  1. The Equinox and Torrent are the same, but the Vue is quite different. Different plant, very different body construction, etc. Platform sharing does not equal rebadge. Mark
  2. I'd be relunctant to buy an all new tranmission in its first year of production. Mark
  3. This will go down in history as one of the biggest mistakes Jeep has made in a long time. The product is horribly ugly. It's almost a joke how ugly it is. On top of that, it dilutes the brand image that Jeep has stood for for so long. It will not be considered a "real Jeep". With the ulgy Commander and now this abomination, it's clear that Jeep has lost its way. Mark
  4. I read this review and I was disappointed by another slight from MotorTrend. Rather than just say the Escalade is a better product than the RR, Motortrend goes out of its way to water down the positive aspects of the Escalade by talking about nothing but "bling". How about they review a Honda Civic and talk all day long about how it's the "king of rice" or something? Oh no, that would be unfair and possibly racist, but it's OK to insult Escalade buyers and lump them with ganster rappers. Whatever, more evidence of media bias. Mark
  5. You have the wonder when a tipping point will be reached where someone like Delphi or GM can just call the union's bluff, let them strike, and hire replacement workers. Catepiller did is some time ago and it's a much more competitve company today as a result. Northwest did it with the mechanics. The percentage of unionized works is getting so low nowadays that it's inevitable that this will happen soon. The economy is too heathly today nationwide to do this, but during a recession, where a ready supply or replacement works are available, may be a time that this could happen. Mark
  6. You call this something to say? OK. It's a sketch. Yippee. Mark

    Black Tuesday

Well I hope GM targeted the poor performing employees with this layoffs and I hope they eliminate many layers of management. If these two things happen, GM will be better off. Let's hope GM put some good thought into this. Mark
  8. GM is running out of assets to sell to raise money to cover its losses and committments. I hope GM can turn things around in a hurry. There's precious little buffer left. Mark
  9. The GMT-355's are such a disappointment on so many level. From really poor up front decisions, anemic engines, small size, high prices, terrible quality, to pathetic interiors. GM really missed the boat on these vehicles. Nothing innovative came out with these trucks - nothing. They are so outclassed by their newest rivals that it boggles the mind. You can blame Isuzu for some of this, but I think the blame falls on on GM. Mark
  10. This is so disappointing to me. I had a 1998 Malibu that did the same damn thing. I used to pop it in neutral at stop lights to avoid this vibration. In my wife's Honda Odyssey, there is none of this shaking. It really is much smoother. Mark
  11. I saw the Azera at a recent autoshow and was impressed by the interior. It truly looks first rate. Mark
  12. Anyone notice that CR is the last group measuring quality that says Detroit lags significantly? They JD Power, which is a much more objective measurement of quality, paints a much better pictures for Detroit. I remember the JD Power reports on quality were the one quoted all day long in the mainstream press when Detroit was lagging in the 1980's. Now, they go out of their way to quote the CR reports to make their case on why Detroit is failing. More media bias. Mark
  13. If this is true, or even remotely true, we now have a new insight on why GM is so in trouble. When management needs to execute a stategy and the rank and file dutiful ignore it, you got problems. When management needs to lie to the employees to get them to stop screwing off and focus on something else, that's downright pathetic. Mark
  14. This review in MT focused on the new 6 speed auto. I haven't seen other reviews talk about how it peforms, only that it is available. Mark
  15. This is the best review of the Tahoe I've seen so far. Good job GM! It's nice to read a Tahoe review that doesn't begin with an obsession about high gas prices like all the other reviews I've seen. Mark
  16. Thanks for the upgrades. This site is among my favorite ones around. Keep up the good work. Mark
  17. Well, I for one would not miss VW if it cessed to exist. Mark
  18. These "He said, she said" reviews are lame. Mark

    The New Tundra

I would like nothing more than see the new Tundra to bomb in the marketplace. It would be great to see GM and Ford come out with best in class products that put Toyota to shame. I would love to see Toyota's new plant in Texas scaled back over time because lack of demand for the Tundra. If this does not happen, then the truck market will slowly become like the car market is today and GM and Ford will continue to shrink. Mark
  20. I don't like duallies. They look silly and 99.99% of the time they putter around town from WalMart to WalMart nearly empty. Mark
  21. This is good news for GM. I hope that York can force some tough changes on GM that Waggoner and Co. have been hesitent to do. Let's hope the rest of the GM board doesn't marganilize him like they did Perot. Mark
  22. Wake me up in 3 to 4 years when I can buy one from a dealer. GM will hype this endlessly so that by the time it finally hits the dealer lots it will feel like old news. Mark
  23. Here's all you need to remember from this survey: On average, Ford and GM brands are more reliable than the average Japanese brand. This is also the case with European brands. This applies to initial quality too. Now why is the media keeping this type of information quiet? They used to tout these surveys when GM and Ford were below average. Why is Consumer Reports the source the media points to now for reliability? Can you say media bias? Mark
  24. If Bush cared about "helping America become less dependent on foreign sources of oil" he would propose meaningful increases in CAFE. He's not and he never will. Mark
  25. The rear suspension is also better on the Avalanche. It uses the Suburbans coil spring rear suspension and not the Silverado's crude (but necessary on a pickup) leaf sping suspension. Mark
