Interesting that this is one of the few times you have a TDI that is priced below the rest of the gas lineup. With Audi's Generic Bland Jelly bean design language, I think they need an update as this will get them a few more sales but not the growth they are thinking. Pricing seems to be inline with this class of car. Better than MB or BMW, that is for sure.

The diesel should get solid mileage.   The smart thing Audi is doing is making multiple body styles to broaden the appeal of the car.  This is why Audi outsells Acura, Cadillac, Infiniti and Cadillac.  Those brands mostly make sedans and crossovers and forget about the sports cars, especially Lincoln and Acura.

Really, i actually like the new GTI MK VII more than the A3.  But Audi is the new brand for up and coming professionals. Probably why they and Subaru are up more than almost anyone else in our (North American) market.

Audi is sort of the hot brand for up and comers, but I wonder how long it will last too.  BMWs seems to be being designed to fit with their customer base as it ages.  15 years ago BMW made cars for 40 year olds, now it seems they are making cars for 55 year olds to satisfy the base.   Mercedes, Lexus and Cadillac always had a bit of an older person's image, Audi doesn't have that image problem, the people that bought VW's and Subarus 10 years ago are flocking to Audi.

Audi has image right now, but I think their car line up top to bottom is the worst of the German trio.  The cars have poor reliability, are noisy, that 2.0T idles rough and is buzzy like a lawn mower, they ride stiff, etc.  Smart buyers will look past the 5 spoke wheels and LED lights and buy something else.

I totally agree with you on Audi, a coworker I work with daily has one and it seems to be in the shop 50% of the time. Drove in it and the CTS V is a superior ride and auto compared to the Audi performance line.

The first person has been charged in the U.S.' Volkswagen diesel emission probe. Today at the U.S. Federal Court in Detroit, James Robert Liang, leader of diesel competence for Volkswagen from 2008 until June of this year entered a plea of guilty to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government, commit wire fraud, and violate the Clean Air Act.
According to grand jury indictment filed back in June and unsealed today,  “Liang and his co-conspirators, including current and former employees, and others, agreed to defraud the U.S. and VW customers, and violate the Clean Air Act, by misleading the U.S. and VW customers about whether VW diesel motors complied with U.S. emissions standards,” prosecutors wrote.
Documents showed Liang was on the team that developed the diesel engine at the center of this scandal, the EA 189 2.0L four-cylinder back in 2006. The team realized that the engine wouldn't meet the strict U.S. standards on nitrogen oxide emissions while also attracting “sufficient customer demand.” Thus the decision was made to develop and install the 'defeat device' software on the EA 189 to pass emission tests. This engine would be installed on various Volkswagen vehicles starting in 2009.
In 2014, Liang's team would update the software to help cut down on warranty claims. Engineers believed the reason for the increase in claims was due to the vehicle operating with the defeat device on for too long. Around this time, U.S. regulators would begin asking Volkswagen questions about the discrepancies between the amount of emissions being emitted during lab tests and in real-world driving. Various Volkswagen employees either lied when talking with regulators.
“I know VW did not disclose the defeat device to U.S. regulators in order to sell the cars in the U.S. That’s what makes me guilty,” said Liang to the court.
Liang faces up to five years in jail and a fine of up to $250,000 or twice the gross gain or loss. In a plea agreement signed on August 31st, prosecutors say in exchange for his agreement to cooperate with the probe, the U.S. government agrees not to use any new information about Liang’s own criminal conduct during the sentencing hearing expected to take place on January 11th. Liang's cooperation could help out in the investigation and shine a light on more people involved.
When asked for comment, Volkswagen spokeswoman Jeannine Ginivan declined.

Sales of Fiat vehicles in the U.S. have been tanking and FCA is making a drastic change to try and reverse this. Automotive News got their hands on documents revealing a new pricing structure that will see Fiat cut the prices on some of their models.
The base 500 will see a price cut of $2,000 ($14,995 from $16,995). The price doesn't include a $995 destination charge. The big price cuts will come to the 500C lineup as there will now be a $1,495 difference between the cabrio and regular hardtop. A key example is the 500C Abarth which sees its price drop from $26,695 to $21,490 for 2017. Prices for the 124 Spider and 500X remain unchanged.
A Fiat spokesman declined to comment.
