    Locally 85% plus are GT/GXP here according to the sales rep I spoke with. They aren't looking for V6 cars.

    Recently I've been taking notice of the extreme ugliness of the Lexus RX. What a hideous design! It looks like it has a fat lip.

    Had a good long conversation with a sales rep there while ogling a white G8 GXP. They have had 4 and already sold 3. They are actively attempting to get more GXPs and GTs, and trying to trade away the G3s and G5s they reluctantly took as stock. The rep reported that most G8 sales are V8s and that most buyers were coming out of Euro brands. Just some food for thought. They have a Solstice Targa inbound.

    If that is how it turns out, then GM is well and truly dead already. Offering the same old, same old, is not a game they can win. In fact, the last 20 years are a great example of how that strategy has consistently failed.

    Reg, my age comment was in reference to the perception of Pontiac as a brand. DF: Only sees the rebadges and thinks of the good stuff as a minor aspect of the brand. GMTG: Accepted the mid-range FWDs as part of Pontiac's heritage and still sees brand value in them ME: I only see the good stuff and dismiss the rest as mistakes completely irrelevant to the brand's identity. That's why we see it differently. Thus my age comment.

    It will be a V8 forever, the car is already a showcase for fuel economy. If they can't build it as a V8, they will kill it They will have no choice. Anything less would make them the laughingstock of the industry. As long as GM builds trucks there will be V8s, and as long as there are V8s, one will live between the Vette's fenders. The only thing that will kill the Corvette would be a lack of sales, even the overgreeen idiots don't have the nuts to take the V8 from Corvette.

    But it has to be a V8 to be a Corvette. Corvette is not simply a Halo for Chevy, It is a Corporate halo and American Icon. It will never be powered by anything less than a V8. The only way you will see a Corvette powered otherwise will be when the internal combustion engine itself goes out of production. Until that day, Corvette is V8. BTW: The Corvette is not "too heavy" whatsoever.

    Some details Satty left out concerning the Blue Flame six: - When Corvette debuted, Chevy didn't have a v8 - The early six bangers were a sales flop, and Corvette was nearly cancelled. - The V8 saved the car from extinction.

    Satty will have fun with this one, but I think those buyers are all looking for a killer deal on their last new Pontiac right now. And, they will only return to said dealerships for service. If I had money to burn, I'd try to get my hands on a Solstice Targa - just because.

    I'll add this to my answer as well: Buick shouldn't even attempt to pick-up Pontiac's business. It would not only run counter to the brand identity GM has chosen for Buick, but it would also fail miserably. The end result would be even more damage to Buick as a brand.

    The short answer is absolutely nothing. Any real damage control would have to take place at Chevrolet - with marginal effectiveness.
