  1. Meh, modern cars are just as prone to nagging problems as the old ones.
  2. Great characters in From a Buick 8.
  3. It has it's inconsistencies (years ago I actually re-wrote my own version 'fixing' details & events to my satisfaction), but the concept and a bunch of the early imagery is straight up my alley. It helped that I picked the book up from a friend with absolutely no idea of the storyline. King gets fairly predictable after a half dozen books, but I am still willing to suspend reality with him for a tale. Don't get me wrong, I think the guy is one hell of a craftsman. I just like some of his stuff better than the others.
  4. Spooky stuff. It sure impressed me - I can still clearly see the woodgrain and paint sort of retreating from the hot cabin of the car as it burned... A real WTF moment.
  5. Wow! That invoked a memory for me. When I was about 11 or 12 (on a family trip to Maine of all places), we came upon a Ford Country Squire wagon fully engulfed in flames along the side of the highway, flashers still going as flames roared inside the car and black smoke roiled behind the windows. The really odd part was that there wasn't a soul in sight. No cops, no family huddled together along the road, no other cars on the highway, no one at all. Maybe I should read the story...
  6. Knowing how to do winter in a RWD car is a valuable skill...
  7. Didn't work out so well, I still have a fuel-delivery problem with the car. Either carb or fuel pump - not sure which yet. Car came home via tow-strap. Made me grumpy.
  8. I've been re-reading alot of King lately, but Christine isn't one of his better efforts - so I don't know that I'll be getting back to that one. Still, I love how he interweaves cars into his stories.
  9. Today could be test drive day - if the weather holds.
  10. Agreed, Agreed, Agreed! Love those Daytona coupes, and this thread makes me miss my GTO - badly.
  11. I like the sound of that!
  12. I've always been partial to solid colors, myself. But I still intend to do this: And painted SS stripes defy my dislike of stripes in general: The white roof thing also works:
  13. The Biturbo is long gone, 68.
  14. Depends on who you call the "bad guy". It's been a long time, but I do remember there being other cars in the book... But yeah, '58 Fury in the title role.
  15. Auto. - too bad, but most were. Still worth more than the asking price if clean.
  16. Sweet-looking '70. Could be the real thing, but likely not very original once you check the details - decent price in any case. 4spd., or auto?
  17. I thought it would be a F/S issue with you... While I like the F/S versions, I think the concept was right where it belonged on the midsize base from '64 onward. The Falcon Rancheros are another story. While they have a real cool factor, they had very little utility. Ford was smart to move the Ranchero back up to midsize in '65/'66.
  18. Glad to see this. I have to beg to differ about the market for these though, Balthy. The platform shifted from FS cars, true, but the Ranchero continued through 1979, and the El Camino through 1987.
  19. Yup. I'd love to own it.
  20. This bears yet another quoting.
  21. Add a red squirrel to the tally...
  22. That's sportiness with an "i", I believe...
  23. Maybe it would be helpful to sit down with your son and analyze exactly how the wreck happened so that he understands the mechanics of the event and can take that knowlege as something learned. If he can see it as a tool that makes him more ready for a similar circumstance, maybe the negative can become a positive. But above all, he needs to get back on that horse.
