GM 'yes but' Then, to top it all off, the Toyota spokesperson BLAMES the problem with the initial car on someone else. That's both typical and a sign of just how arrogant Toyota is now. Take it for what it's worth I guess... Toyota definitely appears to be slowing down and/or breaking down, let's just hope they can't fix it. It's sad that the media can't even write a bad article about Toyota without adding a 'yes, but' or smoothing things over for fear of being a black sheep organization in this country. BTW, as for the incentives, this local dealer is advertising $8000 rebates, 0% financing, no payments 'til 2008 and; "We have rebates galore" as well as, "If you buy a cheap piece of merchandise with incentives, it's just cheap. But if you buy a quality piece of merchandise with an incentive; it's just a bargain." http://www.harrelsontoyota.com/

I'm pretty flexible, it takes me roughly 2 hours to get back to Charlotte from the house. (Doing the speed limit) -
So I go to Foreign Car & Import Driver.com

I think he has a valid point, and so do all of the automakers apparently. Wasn't the Xover invented for this very reason. Heck, the Element was even marketed (with it's doors) as a direct alternative to minivans. Unfortunately, image is everything in style-concious america. I probably would never drive a minivan, but mostly that's because I'll never have 3 kids or a load of crap to carry around either. -
Actually, that's pretty impressive! (And I'm sure it's not in the same way a lot of you are thinking )

Corn Ethanol has some efficiency issues but I hope we do continue to explore that route. Especially biofuels that use various parts of the plants, I think that's where the true efficiency gains lie. -
What's Edmunds' take? If you're into throwing around such literary gems as "Hoss" and "Big Tex," this truck will make you put your 10-gallon hat on your chest and kneel down in homage. And we like it. Heck, it'd be un-American not to. — James Tate, Contributor That statement is so wrong in MANY ways. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/autoshow...ojecttruck.html

"Ghetto dude" is now somehow a racial slur?!?!? Give me a break... That terminology could be applied to any race. I agree that we (the west) are basically destroying ourselves. And the people know it, they just don't seem to care.

It'll sell anyway, despite it's hideous face.

Looks like the old car with bumper kits.

:rotflmao: Oh wait, you weren't kidding this time either I was talking about the front page of C&D. This one: http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB119...6664555529.html Good. Although, like most of the beloved insiders here, I wouldn't ever accuse you of being on GM's side. It's my 'style' Close, but not exactly... IMO, the Pacifica should've been used against the T&C. Sure, it isn't a crossover, per se, but it's close enough. And C&D is the king of apples to oranges comparisons. I hope you're not talking about me, because I've never been 'pro' C&D and never will be. (At least I admit my bias) *** Anyway, all I'm saying is that I found a lot of those coincidences interesting. Is it causation (i.e. did a hatred for the domestics cause this article to appear?) Probably not. Is it correlated to the larger mindset that domestics aren't as good as product 'X'? Of course! And that has been my explanation of the media all along; the bias is subconciuos and learned through years of "bad" product/strategy, supposedly from the domestic producers. -
Article: "GM will offer DUB-branded tires on trucks, SUVs"
FUTURE_OF_GM replied to PurdueGuy's topic in General Motors
I think this is good for business.. Anyone remember the announcement by GM (at SEMA) a few years ago about how GM Accessories would be rolling out a huge line of wheels that would actually be offered on the cars/trucks at the dealer? It started with the GMT800 wheel line (Which has been downsized with GMT900 I think) and was supposed to filter throughout the line up. As far as I know, it never happened, as I've never witnessed any GM car with 'aftermarket' wheels at the dealership. Hopefully this will open the door to something like that. Not that I want an Impala with Dubs, but it would be nice to have the choice of an attractive aftermarket wheel. EDIT: I know GM Accessories offers a few options, but for the most part their choices are very limited. -
Jap is not a racial slur; it hasn't ever offended anyone I know -- and don't bother whining unless you're asian, because 'guilt stricken' white people just annoy me. Jap is a terminology that is used like 'gay' or 'yank' or 'redneck' Sure, it's annoying, but it's not as serious as the afore mentioned. Secondly, I'm VERY impressed with the car! I hate .50, but this G8 is pretty effing hot! The wheels need to shrink a little and lose the 'studs' but other than that, it's exceptional. Easily one of the best concepts at SEMA.

In the wake of the popularity of the Lambdas and GM's switch to crossovers in favor of minivans, C&D has this on their front page: "Why buy a crossover -- Five concrete reasons to buy a minivan instead." (Including, SURPRISE, GM's best selling Lambda as the poster child for and a subject of the article) LINK: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/14267...-crossover.html Do I think this is a direct result of the Lambdas and their popularity? Probably not. Do I think it might've weighed into C&D's decision to write the piece AND use GM as the poster boy? Absolutely. Notcie how all of the japanese companies are merely tranferred sales from one model to another. Yet, GM the only american company targeted, is compared to what appears to be the new standard for minivans and is the only company compared to a competitor. Also keep in mind how hot the Lambdas are right now as 2 of them were in the top 10 in demand for September and the fact that the entire article pretty much has zero substance. Yep, there's no bias at all in the media anymore....

It's like George Carlin says: "On election day, I'll be at home doing the same thing you guys do when you punch that ballot. Except, when I'm done, I'll have a little something to show for it." I've been eligable to vote 2 times.. 1st time the guy I voted for won the election, but didn't get office (Thank god!! Yeah, I was young and dumb) Second time I simply didn't vote; for 3 reasons 1) Pure lack of choice -- I hated both candidates. 2) I don't really support what this country has become and would rather isolate myself. 3) I'm just tired and bored to death with hearing the Conservatives damning people to hell and the Liberals CONSTANT, non-stop through the liberal media, b*tching about the conservatives.
