  1. I guess I need to chime in here again. When I was in the market for a new car in 2004, only two were candidates. A 3series BMW and the GTO. Having driven 3 series as well as 4 different 5 series often (including two examples of the amazing M5), I had come to appreciate BMW in a large way. However, just one test drive in a GTO told me all I needed to know. The GTO offered build quality, interior, and handling that equaled the 3, and outpowered even the M3 at about a 20k discount. It was a no-brainer decision for me. Like Northie, I've had no reason to get to know my Pontiac service department. The car feels as solid and balanced today as the day I got it. My feeling is that BMW has made some missteps since then and this is Pontiac's best chance to make inroads into that market. Bang for the buck is King, and Pontiac is the ideal weapon for GM to use to gain credibility in the RWD market.
  2. I believe I remember discussing how different the "new car small" of the GTO was from other new cars back when I got it.
  3. No matter what you might think of them, the '59 models from Detroit broke major new ground on many fronts - most especially design. My Dad, who was "of the era" despised ALL of the '59s. He thought all of them were pure ugly. I never really understood that because he was a major Studebaker Hawk fan and to me, the other makers seem to have adopted the long, low, finned look of the Hawk in that year. Granted, Studebaker had been doing it since '53, so maybe he felt that the others were cribbing a bit from Studebaker. Today OCN and I were marvelling at the sheetmetal of quite a few '59 and '60 cars at Carlisle, so they certainly have some staying power.
  4. That thing is really creepy in person, hearses don't generally give me the creeps like this one did. The same guy sent another one through the auction (mid-sixties Buick) that also seemed to have an extra dose of the creeps for some reason.
  5. Where have I heard that before?
  6. Reserve not met at 80k.
  7. Just got home. It was great to finally meet Mr. Blu, Man did we do a bunch of walking! My neck is talking to me too. On the way out, I thought I spied a certain black Cutlass. My suspicions were confirmed when I Hope GM Rules Again, yelled over to me. Too bad I didn't get to talk with him or see the Cutlass close up. It looked really nice from about 40' away! Hard to type with 90 pounds of dog trying to get in your lap, so I'll sign off for now.
  8. Welcome to the F-body experience!
  9. Excellent post,Olds Guy. But, I don't ever plan to adjust to FWD. Old or new, I will always drive RWD.
  10. I sent the pics to the seller and it looks like he intends to make good on the hood (I'll still be out the shipping). He said that he needs to get his eyes checked because he didn't notice the rust.
  11. The starter motor sound of an old Chrysler product - can't miss it.
  12. I think you know that isn't my wish.
  13. No worries.

  15. If it had a 502, that would have gotten the crowd going! I knew it was something of a longshot, musclecars are the kings of the auction. Now I'm in need of some sleep before I drive back there for the third day in a row!
  16. Obviously there will be overlap, the G5 and G6 will hang around for a while. But moving agressively toward an all RWD Pontiac is really the right thing to do. As the last of the FWD fade out, AWD could be phased in as an option. But, it would be worse than pointless to keep a Pontiac brand that is all FWD save a model or two. I'd rather see the brand fold.
  17. The musclecar crowd wasn't interested in my Italian exotic. Oh well, guess I'll have to drag the trailer back up to get it tomorrow.
  18. With shipping, about $400.00 in this case. That would have been ok if it was a good NOS hood. It isn't. I have been looking for one for months now and this is the only one to hit Ebay so far. Haven't found one at Carlisle yet either.
  19. This car was a new one on me, It was a '62 Cutlass and damn near perfect with only 20 some thousand miles.
  20. That Laguna was super clean and I think the asking price was under 6k!
  21. I should have another batch tomorrow night.
  22. Thought about you when I took the pic.
  23. Don't worry about it, '58 was probably the year Chevy came closest to being a Caddy.
  24. So, if the export as an El Camino happens I'd guess it would be late 2008. I can handle that.
