  1. Announcement/news conference tomorrow morning from 9 to 10 AM.
  2. All of my adult life they have been cancelling/not following through on anything I'd want. I bought the last year of El Camino while I still could. I bought the last year of Firebird while I still could. I managed to get a GTO before it was killed. Those were little victories for me in a sea of disappointment with GM. There is just nothing left for me to buy from GM now.
  3. We'll know about tomorrow soon enough. Beyond that, who knows?
  4. Some of the "baggage" I was talking about...
  5. Oh I give a crap now, but by 2025 I doubt that I will. The point being, I've been cheated out of the good stuff for a long time now - and it looks like I'll be too old to notice when/if it ever comes back.
  6. Speaking only for myself, I would rather not see either of us so attired.
  7. Everything is political in one sense or another.
  8. For what it's worth, two people in the industry with reason to know say that Pontiac will not be killed tomorrow. No, I'm not going to tell you who they are as I know them both. And no, I'm not taking their word as gospel (not these days), but it tempers my expectations a bit. As I said, for what it's worth.
  9. The members of the auto task force have said as much... As for bankruptcy, that or sufficient government loans at the outset would have been infinitely better than month after month of limbo. I'd wager that GM's chances have dimished by at least 50% in that time. Decisive action was called for last fall - we are far past the point of losing the effectiveness that could have had.
  10. Those aren't the costs I was referring to.
  11. The scary thing isn't the administration's motives so much as their complete lack of understanding of the auto business. Something that sadly, they share with the previous administration. Government has a long-standing negative impact on the industry.
  12. The thing is, the "savings" from killing Pontiac vs. keeping it as a niche brand are nil. And the costs will prove to be high.
  13. Which is too late for me to give a crap.
  14. That's the price of government involvement. However wrongheaded it may be.
  15. OK, I'll cop to grumpy. Can you blame me? But yes, you get my meaning quite clearly.
  16. OK, Echo buyers are stupid. :AH-HA_wink:
  17. Perspective: Aveo buyers are just as stupid.
  18. Huge difference between 2 years and 10 years... Even more importantly, I don't see sales ever recovering to pre-recession levels. For better or for worse (that's a whole new debate), we are moving away from private car ownership in this society. The times we live in are the genesis of major systemic change, much of which I suspect most of us will dislike.
  19. In case you haven't noticed, that trend is reversing itself as we speak.
  20. Right. And as it's been throughout history the masses are comparitively stupid, thus proving my point. That's how we define intellect, by percentile.
  21. So make Buick China only, or a NA niche brand - anything else is a fool's errand. Daewoo is far more critical globally (assuming GM can hold onto any of its global brands). It also doesn't have the baggage that Opel does. GM really doesn't need Opel, they are quite capable of designing and building cars with no help from Opel.
  22. Could you tolerate a Corolla for five years? And resale is sliding for Toyota these days... Worth that gamble to you? Resale aside, you can get better for your money.
  23. That happened a long while ago, I'm afraid.
