  1. Every article on the new Tahoe has been the same so far. There is praise for the vehicle in every way. However, there is an overriding theme in the stories on politics (like this one) or oil prices (Carn and Driver and MotorTrend). Where is this fuel economy obssession with ANY other vehicle? What is so politically charged about a Tahoe? How is its significant improvement in fuel economy anything but good news? Why the stupid and relentless spin? You have to litterally wade through all the garbage to get to the net results: the new Tahoe is great. Typical anti-GM, anti-Detroit bias. Mark
  2. These prices are too high. So much for caring for resale values. It's obvious GM priced them with rebate in mind. The public is conditioned on seeing $8K to $10K discounts on Tahoes. With the $2K lower MSRP, GM will need to discount them to move them in volume after the initial sales evaporate. Who wants to start a poll of when we will see $6K discounts on Tahoes? I give it 1 year to happen. Mark
  3. Rear bumpers are not required on trucks. Mark
  4. Looks great. The engine specs are pathetic and would look good only about 15 years ago. Mark
  5. As long as GM makes the 165K yearly target a requirement, we will never see a Camaro return to the market place. Cars like this peak early and then rapidly drop. They need to design a business case around a persistent 60K vehicles a year target. Mark
  6. I don't think its a photochop. It's clearly a picture from a magazine. The person worked with the image in Photoshop before publishing it. Way to BLOW Chrysler. Mark
  7. The idea of a new production Camaro is exciting. Since this is just a concept and it will be years (if ever) before anything with a Camaro badge reaches the market, I cannot get excited. Concept vehicle have never excited me and they never will. Real world production vehicles that I can buy... that's another story and I can excited. Mark
  8. What would you call "American Revolution"? There some flag wrapping going on there. LaNeve should STFU. He's been an complete failure in his new job. Mark
  9. Looks good. Just the change in color does wonders for the front end of the car. The gold color that Chevy used to unveil the Tahoe was just plain ugly looking to me, but I'll admit that I'm biased and don't like any gold colored vehicle. Mark
  10. This really pisses me off. It just confirms that the UAW is not the biggest problem in GM, it's the idiotic managment. Gee, I've read for YEARS people talking about the harm "the deal" has been doing to GM brands for years now. Now LaNeve regets it. How laughable. "Our comeback has to be fueled by great products," Mr. LaNeve said. "There has been no comeback in our industry that hasn't been fueled by great products." Hello?! Did you just realize this? Who hasn't been saying this for years? When was this NOT the case in the automotive industry? "We've got to get our mojo back in terms of the way we are viewed," he said. "But I don't know what the answer is. How do we get America rooting for us?" Here's how. Make best in class vehicles, back them with great warrenties and offer them for a good price. GM strikes out in all three of these areas on most of their product line. GM's products over the last 30 years have been severally comprised in every way. Stop defending/using OHV engines, stop reusing 20 year od car platforms, stop shipping mid and high end cars and trucks with 4 speed autos, stop making ABS, side and curtain airbags, and stability control optional, etc, etc. If GM continues to comprise its products because it cannot afford world class ones due to legacy costs or some other thing they cannot or will not fix then they should give up now. Otherwise, we will see another 30 years of gradual decline in GM. I've been rooting for GM for 20+ years now and they continue to disappoint me at just about every turn. I'm getting sick of it. I still view Roger Smith as the biggest single factor for GM's current sad state of affairs, but this new management team isn't rating much better. Mark
  11. According to Toyota-think, Scion is for the younger/hip crowd that wants to customize it. The Yaris is obviously targeted at the more mature audiance that wants basic transportation from point A to B. Mark
  12. It's a shame to see these cuts. These guys are working on future products. This just means GM will continue to lag the industry with their products. They will continue to update their trucks OR their cars. Not both because of resource issues. Products will go 6-7 years between refreshes instead of the needed 5 years. They will continue to use tired old platforms like the GM10 instead of coming up with new world class ones. Mark
  13. No low volume car will turn around GM. It needs its high volume models to be great in order for it to turn around. The new full size SUVs look promising, but the new Impala is a complete disappointment. Where are the great first class GM sedans the market wants? Mark

    ......

I cannot believe the HHR won. This is truly out of left field. The HHR is just so mediocre and such a clear copy of the PT Cruiser. The Fusion, the Sonota, the Solstice, the Civic, the Miata, the Z06, anything would have made more sense. Mark
  15. Welcome to last week! http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23800 Mark
  16. His track record is better than most of GM management. He helped get Chrysler and IBMs cost structure in order when he was with those companies. GM is afraid he will suggest and force the cuts that GM has been avoiding. Mark
  17. This is good to hear. The sooner the better. I hope the Avalance and Silverado have a more agressive front end than the Tahoe. The Tahoe looks fine for the soccer mom demographics, but looks wimpy for a truck and the heavily main demographic there. Mark
  18. I'm going to agree with others about the overhangs, way too big, especially the front. The green house look inflated, but that's the trend in cars these days. The C pillars look good, but they will invariably cause a blind spot. I hope it looks better than this, but it looks better than the current ugly duckling. I hate how sketches like this have the car with impossibly huge tires. I've never understood the need for such unrealistic tires in sketches. Mark
  19. The EXT Trailblazer was ungainly looking, performed badly, and got universally poor reviews. It will not be missed. GM should drop the BOF mid-size SUVs and focus on unibody ones. No one belittles Jeeps and they have been unibody for decades. Unibody can be plenty tough. BOF is technology that's been out of date for 30+ years. It makes sense for the 1% of the population that needs the towing abilities that it enables. I say screw the 1% that needs to tow a lot and focus on making a good hanlding, packaging efficient unibody SUV with a proper powertrain. Mark
  20. Wow. Heated wiper fluid. If this is the most unique thing the new Lucerne has to offer, I expect it to have very short legs in the marketplace. Mark
  21. These vehicles are already long in the tooth now. Imagine how they will look in two long years. Ick. This just goes to show that GM cannot do enough product developement concurrently. It continues the past problem of keeping products around much too long which does nothing put continue to make the entire GM products lines look outdated. Mark
  22. Errr, I must have missed the reviews that had any of these vehicles (the Tahoe isn't out yet) in a class leading position. The Impala, HHR, and Cobalt are all mediocre products. Mark
  23. The Lucerne is proof that except for a small handful of cars (Corvette and...?), GM does not know how to make a class leading vehicle anymore. It's so damn average in every way. Exterior styling is average and derivative. The interior looks average for the class it's competing in. The engines are at best average. The transmission is below average. This product is better than the previous model, but big deal, anything would have been. The reuse of the old tired G body platform tells me nothing about this new car will make it magically better in terms of handling. Tell me what I'm supposed to be excited about here? The long steady decline of GM will continue as long as GM keeps pushing out cars like this and the new Impala. Mark
  24. Saab is an easy choice to dump. It's never made money, and it has promised profitability for years. It's nothing but a costly distraction to GM. It's hard to see any future in Buick. It's products don't appeal to new buyers and I don't see that changing. Mark
  25. The new Camaro should be no longer than the Mustang. The old Camaro was a packaging nightmare. It was huge on the outside (turned off girls) and small on the inside (turned on practical buyers). The new Mustang is at the uppermost limits in my opinon. If GM is trying to make a Camaro for baby boomers, then they should just cancel the thing right now. They need to make a car that is appealing to the younger generation first and foremost. Get a new generation hooked on Camaros. The nostalgia people will come along if it's decent. A very close second is make it practical enough for the older buyers. Third, the vehicle needs to be well made. The quality of Camaros has ALWAYS sucked big time. Quality and reliability needs to be much improved. Oh well, we've heard all this yapping about the upcoming Camaro for YEARS now. It's really quite frustrating. When the new Camaro HITS THE SHOWROOM and is ON SALE, I will get excited. Otherwise, GM should waste no ones time with concepts cars that won't be around for 4 years. GM should SHUT THE HELL UP and only talk when they have something that will hit the market in four MONTHS.
