CNG, What would it take to convert you and the rest of America?
SAmadei replied to G. David Felt's topic in The Lounge
Perhaps this is the case for dedicated CNG vehicles, but there is no way dual fuel vehicles are not running emissions equipment. A few searches online and you would see that there are special CNG catalytic converters. Apparently, running CNG does not damage gasoline catalytics... and also the gasoline cats are ineffective on CNG exhaust. This article describes a Pentastar V6 being converted to dual fuel and no emissions parts were disturbed... http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/maintenance/should-you-convert-your-car-to-natural-gas A few other interesting things noted in this article... The opinion here is that DIY conversion is going to run afoul of the Clean Air Act and net you $5K a day fines if you drive your modified car. Also noted is that NFPA bans storage of CNG in a home, so filling is going to be slow. The article does not mention if outdoor CNG storage would be legal. -
Industry News: Tesla Sees 20,000 Model Ss Being Sold In 2013
SAmadei replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
NUMMI can't handle 20K a year? Granted, Tesla may still have labor or supply chain issues, but they have a capable factory. -
Please quote a source. I find it really hard to believe that Metallica has moved that much product in the last 14 years... or that even the Beatles catalog sales in the last 14 years is number one. In fact, I'd say Micheal Jackson's Catalog sales have trounced both when he died and nearly every album reentered the charts.

Pets Now wear Seatbelts in New Jersey...
SAmadei replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in The Lounge
What if the dog is in a carrier? My dog rides in a carrier for a reason, he's a PITA while riding in a car. And most of these "pet seat belts" are nothing but a body harness attached to an anchor. Does that mean I can just anchor him down to an eyelet in the cargo area? This law is stupid and somebody needs immediate removal from office. -
The Camaro isn't sleek. Its a tank with a turret top. It is wider, longer and taller than its inspiration, the 1st gen F-body, yet its uncomfortable as hell for me. The 1st gen F-bods were much more comfortable. The upcoming SS? I think the name is stupid and GM lied to us about the Holden Zeta coming here... I don't like the new renderings much... and I remain to be convinced it will be better ergonomically than the G8 was... a car I could drive, but not ride as a passenger in.

I can see sleeker being a good thing. I like the current LX cars, but they are too thick. Compare the new Challenger to the old... the old is sleeker... without being a jelly bean. Some slicker designs that aren't jelly beans and the availability of RWD/V8/bodystyle selection could continue to lure me to the Mopar fold, now that GM's stuff is undesirable to me anymore.

>>"World Magnetic Tour was a 2008/2009/2010 concert tour in support of the group's 9th studio album, Death Magnetic, released in September 2008. It ended up being the most successful by Metallica, grossing roughly $417.2 million..."<< I guess not. Well, yes and no. There are loads of bands that tour on hugely popular tours... AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, etc... who people can argue have not been particularly relevant for decades. I don't fault these guys for collecting the easy money. Guns N Roses keeps grossing big bucks, despite low relevance and that the remaining original 20% of the band is a raging asshole. But I wonder why all the big touring money is recent... well, its the same reason why newer movies keep setting box office records (Avatar currently holds this)... they count dollars and not tickets... because everything keeps getting more expensive... adjusted for inflation, Gone with the Wind blows Avatar out the window. And I feel this effect blows tours out of proportion even more so due to the fact that the fans are older and have the disposable income they didn't have when the bands were in their prime... and because the bands are getting older and the fans realize this might be the last time they may be able to see them live.

Second to the Beatles? Not even close. This list is from Wiki and excludes some MAJOR solo acts... like Elvis, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Elton John, even Phil Collins who seem to have outsold Metallica. 1. Beatles 1 billion claimed 250 million certified 2. Led Zeppelin 300 million claimed 133 million certified 3. Queen 300 million claimed 90 million certified 4. ABBA 300 million claimed 54 million certified 5. Pink Floyd 250 million claimed 110 million certified 6. AC/DC 200 million claimed 99 million certified 7. Rolling Stones 200 million claimed 89 million certified 8. Bee Gees 200 million claimed 63 certified 9. U2 150 claimed 98 million certified 10. Aerosmith 150 million claimed 79 million certified 11. Genesis 150 million claimed 38 million certified 12. Backstreet Boys 130 million claimed 65.7 million certified 13. Bon Jovi 130 million claimed 64 million certified 14. Chicago 122 million claimed 47 million certified 15. Eagles 120 million claimed 126 million certified 16. Dire Straits 120 million claimed 40 million certified and finally... 17. Metallica 100 million claimed 81 million certified

The gov't is crushing this guys cars...
SAmadei replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in The Lounge
Makes me wonder how far the rabbit hole goes here. The article seems to be hung up on the idea that he removed the VIN tags and shipped the car that way, and this is what break the law. Now I know that you can build a car from other cars and get a VIN of your own... in NJ, you demonstrate that you have a bill of sale for all major pieces, a police officer does a basic safety inspection and you get a NJ title if it passes muster. This sounds like what he did. I assume the original VIN tags were never put on the car again... because that, IMHO, would be outright illegal. But lets say he got a Skyline body... and its cut in half and all the metal that touched the original VIN was torched out. He produces a bill of sale for two halves of a car and some sheetmetal to repair the holes and welds together a Skyline body. After adding all the rest of the parts, he gets a title. Is this illegal now? It was still cobbled together from parts. What if large sections of the car were rebuilt... in fact, the entire body is formed by hand and looks just like a Skyline... but with not Skyline parts (except the bolt on ones added later). Is this now a crime? This is happening with aftermarket '69 Camaros, perfectly legal. Seems like the US government just has a vendetta against the Skyline... or anything that even appears to be a Skyline. Seems to me the laws involved are too vague and should be thrown out for that reason. -
I was behind a Hyundai Avante M16 GDI. A what?!? Obviously, its an Elantra, but I'm not sure what the story was as it had NJ plates... I suppose it could have come from Canada. It looked too new (and too OEM) to be someone renaming his Elantra, but I suppose anything can happen.

True, but it would still be like putting perfume on a goat. Well, I also acknowledge that its not very collectible, but is still historically valuable. For every collectible G-bod made in '86, 10 J-bodies were built, yet few exist in decent condition. If they are not saved, history will repeat itself.

I agree with Camino, the part number is likely stamped on the pulley. I usually put the part numbers into GMPartsdirect.com or a couple other websites, which will sometimes give me a substitution of some sort. In the end, most of these kinds of parts are unobtainium from GM... and there are so many similar part numbers that doing automated searches on only your part number is going to miss a lot of suitable parts. You're probably going to find yourself getting a dead pump with a good pulley from eBay or a distant junkyard.

Cheers or Jeers: 10,000 Mile 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger

That's what I always heard. Wiki also cites that the water pump could be laterally offset, so the engine was shorter, as well... and that there was more space for intake and exhaust manifolds with long runners of equal length. -
And apparently this is the only state they work with. I didn't click on EVERY state, but the 15-20 I did, none offer the service. Yet. We'll see.

1969 or 1970... without a better (frontal) angle, I can't narrow it down further.

Rapidly thinning sheet metal causing problems keeping the large front ends square, I would think. -

CNG, What would it take to convert you and the rest of America?
SAmadei replied to G. David Felt's topic in The Lounge
The tanks can be retested? How much does that cost and where can it be done? The cost of expiring/expired tanks is so low that I thought retesting was not available... only replacement. How long did station refilling take, compared to gasoline? -

And I can personally vouch for this on the slant 6 on the CNG genset. Clean as new, 24 years after being put into service. -
Chevrolet News:Return of RWD - Chevrolet Announces SS For 2013
SAmadei replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
Problem is, that on the front side, everyone... GM engineers, bean counters, sales managers, enthusiasts, etc. will agree to this. Unfortunately, in retrospect, many of these groups will still consider it a failure if it does not hit 100K/yr even though everyone agreed ahead of time that that wasn't the goal. All GM niche cars are failures in retrospect, according to some detractor. -

And yet it has swirl marks in the paint. Bummer. -
Is that somehow NOT a chipping away of personal freedom?? It is. I totally support our right to drive a deathtrap or live in a tinderbox, as long as we don't kill others with it. Something needs to be done to reign it in... not create more laws with insurance companies' interests as a priority. Just as it is now considered child abuse to DUI with a child in the car, image a future where showing a child the delight of a ride in a old muscle car can get you an appointment with DYFS.

What about CNG powered limos? Are they exempt? Simple. Police like to blow things out of proportion. Half the they don't know how to properly maintain and operate a radar gun, let alone interpreting the results of a black box data readout. I've been accused on an occasion or two of going outrageously over the limit... when I was not... but I'd rather use my own source of speed information to fight that, such as the guy who used his GPS data to successfully fight a ticket... than give the officer the right to read back the last hour of my driving habits, taken out of context, with the goal of looking for extra things I may have done wrong... such as making multiple stops in a suspect neighborhood... having a drug dog brought in... who finds a tiny bit of contraband that got tracked into the car on somebody's shoe. In the end, you have the right to not testify against yourself. Drug dealers aren't writing logs of their activities for a reason, and I'm not logging my legal activities, either. These groups are protesting completely different things, and the average person is not paying attention to every last liberty being curtailed, as they are trying to make ends meet in an awful economy and keep their house. Again, as a tack on to a bill that HAS to pass, or else budgets will collapse. This is where the line item veto is needed... or a requirement that new bills are prohibited from hiding potentially unpopular tacked on legislation. You have rights... but the police don't respect them and there are literally millions of laws written that you are breaking every day that you've never heard of. Go watch John Stossel's Illegal America. Once you break any one of those laws, your rights are severely limited when you are arrested. Or watch the Youtube videos of people in NH using their right to open carry and getting harassed, threatened and arrested by the police. Its not funny once you realize how quickly your life could be turned upside down by our government.
