Bleh, with a menu like that it's a wonder all Germans aren't like 400 pounds. :AH-HA_wink:
  4. Whaaaat? An Alpha Pontiac with the 1.4L turbo Ecotec and six speed manual as base powertrain could be very interesting, imo.
  5. I don't look at the Solstice or G6 as "rebadges" of other brands' vehicles. Each has its own exterior sheetmetal and interior, with platforms only shared with other brands. GM could give Pontiac the Alpha platform in coupe, convertible, sedan and sportwagon bodystyles, with their own sheetmetal and interior, and I'd be happy. Cadillac and Chevrolet versions of the platform here in NA would not be "rebadges" of Pontiac's cars. If the G8 turns out to be a short-lived product due to governmental overstepping, I'd be happy to see Pontiac with an entry-level Mini fighter, Kappa roadster and hatchback, and an Alpha family. The brand could be sustained profitably as part of BPG, aimed at the youth market. All Pontiac needs is a commitment from the parent corporation to make it happen. Oh yeah, my simple mind knows what Vauxhall is, too, but I am not around Opels on a daily basis (except maybe now for the Astra). I have no history with Opel. All I know is what I read, that's not the same as being around the product daily.

Uh, for $100, when you say "some" saki, do you mean like a half barrel? That's outrageous! I do like sushi. I eat it with my fingers while continually wetting my fingers on a lemon wedge to keep the rice from sticking to them. I don't put my wasabi in my soy sauce, I just smear off a spot with my fork and take it straight, yum. Oh, and I love the ginger slices, too. One time I got some wasabi that was kind of a darker green than usual and seemingly dry, it was gross. Like a baby's turd.
  7. ehaase, ha, but he hasn't lived here in the USA where the brand is based. How could he be expected to have an informed opinion on Pontiac when he cannot buy one, nor has he been around them? How can I have an informed opinion on Vauxhall, for example, when all I get to do is look at them in pictures?
  8. Drew that was a cool YouTube vid!
  9. In siegen's comparison photo between Accord coupe and G6... picture that G6 GT coupe with the chrome package (wider chrome surrounds for the upper grilles, which are also deeper-set, and chrome lower grilles) and the optional 18 inch machined-face rims... instantly it comes alive. Optioned that way, the G6 GT coupe is a very good looking car, sleek and sporty without looking like a pokemon character. The last-gen Accord coupe was a featureless blimp, this gen is too far in the opposite direction, with WAY too many discordant angles banging together. The G6 is simple and clean, while also being dynamic.
  10. You don't have to listen to me ZL-1, I'm just bitching because certain things appear to be happening that I am not happy with at GM. Pontiac, being an NA-only brand, should have its fate decided by North Americans, that's all I'm saying.
  11. I think people who do not even live in North America should be excluded from having an opinion in this thread.
  12. Hey bobo, did it leave you shaken or stirred?

  14. Finished watching the last DVD of The Wire's first season last night. 13 riveting episodes. Now I am hooked.
  15. The Ecotec engine has so much power potential, while remaining fuel efficient. Have we seen everything from the Ecotec engine family? I think not. The Alpha project promises to be such a fun platform, it is purely made for Pontiac at the lower price points, and it could be a Cadillac at the higher. Hopefully, Volt will not be smoke and mirrors, and lives up to its production targets. Gamma and Delta II can house small-displacement gas and diesel engines to get us well over the 35 mpg standard. Give Buick and Chevrolet a Delta II, and Chevrolet an attractive Gamma family of 3-and 5-door hatches to sell... but give Pontiac the Alpha platform... oh my God, it is so right for Pontiac.
  16. Send out the clones. Replace them with real Pontiacs. The Solstice right now is the purest Pontiac model, with the G6 a close second (good or bad, it has completely unique sheetmetal and interior, making it pure Pontiac). The G8 can stay, but only because there is no Holden sold here to compare it to in terms of looks. The GP is lost, so it doesn't count. The G5 should have been designed back in the day, alongside the Cobalt with its own look, a la Cavalier/Sunfire, but it wasn't. As it is, the G5 reminds me of a Canadian Special Clone (I can't hold Canada in contempt for this, they've been getting thinly disguised Chevys as Pontiacs for decades). The Torrent looks nicer than the Equi, imo, but it too must go, as it is a clone. I want Pontiac to live for a long time, and be healthy. It has been a part of my life since I could drive, as my first car was a Pontiac, a gift from my grandfather. I sincerely believe Pontiac, as a brand, still has potential to shine, even in these CAFE-tainted times. For a contingent within GM to actively pursue the killing of Pontiac is pure corporate assassination, not only to the Pontiac brand, but eventually to GMNA itself, by association.

A lot of big soup bowls, yes, but also a lot of stir-fry with noodle (singular "noodle", a quaint misuse of English on so many Asian menus). I also enjoy the spring rolls, with their delicate, opaque wrapping, different from spring rolls at Chinese places. They had Hoisin (sp?) sauce, that red-with-green cap HOT sauce, soy sauce, and a small cup of red pepper sauce with a spoon on every table. The spring rolls come with a peanut sauce with slivers of carrots and some white vegetable stirred in.

Yeah the kid recommended the pho last time I was there. So, you think if I have it once I'll want mo pho? They describe some of the soups as containing tendons, some without. Some with well-done beef, some with a mix of rare and well-done. Although today was less of a success than last week, maybe I will go back next week and try something else.
  19. '74 or '75 Century sedan in Harvest Gold (to match your 70's refrigerator) with saddle vinyl bench interior... in perfect condition, being driven by a little gray-haired lady. Seriously, somebody should do a photo book on perfectly-preserved old cars owned by little old ladies. I think the oldest such daily driver I remember was a little lady in Maryland with like a '52 Chevy, a black 2 door sedan, seemingly untouched by time except for pitting in the chrome plating. This phenomenon is amazing to me.

    Ethnic Food

I had lunch today at a local Vietnamese place, it was my second visit ever, and my only exposure to Vietnamese food. They have, imo, very odd tastes in flavor mixing. They use mint in a lot of stuff, and peanut. Today I had crab and shrimp in a soup that really tasted weird, and *gag*, I tried a beverage called "pickled lime drink"... it was nasty. Tasted a bit like rotten limes that have lost their flavor. The only lime taste was as an aftertaste, and it was weak. I guess it's my problem, however, because the place had a healthy crowd of Vietnamese customers... a good sign for an ethnic restaurant, imo. Last week my meal there was better, so if I go back, I will have to be careful what I order. I tend to go on "kicks", where I will obsess on something for a while, then grow tired and move on. Anyone else have an ethnic food "kick" going on?

    Building a 128i

Well of course you can feel the difference between FWD and RWD through the steering. The Mustang is out there and it is truly authentic, but doesn't feel right with the V6. A V8 Mustang will eat too much gas and be too expensive for my criteria. The Mini, GTI and C30 are all well and good and I like them, but this thread is extolling the virtues of an upright, RWD 4 seat coupe with sporting credentials... something I hope to see from GM on the Alpha platform with a Pontiac nameplate... but indications so far are that the Alpha cars will go to Cadillac and Chevrolet, the latter in sedan form only (why on earth... who knows?)
