Finally! Nissan Talks About the Half-Ton Titan

We have been waiting very patiently for Nissan to give us any information on the Titan half-ton and today at the Chicago Auto Show, they did just that.

In terms of design, it is hard to tell the difference between the half-ton and the XD models. Where the differences are apparent is in the chassis. The Titan's overall length measures out to 228.1-inches long, about 11.8-inches shorter than the XD's. Wheelbase and height are also shorter than the XD. Interestingly, both the Titan and Titan XD have the same width - 79.5 inches.

When the Titan goes on sale this summer, Nissan will offer three cab options (single, king, and crew) and three bed lengths (5.5, 6.5, and 8 feet). A V6 will be the base engine (details will be announced at a later date), and 5.6L Endurance V8 with 390 horsepower and 401 pound-feet will be optional. A seven-speed automatic will be bolted to the V8.

Nissan releases details of upcoming all-new, half-ton TITAN pickup at Chicago Auto Show

    • Half-ton truck fills out TITAN lineup; goes on sale in summer 2016

CHICAGO – Now that the all-new flagship XD model of Nissan's reimagined TITAN family of pickups is on dealer lots, Nissan is turning its attention to the upcoming "standard" (half-ton) version of TITAN at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show with a special photography release.

"There's a strong family resemblance between TITAN XD and the standard TITAN, with their shared rugged exterior style," said Rich Miller, Director of Product Planning for Trucks, SUVs and Commercial Vehicles, Nissan North America, Inc. and Chief Product Specialist for TITAN and TITAN XD. "TITAN will compete in the heart of the full-size pickup segment – the half-ton – while the TITAN XD provides a unique solution for customers by bridging the cost and capability gap between traditional half-ton and full heavy-duty pickups. Together TITAN and TITAN XD will cover nearly 85 percent of the total full-size truck market."

TITAN is built on a separate chassis from TITAN XD, and is approximately 228.1 inches long (14.7 inches less than XD) and 79.5 inches wide (same as XD), with the cab size shared between the two vehicles. "The TITAN and TITAN XD do not share any common chassis components," added Miller. "Even the lug nuts are different."

TITAN will be available in 4x2 or 4x4 drive configurations with three cabin configurations – Crew Cab, King Cab and Single cab – and three bed lengths – 5.5, 6.5 and 8 feet. Similar to TITAN XD, TITAN will be available in five trim levels – S, SV, PRO-4X, SL and Platinum Reserve.

The TITAN will be powered by Nissan's 5.6-liter Endurance® V8 gasoline engine capable of 390 horsepower and 401 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine will be mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. A V6 gasoline engine will also be available (details to be announced at a later date).

The Nissan TITAN will be assembled in Canton, Mississippi with the 5.6-liter V8 gasoline assembled in Decherd, Tennessee. The truck goes on sale in summer 2016.

I REALLY wanted the XD to be a badass truck and put it to the half ton D3s but the last review I read it just didn't seem any more capable than any other f150/1500 with the top engine and tow package. I don't know why I wanted to like it because I pretty much hate everything else Nissan makes but I wanted to like this truck but it just doesn't seem up to the challenge called the Detroit3. I think I just wanted to see what the D3 would do to answer the XD but the XD never really upped anything. 12,300lbs towing, F150 can do that, Silverado can do that, Ram can tow 10,650lbs so I guess it tops the Ram a little.

I also am assuming that the D3's half tons that are doing this are all doing to be single cab, long bed, 2WD and I do'nt know what the 12,300lbs for the XD are in. I didn't think it even came in a single cab.

Not even cute.  Over-decorated.  Want to see a reg cab 6.5 foot box version, if there is one.

Well AutoGuide had some spy shots of a reg cab mule with an eight-foot box I believe this week.

What a :puke: look to a truck. Sorry I know some of you guys here love your Chrome, but it seems the Asians have gone Chrome overload on their auto's and this is another perfect example of a freaking Fuggly Truck!

Nissan should have spent the money on their cars and CUVs rather than waste it on this truck. Makes no sense.

I think all of them in their premium trims are basically dipped in chrome. Bumper, grille, mirrors, steps, handles, bigger larger badges, wheels...

Baby Boomers love their Chrome, Some past that generation also, but more and more people seem to like Monochromatic paint jobs with a hint of chrome such as wheels only and Millennials like my son want everything Matte finish.

I guess I'm the outlier here since I'm a millennial and rather have a monochromatic paint coat than matte.

I'm a Gen Xer and like chrome, monochromatic seems like too much of an 80s thing, I don't care for the black out trim base look, definitely don't like matte finishes.    Interesting that the red regular cab has a Nissan fork lift attached.

My guess is this a prototype without an engine. Just a rolling body.

Mitsubishi dealers are living in interesting times.  After a tumultuous fall in sales after the recession, the last year and a quarter has given Mitsubishi double digit gains in sales.  Sales for 2018 rose 14 percent and so far this year, sales are up an astonishing 17.6 percent.
The question for Mitsubishi is where do they go from here?  With two small crossovers, a large one, and a subcompact car, the next logical answer for their dealers is adding a mid-size pickup to the mix.  Mitsubishi last offered a pickup in the Mitsubishi Raider which was a rebadged Dodge Dakota.
Now part of the Nissan-Renault alliance, Mitsubishi is reportedly taking the lead on building the platform for the next line of trucks for the trio. Mitsubishi currently builds the Triton for other global markets, while Nissan fields the Navara, and Renault produces the Alaskan.  All three would be consolidated to a single platform headed by the Mitsubishi effort in about 5 years.  Five years is an eternety in the automotive world, but it may be that the dealerships would need to wait that long to get their wish.
It was recently revealed that Nissan is working on a next generation Nissan Frontier, but that truck will use an updated version of its current platform rather than move to a global one.  Still it is possible that a future Frontier could move to the Mitsubishi based platform that is years away from production.
In the meantime, Mitsubishi is working to expand its dealership network. There are some markets in the US where the brand is non-existent. So Mitsubishi is looking to expand in markets like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, New York, and Boston.

Nissan unveiled the Nissan Sylphy at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this month and spies have caught it in the US virtually confirming it will be coming to the US as the next generation Nissan Sentra.
Looking like a mini-Nissan Altima, Nissan says the chassis is now much stiffer and they have gone and improved the suspension and steering feel.  The interior has been made to look much more luxurious with quilted seats and a slicker looking dashboard.
The infotainment system is a 8-inch TFT screen and the driver gets a 7-inch TFT gauge cluster. Nissan's ProPilot Assist will be available and includes things like collision warning, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, cross traffic alert, and others.

No details yet on powertrain except that Nissan says the 4-cylinder engine and CVT have been updated.
