Not sure what you are saying here. If you have an old Brit roadster your hardtop is your hardtop, it means just what it says. Leave it home and all you have is your rag top - your soft top. I just dont think you can go there in the convertable world. What else would you like them to call it ? Im not sure what term was used for the 55-57 Thunderbirds, or the Corvettes that have them, Mercedes SL had them. The factory steel hardtop for my 64 Alpine had hinged quarterwindows that opened out from the rear. THe B pillor was little more than an aluminum hinge for the window and enough support for it, seems like it was a little 1/2x1/2 angled sheet metal the window assembly screwed into. Oh yea, it was a factory hotrod too B)

Buick sold this as a Coupe, compared to the four door sedan it might be a legitimate coupe ? Inside passenger compartment is same size - large - if I remember right there just a bit less headroom in rear, all else the same, well windshield is different part number and some say windshild is more raked. I should get outside and measure, ey? What do you think ? Rear windows are fixed incase you dont know. Sorry for the cheap photo of sedan. I know its stupid but Ive always wondered and have a personal interest in these cars. So what do ya say , is it a coupe or not ?

Once again WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ? This is my world ? What ? In fact whose world ? Jeeze What ? What ? So can I and have I, are you loosing information here or what ? I have a problem with the suggestion that anyone can survive in this country at 10-12 dollars an hour, if you have a problem with me knowing that you better keep it inside and not try to turn some kind of spin on me because Ive got enough stature to stand up and say bullshit. Long ways between 400 dollars a week gross and that hundred grand 30% your spinnin.

OK I see it on this example but Im still having a real hard time understanding between Coupe and 2dr Hardtop ? Could you give older comparitive examples ? or is it simply whether they have one or two side windows per side ?

She-it look at the brawl I missed. Flybri - Silv also posted a STS, LaCrosse and a few others I didnt like brought into the scenario of the 90's-current. Balthazar qued up well on that one so I dont need to check the grounds for any survivors. Although theres a few Ferra... ah never mind ! For anyone that thinks styling expression of today can compare to the post WWII era through to the square box era 77/78/79 you are narrow minded. You can win the tecnical arguements, or the handling arguements, or the gidget/gadget arguement but as for the styling and expression/character give it up. There is so little going on in sheet metal since 77/78/79 most is not even noteworthy. Handsome ? perhaps! good looking ? perhaps! Sexy ? perhaps! Creative ? not!Origional ? Not ! Artistic ? Not ! Crocs an ass, far harder to like than Sylv but every once in awhile it seems like he might be human, just long enough to drop ones guard  yea yea yea I know Im the biggest ass here but thats a givin, if ya want the address to the Steve edGe haters club PM me. Just let me warn you theres a long list waiting for admittence. Also excellent spelling is a must, so no mistakes on the application palease. However I could see the SSR as a 2 seat pillorless retractable hardtop but its a friggin truck that you would have to kick yourself in the butt for if you used it like a truck. It was a waste of GM funds. It was another example of Chevy getting a little .... rub. For all the obvious reasons BOF isnt comming back, its not really necessary, monocoque (sp) is all we need. Well engineered cars would be structurally more sound for rollover and many other impact directions as well. So why waste time, weight and money on a ladder frame when other forms of rigidity are more important ? An excellent American (history) hardtop would need to be a well designed monocoque anyhow to provide excellent protection. American hartops should have been returned after the learning curve of the 80's but they were not. Perhaps Roger Smith was to busy destroying Flint to make worthwhile decisions.........ah never mind.

Yep, but just because you can doesnt make it a skill, you gotta go to col-ledge for skills.

Im surprised they never put together a OSV Aurora. Would have been a very sharp car with lower air dam, suspension drop maybe a SC 4 litre just to keep it Oldsmobile.

Fly I think the point was all the interesting varibles. Where as today there just insnt all that much different or inspiring. Of course thru 60 was not my era either but why bore people with photos of the best looking cars ever made :P Whats really funny is 6T8 posted random photos of all the varibles of your basic family cars of the era and their modern counterparts. Then croc counters by throwing up the cream of the crop, some of which are throwbacks to the 50's & 60's, and many are just not noteworthy and will disappear into Chinese smelt pots. The recent SSR is a joke just like the Prowler. That money should have gone to Buick or fatter wallet liners for the underpaid execs.

well done, what do ya know an American with some of that old fighten spirit. Direct and to the point without all the hidden agendas and mysterious alternative economys.

GTO battling it out against Porsche and others. Pontiac powered DP cars running Lexus, BMW and Porsche. Real racing !

I agree with most of your post, this is interesting " A one price system would be nice, but the disclaimer "dealer may sell for less," as mandated federal or state laws creates a dog-eat-dog atmosphere that nobody benefits from. Just my opinion." One of the benefits of capitolism  , some organization in all fields would always be a good thing. It has been a comfort to know our own paid public servants have been looking out for our well being and prosperity. The little time I recently spent at this areas largest {Oldsmobile}, Cadillac, Pontiac dealership gave me a bad taste as well as being convinced they are all totally incompetant. Be it sales, service or the managers. Some real shady stuff going on there.

Something many are failing to recognize or accept is that the few of us here that are throwing opposition to all the blue collar hatred and Union hatred is we have not said the UAW are underpaid or dont have it good. We have been saying there are other important problems and neglects that led to this situation. You all just want to go stomping on the ants because the government let the hornets loose in the barn. Myself Id like to see the entire economy turned upside down, maybe some of these once wealthy greedy bastards would start jumping out of windows. It would be a start anyhow. [cant wait for the responces to this one] In all seriousness, except for the interpretation of greed this post by greg nate seems to be one of the few that tried to recognize responsibility on all fronts.

So whats your "macro" ? sounds like such a "big" word. Ill try not to let it intimidate me. Is it something to do with "free trade" with 3rd world countrys that operate in early 1900 conditions in America ?

CTS sounds deadly !

excellent post 6T8.........but .......uh...........Ive got to think about it for awhile......uh.....all those old cars look different..........not like my favorite car.........I want all cars to look like my favorite car..........they all suck if there not just like my favorite car....... :P http://www.cheersandgears.com/public/style_emoticons//AH-HA_wink.gif

The Chevy had potential, the nose was the problem, that and its a Chevy, we dont need more Chevys A little top edge on the rear quarters would be a nice touch Were not living in the 50's and 60's, were just not sold on modern styling as being "all that". The Ford looks unfinished as did the Thunderbird The Dodge looks remarkably in line with the Mr. Roboto that the CTS is. Ah, Im going to get in my time machine and go back to 1967 when there were new fresh ideas. Sorry for you youngsters that those Old boys burned through the frontier so fast. Keep dabblin, we've seen it before and we've seen it done better. :P :)
