  1. A nearby auto repair shop had a yellow '74-76 Dodge Dart 2dr ht in their lot and what looked like a green '73 Century or Regal in one of the stalls (just saw the rear end quickly)..
  2. Uh... the GXP G8 only comes with a 6-speed Manual, the GT G8 comes with a 6-spd automatic. They never made a V8 G8 with a 4-speed. Yup. There was no 4-speed on ANY trim of the G8. I was thinking he might have meant G6 GXP... but I don't think that ever had a 4-speed, either. Oh well, so much for credibility... ;-) Don't buy a Pontiac from his lot... its got a busted transmission. Probably meant GP GXP...the Grand Prix was offered w/ the same V8/ 4spd setup as the Impala SS..
  3. Yes...Chrysler has sufficiently differentiated the Charger and 300, GM *could* do something similar w/ Chevy and Buick were they so motivated.
  4. Funny how times change...in the mid '90s, Chevy, Buick and Cadillac all had RWD V8 flagships, and Hyundai had vile 4cyl FWD generics only...
  5. '00 Jeep, Patriot Blue '87 Mustang, Medium Canyon Red '69 Mustang, Wimbeldon White
  6. Happy Birthday!
  7. That is a subject that has been and will continue to be debated here endlessly...GM has the Zeta platform but seems unwilling to utilize it fully in NA..
  8. I assume once the Lucerne is dropped (is it around for '12?) the LaCrosse will be the flagship....
  9. Probably 5 years since I've watched the original trilogy..I have them in regular DVD format and VHS from the '90s reissues. Saw them in the theater on the original runs as a kid, and the re-releases back in the '90s when I was in grad school..
  10. Hmmm...is it a full time AWD? No on-off switch?
  11. That's a cool old burban. I really like the panel trucks of that generation, made '67-69. Those seem pretty scarce...
  12. Well, more like 24 years (though there have been many changes since the GM10)...maybe they are trying to break the Panther's record (or the Dodge van)..
  13. So this is the MCE for the Impala, and it will last this way another 6 years.. maybe a new car by 2018?
  14. It was "the thing to do" at one time. This exact model was my uncle's hotrod in the sixties, including the missing bumper. Yes, the missing bumper is part of the gasser (drag racing) or street rod asthetic for the '55s..kind of like the primered car in the movie 2 Lane Blacktop or the car in American Graffitti.. Pretty amazing to see one like this in unrestored, unmodified condition these days..
  15. Saw a clean black 1960 Crown Imperial limo this morning in traffic...sweet. Large, finny, chromey. Fantastic.
  16. The Astra isn't really a competitor w/ those, it's two size classes larger..more of a VW Golf, Focus and Mazda3 competitor... The Astra isn't really a competitor w/ those, it's two size classes larger..more of a VW Golf, Focus and Mazda3 competitor...
  17. I wonder if it will work if you drive backwards circles 3 times.. I used to enjoy doing backwards donuts on empty snow covered college parking lots when I was a youf in Ohio..
  18. Wow...I was skeptical that GM would do a 3dr Buick hatch, but this is quite promising...and the CC would be a great addition to the line.
  19. I'm very excited for September to arrive!! Cool...I wonder if the Star Wars Holiday Special will be included in the extras..I don't think it's ever been released...saw it as a kid in 1978.
  20. I think it is for a different reason: GM has stated so many times that Cadillac is supposed to be going after MB and BMW, that people have expected the brand not to go after the Lexus RX instead of the X3 and X5... IMHO, that's what the complaints are about. Cadillac does deserve the credit of SRX sales voume being very interesting. Yes, they aimed for the lowest common denominator (RX) to get sales volume..they got volume, but no luxury credibility when compared w/ the more serious X5, ML, LR2 and RR Sport..
  21. The NV200, by the way, is a minivan smaller than the Quest and has been out in Europe and Asia since 2009.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_NV200 (trivia--it's predecessor in Europe was the Kubistar (cool name) that was based on the Renault Kangoo).
  22. Is this 'LFX' real or just more speculation? (the acronym sounds like a plausable name for a Lexus Cayenne competitor..., LF-X).
  23. Cadillac doesn't make a single taxi cab or garbage truck. Apples and oranges...GM has Chevy for the trucks and taxis...M-B is a full line brand, and has a long history of trucks..(though Daimler has many other truck brands incl. Freightliner).
  24. Exactly..the S-class is a worthy purchase..it's the best overall of its niche--a big, serious solid luxury sedan, w/ proper RWD and V8 (and V12) configurations..quiet, smooth and fast w/ lots of technology, great build quality and materials, clean, understated design.. The XTS will be fine for the DTS intenders and Avis.
  25. They do when it's the Mercedes S-class. Problem is Cadillac needs credibility, which could be gained with a successful flagship, however, the flagship probably won't sell because of their brand image. They are sort of in a lose-lose. The S-class pays the bills by being a Taxi, Rental car fleet, and business airport car fleet whore..... the same way the Towncar does. It pays the bills, and it is a better status symbol than any car BMW, Audi, Jaguar, Lexus or Cadillac has. All those brands wish they had the S-class, it's image, it's history, and it's revenue. as long as I can get mine with a meter and a card swipe. Can't do that in the US...I bet 99% of US S-class buyers are unaware of their use in Germany (considering Americans have so few passport holders).
