  1. Wow, nice truck!
  2. They have a very small engine compartment. I'm afraid cutting would be involved even in an Ecotec swap. Then you'd have to shore up the structure you cut with custom structure work.
  3. I hope there's not an evil, political pricing agenda on these trucks to discourage Americans from driving what they want by jacking the MSRP up to, say, 5 million doll hairs. I will go OFF.
  4. 3M two-sided tape is gray, it will blend in pretty well with yer paintjob, I think too.
  5. I would take off the molding, repair the rust spots, then cut a piece of soft, weather resistant cushioning material just a 16th of an inch bigger than the molding to put between it and the lid, that will muffle the noise when closing the lid and keep the sharp edge of the molding from digging in to the paint. Two-sided 3M tape would do double duty as a cushion and adhesive.
  6. I've always preferred the maneuverability of a shortbed, regular cab, especially in a fullsize pickup. I'm so happy to see the next version under camo, coming for 2014. That GMC's stance is one thing I did not care for on my Sierra, that is why I got 2" lowering shackles for the rear springs like 5 minutes after I bought it. I think it is a GM rule that the rear bumper must sit 2" higher than the front bumper, seriously. Why I do not know. Once leveled, my '07 Sierra took on a much nicer stance, and the wider than stock Goodyear Fortera tires set off the 17" factory aluminum rims. I had two accidents in that truck, both on the left front corner, and there were some noticeable misalignments in front end parts after the second accident that greatly disappointed me. I traded it for a 2009 Cobalt.
  7. The regular cab shortbed LIVES!!!

Fabulous news, man! I gotta see pics!
  9. EXCELLENT NEWS! i HOPE IT SPREADS AND GROWS LEAPS AND BOUNDS!
  10. snore
  11. Mother may I have another... threadful of wicked car spots? I promise I'll be a good boy. Post 'em here!
  12. That taillight design is so similar, it makes me think the Chevy and Ford wagon bodies were contracted out to the same company... And on Balthy's '59 wagon photo, do Eye Spy a period Pep Boys accessory... a fake exhaust hole low on the quarter panel?

Did somebody get themselves a Corvette?
  14. I guess I'm gettin' old, but the prospect of runnin' chrome bumpers and 17" wheels v. body-color and expensive 20s was why I optioned out the Tradesman v. the Express. But I love yer pop's new truck, don't get me wrong.
  15. YES bored. Pricing out fullsize, 2WD, shortbed, regular cab base model trucks that are optioned out as nicely and evenly as I could. Big V8s, posi-traction rears, power windows/locks/mirrors and chrome bumper packages across the board. Edmunds' "True Market Value" pricing (typical dealer discount plus rebate) comes out like this: Ram Tradesman: $21,872 in True Blue with stone cloth bench Silverado W/T LS: $23,900 in resurrected Imperial Blue with gray vinyl bench Sierra W/T Plus: $24,042, same colour scheme as Silvy F150 XL Plus: $25,101 in Green Gem with gray cloth bench imo... good grief, the Ram is a screaming deal! Plus, the Tradesman has the RamBox side compartments and a spray-in bedliner. Hemi, six-seed automatic, the smooth ride of all-coil suspension... how can a truck guy go wrong? The Ford is not worth $4k more than the Dodge... is it? GM's new trucks are out next year, and the '13 Ram has an optional 8-speed auto (with a weird shifter dial instead of a traditional lever, I'm scared), and a potentially problematic air suspension (hopefully an option as well). Dodge's new smaller pickup truck is still a mystery, and GM is dragging their butt getting the new Colorado/Canyon to the US. Ford is not giving a hint they'll re-enter the compact truck market. Is now a good time for a truck guy to buy... or should he wait and see what's coming 'round the bend? EDIT: hmmm... I'm going to need confirmation from a reputable source that this Tradesman has the Hemi and not the 4.7. The Dodge site does not cooperate with me on that. When I click on the Hemi button to ADD the Hemi, it says I cannot "remove" it without changing the GVWR rating. ODD.
  16. No harm. I think a lot of enthusiasts have projects in their minds all the time.
  17. Thread title made me immediately think of Drew's Kapitan photos in the Car Spotter's thread. I'm somewhat relieved, but still a bit concerned. I mean, I don't think you're pudgy like the hapless, hopeful guy in the commercial (cracks me up when the dude at the end says OPIL), but you did tell us you're like 6'7" or something. HOW IS YOUR TALL ASS GONNA FIT IN DERE?
  18. Yeah, the GM Heritage website says it is from 1977. It's got an arrowhead on the front end, and it was based on a GP chassis.
  19. Shoot, I always thought the Phantom was earlier than '77, like '71 or '72. I will guess '72 Pontiac Phantom.
  20. What a load of horse$h!. I want nothing to do with autonomous cars. This will lead to the end of personal transportation.
  21. Red first-gen Econoline van, white bumpers and all, restored and tooling around town. A treat.
  22. Sounds like a knob noob.
  23. I never thought I'd see Jummy johnson and Michael Stipe mentioned in the same sentence, even on C&G. Very clever, hyper!
  24. nice one
