I really can't answer this one easily. Would I like New Orleans to be rebuilt as a thriving metropolis, port and historical landmark to this country, undoubtedly yes. Would I like to see it rebuilt and squandered away the way it was up to the point of Hurricane Katrina, undoubtedly HELL NO. If you're going to build a city that's below sea level, there are two choices: either build a significant (keep in mind, I said significant, which means build it to EXCEED the known dangers) infrastructure to support the city and its below sea level style, or level the damned place, use the rubble as filler and bring the city as a whole up above sea level, too bad that would destroy the French Quarter and the other historical areas of the city, however; in my mind, those are the two choices. As for the issue of people there are a great number of people who aren't going to be coming back into New Orleans, too many bad memories and too much fear associated with moving back. I agree with Sixty8, I can most certainly understand going into a grocery store and raiding the food off the shelf until the area can be restored to a "civilized" picture, but those who were stealing electronics and the like were stealing those things because they could, not because it would provide a way for them to live through the next day. And I know that if I were a soldier in the National Guard or Reserves that was sent into the New Orleans area and I were shot at, I'd return fire. It might be wrong, but I'm not going to allow someone to wontonly fire at me just because they have the rounds to cook off. Although this is my opinion and last time I checked, I'm entitled to it.

I do too, when I can actually GO camping...haven't been all 2005 and so far 2006 is starting out as a bust too.....I need to go and hit the woods.

My guess is that you were trying to roast marshmallows from the moon with that flame, sheesh!

Great looking rides Camino!

Well see, I've always heard two stories about how the 3.8L and 4.3L engines came into being. Story one tells me that GM wanted engines that were as reeliable as the 305 and 350 respectively, but in a 6-cylinder package. Story two tells me that the reliable and powerful 250 and 292 were just too darned old to update, so they bobbed a 305 and 350 block of cylinders 2 and 7 (although some say it's 4 and 6) and ended up with 229 (3.8L) and 262 (4.3L) respectively.
-
You pretty much got it with that one Sixty8....now tell me exactly which two cylinders were removed from the 350 block to make the 262/4.3L engine And oh yeah, answer me this one. Why in the heck did GM decide to "evolve" to the 4.3L and 3.8L V6 engines?
-
OH yeah, a LOT more...think of everything that's on an engine if you pull it out of a vehicle and think of how common those three engines are...then put it together.
-
All right, all of y'all who can wrap around this one.....it should be easy. Lets say, I propose tearing down a Chevy 305, 350, and a 262 V6, what parts would be interchangable? Edit: WHOOOOO HOOOO 100 posts!

I'm not going to touch that one with a 10-foot pole with a red hot poker strapped to it......

Safe to say? I say they don't change the oil, they just let it run with the same stuff until it seizes up. Like you said, they'd need a Supertanker's worth to fill it back up, and you cannot tell me there's an oil filter wrench and ratchet that'll fit that thing and I'll be damned if I'm the weenie stuck to twist it off.

XP I have a couple of friends from Mass, and they aren't THAT bad....I can understand them and I'm southern, although I DO know of some southerners that speak and as redneck and country as I am and can be, I still have to look at them and say "huh?!"

Y'all might think its funny, but its not pop or soda here, its all coke....no matter if its pepsi, mountain dew, sprite, its all coke to us.

All right, where do I begin. Awww screw it, I'll go through the fleet's problems (or lack thereof). 1976 Chevy (Mine): 212,000 miles on it, 3rd GENERATION owner/driver, Engine rebuilt at 190,000 miles (both head gaskets blew, otherwise the engine was spotless) transmission rebuilt at 150,000 miles and 28 years, original U-joints replaced at 190k along with the engine, couple of sets of front pads, only changed the back shoes once, turned the front rotors once, rebuilt the rear brake system (wheel cylinders, hardware, ect) at about 78,000 and 26 years, replaced the master cylinder, couple of fuel pumps, spark plugs, wires, distributor caps, rotor buttons, you know normal stuff....that's all for that one. 2001 Chevy Impala: 107,000 miles Second Owner Front pads, turned the front rotors, rear pads, plugs, wires, filters....a water pump (didn't need replacing, but I thought I heard a squeal coming from it), belt tensioner pulley (did have a squeal coming from it) and a serpentine belt.....I think a burned out brake light...maybe.... 1989 Chevy S10 Blazer: 175,000 miles One Owner, front pads, rear shoes, rear drums/hardware, water pump, distributor cap, rotor button (no spark plugs, no wires, all orignal parts) driver's side window motor, belts, hoses, batteries, lights, the "normal" items that are bound to go bad over the years, otherwise NOTHING else. 1983 Chevrolet C20: 286,315 miles on the odometer, my grandfather is the second owner, no mechanical problems, only spark plugs have been replaced, NOTHING else except for oil, air, fuel, and transmission filters...that's it. Well those are my big-mileage vehicles, and as you can see, no big problems, most of the work was on the '76 simply because there were a lot of modifications and customizations on it that can't really count as mechanical difficulties.
-
Holy $h! Batman! Imagine what changing the oil is like in that booger....I mean think about it, you can't just walk into you're local parts place and buy the filter for it, unless you own a train to carry it on.
-
I know, I know, its an old thread, but I'm catching up on it all. Although I did think that the best name of an Apache is the McDonnell Douglas AH-64.....then again, I'm an aircraft and GM nut.

Camino you're right, I should have been a little more specific on the questions. I was referring to the V8s, and in 1979 Chevy moved the dipstick on the small blocks (big blocks were already in the passenger side if I recall) to the passenger's side of the block. And again you're right, in 1986 (as an '87 model) the valve cover bolts were moved to the center and the rear main seal was made a one piece unit to work with the TBI engines.
-
In what year did the dipstick on Chevy truck and car engines move to the passenger side? Also in what year did the valve cover bolts on the Chevy truck and car engines move from the perimeter to the center?
-
I agree withthat wholeheartedly ocn. I really do. I remember the last rwd car that my mom and dad had and it was fun (if you can call a Caprice fun to sling around corners).
-
Damn FOG....mad aren't ya? I don't agree with the writer one bit there, I'm not a redneck, sure I live in the south, I hunt, I fish, and I work on my own cars, but that doesn't make me one bit redneck, and oh yeah, I love NASCAR, considering I've met several of the drivers and I work for a major sponsor of NASCAR (CarQuest Auto Parts), I'm entitled to think that Toyotas are pieces of $h!, sure they can be reliable little boxes just like any other car, I can't knock the reliability factor, I've seen too many running around. I can however knock the fact that the media jumps at anything that bashes the Big 3. I rarely ever see recall information on any of the Asian marques, or the European marques, however; let it be a GM, FoMoCo, or DCX ride and it'll be front-page "this just in" news. Anyways, that's just my two cents and for y'all that do think I'm a redneck, then you may happily kiss my redneck donkey.
-
I haven't understood what the hoopla is about the squat little japanese compact but like turbo said, you could sling it around a corner and not feel too guilty about it.
-
That's a great looking car. I hope that you are able to have a lot of fun with it and just like everyone else has said on here, you don't see that many modded Saab's around here, or anywhere but Europe, I would suppose. It looks great and I wish you the best of luck and since I'm the late-comer on the whole deal, welcome aboard.

Unfortunately no songs in particular really bring things to mind, like good memories or anything like that unless you want to get into stuff like theme music from tv shows and stuff. But as far as music is concerned, George Jones, Charlie Daniels Band, Aerosmith, Guns N Roses, Alabama, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, Confederate Railroad, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Beethoven, Tu Pac, Aaron Tippin, Quad City DJs, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Creed, Diamond Rio, Rolling Stones, Beattles, Steppenwolf, Led Zepplin, Def Leopard, Pink Floyd, Lee Greenwood (God Bless the USA in particular), Ray Stevens, Hank Williams Jr, Hank Williams Sr, Tracy Byrd, Big & Rich, Travis Tritt, Randy Travis, Three Dog Night, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doobie Brothers, ZZ Top, Kentucky Headhunters, Brooks & Dunn, Santana, Tracy Lawrence, Kenny Chesney, Garth Brooks, The Doors, Bob Seger, Godsmack, Trapt, Staind, The Bellemay Brothers, Cledus T.
