    MLB Playoffs

I told a friend of mine that the Cubs have decided to do it Cardinal-style and wait until the playoffs to choke.
  2. I think its just what happens when you get a bunch of Joe 6-packs together to be mavericks.
  3. Toyota has sold around half a million Priuses in the U.S. They made the hybrid market, so of course everything will be compared to the Prius, and the media will ask why it has taken everyone else so long to catch up. Same thing with Chrysler and minivans. Chrysler got a free pass on minivans for years because they brought the segment into the mainstream, and the public bought them in droves, even though they sucked. Its only been recently (last few years) that Honda has earned credibility in the minivan world. The Sienna and Quest are also-rans, the Kia/Hyundai vans dont register with consumers (I saw an ad for $5,000 off a Sedona) and the domestic makers are abandoning the segment.
  4. Technically, the thread is "Sarah Palin...what do you guys think about her?" and all of the above fit under that umbrella.
  5. And there is a difference between someone interrupting a discussion on the difference between tax plans and economic beliefs with "Nobama" and "Thinking people vote for McCain" and discussing Sarah Palin's candidacy (and prior "experience" in a thread entitled "Sarah Palin." Given the opportunity, I would vote for Tina Fey's impression of Sarah Palin, because she is absolutely hilarious.
  6. Thats what happens when your VP candidate is a parody of a real politician. I'm watching the debate again, and again, she is failing to impress, and I'm picking up more of the subtle nuance that makes her nonsensical blather something special.
  7. I turn on speakerphone so I can text one person while talking to another person.
  8. FOG, the Volt wont be available for over a year and isn't likely to be priced within $10,000 of the Prius.
  9. I like the idea of making it new and bright and shiny, so a new generation can use it so much it fades again. And here is my other project, the 'rents brought it over this morning. All it needs is a new seat, otherwise its in fantastic shape. A few paint chips and the bed in the trailer has some surface rust, but I'm just going to get a new seat and leave it as-is. And here is the same tractor on eBay. It has a plastic seat, like mine used to. The replacement one I've ordered is aluminium.
  10. Ford does, they've just let it rot away.
  11. Given market conditions (and the fact that the Tundra has been quite the flop) Toyota would be wise to position the Tacoma as its biggest truck and replace to Tundra with a smaller, compact pickup. It couldn't sell much worse.

    MLB Playoffs

I'm starting to effin hate Joe Torre and Manny Ramirez. Although the Cubs not being able to pitch or hit doesn't help.
  13. A quick glance at eBay reveals a number of 20+ year old Toyotas that are, indeed, in one piece.
  14. Didn't Scion offer a Bio-Hazard applique on the xB? I know they had the big fingerprint, which just seemed weird because the supposed goal for Scion drivers was for them to be different, yet I assume every car sold with that graphic had the same fingerprint.
  15. I'm having very bad luck with Power Wheels. We have 2, they were my nephews, but he outgrew them and my sister just kinda dumped them off at my place. One is a John Deere tractor whose battery is hidden very well. It took me forever to figure out how to get it out to charge it. The other is a Harley Davidson that doesn't have a battery, which confirmed my theory that my house is just my family's storage unit. I had another pedal car as a kid, it was a blue Ford tractor, I'll have to see if I can find it, I dont think we left it when we moved, so there are only a couple of places it could be hiding.
  16. Manhattan makes me think either "cocktail" or "nuclear weapon" while Cobalt makes me think of the big box of Crayola crayons.
  17. Balthy: I'm 24, no idea how old the car is, but I saw somewhere that this basic design was sold into the late 70's or early 80's so its possible it was a late production model, or someone swapped it out, cause the one on it is definitely plastic. I do really like the idea of a metal one, it just seems so wrong having one plastic piece in the whole thing.
  18. *Note to self: Add seatbelts, airbags (front and side) and a,b,c,d,e,f and g pillars I have thought about getting this and building/painting it myself, but it wouldn't really be the same.
  19. I found this sute that has close, though not exactly the same, graphics. The soft steering wheel is, as far as I know, the one that same with it, but I'm thinking abour getting a chrome reproduction AMF wheel because it will look much better than the black one.
  20. Corvair *runs and hides*
  21. squishy
  22. Want to hear something funny? After driving the Prius, the LeSabre is almost unbearable. The Buick has no steering feel, a floaty, disconnected ride, and far less comfortable seats. It reminds me of how far the automotive world has come in 20 years. Even GM has come a long way, but not far enough, and thats why they're getting government loans.
  23. He should be glad I dont have his cell phone number. Twice a week, I send texts to my friends reminding them to register and only remove them from my list once they've done it. My mantra: If you dont vote, you cant bitch. Registering takes literally 5 minutes. I went to City Hall and did it a few weeks before the election when I registered. One thing to keep in mind (that I didn't know before I started working as an election judge) is that some places aren't prudent when it comes to turning the paperwork in. License bureaus around here are apparently really bad about not bringing them to the County Clerk before the deadline.
  24. I've had this thing since I was like 3, dont know where it came from, my parents might remember, I haven't asked. But I've decided that I need to restore it. Shouldn't be too hard, the body is straight and most of the parts are there, it just has hellacious surface rust. For parts, all I'll need is a pedal (somehow its been through 3 houses and 2 storage units and only lost 1) the hubcaps, the seat cushion and a a new bell. The bell is there, but the dangly thing in the bell is M.I.A. I found most of the stuff online, my biggest concern at the moment is the graphics. They're painted on, and mostly there. I dont see any way around stripping the paint and starting over, but that means removing the graphics. I'm not artistically inclined at all, so re-doing them myself is out of the question. I'll have to do some looking around to see what having it done professionally would run. I found vinyl graphics online, but that just wouldn't be the same, now would it? Whats going to slow me down is that anytime my son sees it, he jumps in and starts cruising around, so I haven't been able to do jack yet. Oh, and you can see my next restoration project in the pic. No, not the Buick, the driveway thats just all sort of $h!ty.
