  1. Every state is different, but I would advise you to have the seller's signature on the title notarized. An auto tag place can do this and may be able to give you the transit documents as well. I'd do some phone work and get as much set up ahead of time in Virginia as possible. Loooking forward to the pics and story. And to seeing the car in person at Carlisle!
  2. For most folks A body = '64-77 and G body '78-88 However, officially per GM it is actually '64-81= A body and '82-88 G body.
  3. I dug back in tonight and removed the following: -The master cylinder and brake booster -The transmission linkage -All of the front brake lines and the distibution block - the driver's side caliper I also put the car up on jackstand in the rear and removed the rear wheels to get to the bleeder valves on the wheel cylinders. I drained as much of the brake fluid as I could before removing most of the hydraulic system. During the process, I snapped one of the bleeder valves off of a caliper. Hopefully, I will be able to get the remains out so I don't have to replace the caliper. The brake line that runs from the distribution block to the rear of the car wouldn't budge from the distribution block so I got out the bolt cutters and lopped it off. I still haven't managed to get that fitting out but everything else unscrewed with a bit of effort. In the following pics you can see the connection from the hard lines to the flexible lines that got me started on the brake system. It was exceptionally bad at that spot. The rest of the lines were passable or better, but all will be replaced with new stainless lines. The shot of the front supension shows the so-so condition of the ball joints etc. After some soul searching, I have decided to replace the upper and lower ball joints, upper and lower control arm bushings, outer tie rod ends, and the sway bar mounts and bushings. The shocks will also be getting tossed, and I may replace the springs while I'm at it. Mission-creep strikes again! Thumbs:
  4. I am in striking distance...
  5. Quite possibly your best post ever,BV
  6. I can tell this, even in '77 when my two current projects were built there was a huge amount of variation among the A bodies. Even cars built on the same platform and by the same division have many unique parts. You discover this when you take one apart and go hunting for parts to restore it with.
  7. Sweet! Really, really, nice find. That car is in amazingly good condition, and the colors are perfect! Well Done!
  8. ABSOLUTELY! People look at me like I'm nuts when I say that the way to deal with global warming is to plant trees. Europe and eastern North America were once just giant forests until Humans cut them down.
  9. Another A body car! Seeya there.
  10. The garage was out of control so I did a little cleanup and then attacked the firewall of the wagon.
  11. Thanks Tree man, see ya there.
  12. Hey! Aren't you the one planning to wear a kilt in the near future?
  13. The goals aren't the problem, its the methods that I take issue with. I am huge proponent of alternative fuels and reduced emissions, but these regulations aren't the way to get there. Also they ignore the major sources of the problem which are not automotive in nature. Time to get real about it all.
  14. Hope to see you there,Hudson. Sorry you can't make it, Detroit.
  15. Here is one of the pics I submitted to the auction folks:
  16. Here are the "before" pics I took before starting the engine compartment/front suspension cleanup. I hope to make major progress over the weekend and get lots of pics, so I thought I'd post these now.
  17. Choice is something I'm not willing to sacrifice.
  18. Posted by Fbodfather elsewhere: For those of you who are qualified.....here's a great opportunity ..make sure you register......... By Terry Kosdrosky April 12, 2007 DETROIT -- General Motors Corp., looking to ramp up its expertise in emerging technology amid mounting pressure to boost fuel economy, will use a job fair to try and fill 400 new engineering and technical positions. While the auto maker has been shedding tens of thousands of jobs via buyouts and early retirements, there are growth areas the company has been beefing up, spokeswoman Brenda Rios said Thursday. Wanted are engineers to fill positions in powertrain engineering, product development, fuel cells, the OnStar telematics system and information technology. GM wants interested candidates to register for the May 5 career fair, to be held in Metro Detroit, at www.gmcareerfair.com . Qualified candidates will be invited to the job fair. The auto maker hasn't done a "large-scale" career fair in a long time, but wants to take advantage of the Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress conference being held in Detroit next week. "We know there will be a significant number of qualified engineers in the region," she said. Print and broadcast ads will publicize the job openings. GM has added about 1,000 jobs a year over the past few years in those specialized areas, Rios said. But the auto maker sees an opportunity to gather a large number of qualified candidates at one time. The auto maker's move underscores the critical nature of developing new technology such as alternative fuels and power systems as car companies face pressure to improve fuel efficiency and reduce the nation's dependence on oil. GM in recent months has announced that it's developing a plug-in hybrid vehicle and earlier this year introduced the Chevrolet Volt concept car, a sedan that would run primarily on electric power. "We're looking for people with the technical expertise to help us change the way the world drives," GM North America President Troy Clarke said in a statement. He added that GM is "accelerating work in emerging technologies."
  19. Does that Dodge have a Cummins?
  20. To each his own. Choice is a great thing.
  21. That's one of the main reasons that I will never live in California their laws and regs make the state undesirable. As for the rest of it, the powers that be have nearly pushed too hard already and they run the risk of being ignored by the population. to co-opt an old slogan: "You will take my car when you pry my cold, dead hands from the wheel." If these fools go after my old cars, I simply will not comply. That's what they are up against. And I intend to make it as difficult for them as possible.
  22. I've done that with cars I've sold, but never with one someone else just bought. Still...
  23. If you hear a couple of GTOs lighting the tires on your street in the middle of the night, it isn't me and Northie - I swear!
