  1. DF, none but the Durango are really new (maybe the Charger). Also, when I say "truck" I include SUVs - I am not griping about SUVs. As for the rest, the four doors don't count for me which leaves me with a tiny list of cars I like but don't consider "must have". Only the Challenger even tempts me as a new car, and the rest I would only consider as used cars. The real gripe for me is that it would seem that the future holds nothing short of extinction for the sort of car I love - and that's downright depressing. When you get right down to it, each of the Big3 have exactly one quasi-affordable RWD 2-door. That's not what I'd call a wide range of choice.
  2. Those last two posts are great for illustrating just how different my tack on new cars is. I get where both of you guys are coming from with your desires for your next new car, mine just come from a very different place.
  3. Oh boy! I stay away for one evening, and look what happens!
  4. That may well be, but it doesn't follow the rules of this contest. Still, the mention of the S-10 is interesting...
  5. Hey Walt! Glad to see you here, and congrats on the purchase. I have an off-topic question for you: Do you still have that Graphic of the Skunkworks garage? If so, I'd like to have a chance to copy it. I hope your GMC treats you well, all the best to you and yours.
  6. It takes quite a bit more for me to say "wow". I sort of envy you folks that can get excited by FWD cars - for me they are about as thrilling as watching paint dry.
  7. My pleasure! I'll use any excuse to post a pic of the Avant, it is simply a beautiful design. I'd call it timeless.
  8. Can't remember my exact member number from back then - something in the teens, I think.
  9. I have a question about that removable top, Z. Can you describe its construction?
  10. The judging won't start until the deadline.
  11. I have to see something like this to become interested in Buick again.
  12. I wholeheartedy endorse that second paragraph, Roger. And I hope what you say in the third is what happens. But as of today, I'm not seeing it.
  13. One last minute bit of advice to consider: The parameters laid-out in the rules are pretty simple, but they are not restrictive in lots of ways. For instance, all of the following are true - the size of the truck isn't specified - no restriction is made on the source vehicles (any brand could serve as inspiration) - Beyond being longitudinal, the engine can be whatever you wish. - No specific generation of the Blazer is a hard and fast template for design. - Current GM styling is not a requirement - The traditional ties to the Suburban and pickup are not required. And that is as close as I will get to giving you hints about the concept in my head.
  14. The stuff from the 80s and 90s isn't all that bad to work with, although I admit that the trend is certainly in that direction. Even so, the cars from the last 20 years I would want to mess with tend to have excellent support in the aftermarket and can be made into real monsters. Laptop tuning shows amazing results, for example. I'll grant that the complexity is a factor, and the tools are different, but it is still a doable thing. I could be pretty happy with another modern GTO. The issue for me is that the pool of worthy cars is fast drying-up, with few new ones being added.
  15. I'm entirely guilty of the same thing, I have a huge range of interests and have projects related to most of them at all times.
  16. Not sure what your trying to say here, Reg. In Australia, a RWD car is the best seller. It also happens to be the product of Australia's only home-grown brand, a key export, and central to the culture. Not so easy to euthanize something like that.
  17. Beats talking about NAIAS.
  18. That situation is just plain torture.
  19. Trucks have been my "natural habitat" for decades (4wd only for the most part). So I can live with one as a daily if I have to. But I really miss having a nice new car that I really love to climb into when the work day is done. And that's just it, I have to love a new car to buy it. Liking it isn't enough, and tolerating it is out of the question.
  20. Sorry if I'm boring you there Fappy, but it's not looking too good for any new stuff I might like - so I'm just seeking an alternative. I'd rather be wrong about that, it would be nice to say "wow" about new product again.
  21. Let's just say that I doubt that that one followed the recipe. See NOS' entry to get what I'm saying.
  22. Those numbers are hard to ignore, Balthy. I think that may be the sort of thing I will do from now on. The range of years might be a bit wider for me though. I won't rule out some recent iron.
  23. Glad you agree, DF. I was starting to wonder if my eyes needed calibration.
  24. Touching can be dangerous... sometimes it's hard to stop.
