  1. Fuel economy has little to do with global warming. My lawnmower is far more fuel miserly than my car (well the Honda at least) but emits far more greenhouse gasses due to its lack of a catalytic converter or other emissions controls. You wouldn't drive a 1.8 diesel, but what about a 2.9 diesel? GM had one in the works right around the time this thread was originally posted that had about 135 more ft-lb of torque than the 5.3 V8 of the day. Diesels can be plenty sporty, they just have to be geared for it.
  2. It's kinda amazing to me that even though these are big American boats, they still have an air of sportiness about them.
  3. 1977 Olds 98 Coupe 1977 Olds 88 Coupe
  4. I need to ask Dominic if he can get any of these.
  5. I was looking at the Jetta, so that may account for some of the different there since the Jetta is now built with added cheapness unlike the Golf. What I don't understand is why a TDI costs that much more to build. I mean GM was able to do it by taking an Olds 350, stopping up the plug holes and adding stronger head bolts Looking at the Chevrolet.co.uk and Chevrolet.de websites, it looks like going from a Cruze Saloon Gas 4-cylinder 5-speed to a Cruze Saloon Diesel 4-cylinder 6-speed is a $2,300 upgrade give or take some currency exchange fluctuations.
  6. Completely unrealistic. DuraMax is $7200 (then you get to add the Allison cost on). Even VW charges $4700 more for the TDI. V6 TD would be every bit of a $5000 option. Incorrect on the VW. When you match all of the other options up, the TDI is about a $2,100 price premium.
  7. The locking thing is completely programmable through the menu system.
  8. I have a connection to a Chevy dealer if "the deal" is what is most important. It's out my way though, so you'd have to use your local dealer for service.
  9. Dodge Caliber dressed up as Ecto 1
  10. The air springs for the Bravada are $86 each.... not terrible. Unless he is consistently putting heavy loads in the back, it is unlikely he'd even notice something was wrong.
  11. As long as they retain their ruggedness....
  12. You know what though... I think people want to like Cadillac and they want Cadillac to be the most aspirational car out there. Everybody and their grandmother has a BMW. Right now, it's the product line that is holding them back. They need their 2011 version of the Eldorado Brougham. what was the price delta for cadi back then and today compared to other makes? lowest and highest. i'm guessing cadi's lowest model was much closer to chevy's lowest model compared to today....even if you take inflation into account. Good question...but remember that back then there were 3 middle brands between Chevy and Cadillac unlike today where there is only 1. The brands were also smaller. Each brand typically had a junior car and a senior car with multiple body styles and engine choices of each.

  15. The only way to travel, is Cadillac style.
  16. Cutest bear attack ever.
  17. It is an evolution of the Cadillac theme that has been going on since 2002 (CTS was early intro). It is at once modern, yet familiar, yet with enough heritage cues to honor Cadillac's past. One can maintain a familiar look while going up or down in attractiveness. Just look at BMW (mostly down)
  18. You got a magic one. No, not really. Similar results are being reported all over.

  20. but that's the market that Cadillac is lacking in and needs to be in to compete well. What is the sedan/coupe split on the 3 series? I seem to see more coupes than sedans. This ATS is not a coupe, yet. Edit: Also, I am not convinced that there is huge marketplace for a sub-CTS car. The 3-series, C-Class, and A4 don't convince you of that? The ATS is already known to be coming in 4 bodystyles - Sedan, Coupe, Convertible, Wagon. although I have my doubts on the wagon.
  21. Yeah... because they can't come up with a successful design language of their own.
  22. "The Volt manages 35mpg city / 40 highway on its 1.4 liter engine, electric motor and whatever energy regeneration through braking it can achieve" That is the EPA rating. In reality, the Volt is doing far far better than that. When the Volt was delivered to me there was no EV range left on the battery. I drove out to the airport and back and got 70mpg. Yes I reset the counter.
