    GM Executives Reaffirm Sale of Opel Will Not Affect Buick's Lineup

      GM Executives aren't showing any signs of worry for Buick after the sale of Opel

    There are still a lot of unanswered questions concerning the sale of Opel/Vauxhall to PSA Groupe. A fair number deals with Buick as a number of their products (including the new Regal) are intertwined with Opel. GM executives say this will not affect Buick's lineup down the road.

    “The sale of Opel will have no impact on the fresh new lineup Buick is building out,” said Duncan Aldred, GM’s vice president of global Buick and GMC during the launch of the 2018 Regal this week.

    “This is very much part of our portfolio plan,” said Mark Reuss, GM’s executive vice president of global product development, purchasing, and supply chain to Car and Driver. “As we said, Opel and the engineering/production piece of this is very much intact for all of our global platforms. So, you know, no impact.”

    While the deal isn't fully finished yet, Reuss claimed that issues relating to products would be settled before the final transfer takes place. Reuss said he didn't know "of a specific agreement" when asked about if GM would pay PSA Group for engineering work done by Opel. 

    In related news, Automotive News Europe reports that Opel would continue to build Buick vehicles beyond 2019 in its German factories.

    Interesting, I can see to offload Opel/Vauxhall that they would commit to having some auto's built in the European plants, but eventually I think this will wind down.

    I'm not worried....there are enough things that GM makes that could tossed on a platform for a new car for Buick....

      GM's Lordstown facility has been sold to startup Lordstown Motors.  Lordstown Motors will produce the Workhorse Endurance pickup truck, an all-electric truck, at the site. 
      The Endurance has all-wheel drive via 4 motors, one for each wheel.  It also has outlets to allow for the use of power tools. Workhorse is also in the bidding to make plug-in mail trucks for the U.S. Postal Service.  Workhorse has 6,000 orders for a truck based on the W-15 Prototype, and those orders would be moved to Lordstown for production. Workhorse is targeting fleet buyers. With fewer moving parts and lower fuel costs, it could translate to lower cost-to-own for fleet operators. 
      Lordstown Motors still needs to go through several more rounds of fund raising in order to continue development, conduct safety testing, and retool the plant for production.

The stock is up 4.71 percent over Monday's close at the time of this writing.

      China is by far Buick's most important market. More than three quarters of all Buicks sold are sold in China.  To that end, it should be no surprise that China gets updated models before the U.S. and also get variants that never will see our shores. Even models that are dead in the US, like the Lacrosse and Verano, continue on selling well in China.
      The Buick Enclave is one example.  In the U.S. it is a full-size model, but in China it is downsized to a mid-size model approximately the size of the current GMC Acadia. Buick just debuted the new Enclave in China and while it is unlikely we'll see it over here, the U.S. model could get many of the same updates when it bows for 2021.
      Outside we see a revised front fascia with a new grill. The running lights have the familiar boomerang shape while the headlamps have moved lower into the bumper area.  A new grille insert is there with a wider horizontal slat that gives the Enclave more visual width.

      The inside is where the real story is at. Greatly updated, the infotainment system is seamlessly integrated into the dash and a new set of buttons takes the place of the Precision Control shifter. The console is the floating type with storage underneath. (Click image to enlarge)
      The Chinese Enclave is powered by GM's 2.0-liter turbocharged LSY engine making around 230 horsepower and coupled to a 9-speed automatic transmission.

    • 442 : I have seen where your automotive passions lie, and I have no issues with that, of course. Always; to each, his own. I know I am generally very particular- that's just me. There's no singular automotive segment that I like unilaterally. • 1960 Eldorado Seville coupe, for me? Why, thank you, anonymous wealthy donor, I shall love it like my own child! • 1960 Merc Park Lane coupe, for me? Ummm, may I politely allow another to appreciate this automobile over myself?  
    • I can relate...i like a lot of stuff from a lot of manufacturers.  I'm sure some of it is due to what I was exposed to at an early age.   '60s-70s muscle cars and pony cars, full size American cars from the '60s-80s (esp. '69-72), personal luxury coupes.  Mustangs were my first loves. Over the years have gained an appreciation for German luxury and performance sedans, esp. the big Mercs of the 80s to today.  I like Northstar Cadillacs.  I like JDM performance cars like the older Skylines, though I've only seen a few in person.  Like a variety of Porsches and other European performance cars.  Like modern Volvo wagons.   I love a variety of Jeeps.  Love vintage race cars. 
    • Impossible, they're only 3 inches apart. I assumed the GX will replace the Encore, but that's a curious way to go about it; just enlarge the next Encore. This continual halving of vehicle segments is not sustainable.
    • I get you. And yes, I see what you are sayin' and I agree with it. My choice of words, whether worded wrong or right, I did not realize the impact it might have.  And yes, I have formed that theme and bias.  I like muscle car type cars. I like performance oriented cars.  I like automotive rivalries and what cars come out of that rivalry.  I usually like how cars have evolved as a product in their own environment.   Skylines, to me, are muscle car like.  Originally, the cars were normal cars that were stuffed with higher performance engines in them creating a faster car. And over the years and decades, we got what we have today.  So I like Skylines.   Any car stuffed with a big V8 where normally a smaller engine resides, I like. The AMG Hammer in the late 80s and more often than not, the modern AMG V8 cars, I enjoy those. I like Ford GT40 versus Ferrari 250s.  I like Lamborghinis versus Ferraris. I like Chevy versus Ford versus Dodge. And if you have the patience to read my posts, you will clearly see what cars I usually have passion for.
