From the "it can't get any worse, can it?" file, Fisker has been smacked with a lawsuit by their former employees alleging the company violated the law when they were laid off.

Last Friday, Fisker announced they would be laying off 75% of their employees (about 160 employees) as "a necessary strategic step to... maximize the value of Fisker's core assets," which is complicated way of saying 'we're trying to conserve as much cash as possible'.

However, employees have sued Fisker in Federal court, stating the company violated the US Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification (WARN) Act which says a company must give employees 60 days of notice of a termination. The suit also alleges Fisker failed to pay the employees the wages and other benefits they would have earned in the 60 days following the layoffs.

Fisker's communications firm, Sitrick and Co said the company had no immediate comment concerning the suit.

This is to be expected, why would anyone want to be in California and deal with the mess of trying to run a business there. Course if they are bankrupt, does that law really have merit?

This is going to be one ugly mess of a shutdown.

Be interesting to see if the courts throw out any requirements from the EPA for their loans and allows this to be taken over by the Chinese?

Today Henrik Fisker announced the name for Fisker's upcoming EV SUV. Called the Ocean, it has been shown in a number of concept studies over the past year.
The concept wears a solar roof to help with charging and retractable door handles. Looking mildly like a Range Rover Evoque, the vehicle is being produced with many recycled materials. Fisker claims this will make the SUV one of the most sustainable vehicle available.
The starting price is claimed to be around $40,000 and have a range of over 300 miles through its 80 kWh enhanced lithium-ion batteries. Rear-motor, rear drive and dual-motor all wheel drive will be available.  The SUV should hit the market in late 2021, about a year after Tesla's Model Y goes on sales.  Fisker is offering a Tesla-like online-only sales model with "nationwide concierge service".
Henrik also announced that there will be some big news on November 27th, the day before Thanksgiving, when online reservation become available.  The production ready prototype will be revealed in January 2020.
Fisker has been late in delivering on its promises before, so if you're waiting for one of these, you may be waiting a little longer than planned.

Ford is finishing up production of the Ford Flex at its Oakville Assembly plant in Ontario.  Production is set to finish at the end of November.  The Lincoln MKT which is also built on the line has already ceased production earlier this month.  In cutting these two vehicles, Ford will also lay off about 450 out of 4,100 hourly workers at the plant. The cuts come as Ford changes to an all-utility and truck brand.
The Flex was first introduced for the 2008 model year as a bold and retro alternative to a wagon or traditional SUV, combining some elements of both.
Ford is scheduled to begin negotiations with Unifor, the largest private sector union in Canada, sometime in 2020. Unifor hopes to get some investment from Ford at the Oakville plant.

We first saw a rendering of the forthcoming Fisker SUV back in March of this year.  Now Fisker is releasing some photos of the concept and a few more details. The front end of the Fisker SUV looks mildly like a Land Rover if you stare at the headlights long enough.  Along the side are retracting door handles and an interesting D-Pillar turn-signal repeater.  Fisker has previously shown the SUV with a solar roof to help with charging.
Fisker says the SUV will start under $40,000 and have a range over 300 miles per charge.  They are also claiming that the vehicle will be the most sustainable vehicle available with many of the parts being made from recycled materials.   For now, the look of the interior is a secret until its official unveiling later this year.  Fisker hopes to have the SUV on the road in 2021.

    • This thing is pretty much exactly as stupid as I imagined.  LOL!
    • I'll be impressed if Ford can pull off this Stang Mach-E launch. I hope it's better than the disastrous 2020 Explorer/Aviator launch for their sake. Pretty mean looking in your face picture with C&D write up here... https://www.caranddriver.com/ford/mustang-mach-e
    • China needs BEV's like yesterday with all the smog and other pollution they have going on right now, their vehicle emissions standards are horrible and gasoline is crazy expensive there. I read the Chinese gov't is giving large Corp. incentives to get them out now as well. We don't have the EV market in the U.S. yet to have a bunch of BEV's running around with people waiting in line to plug in. Many people are just set in their ways and a BEV is really a lifestyle change. Gas is still pretty cheap here as well so for many to take the EV plunge the full incentive just isn't there as of now. In the next 10 years we will see some change though.   GM is using Cadillac to lead the BEV way like they should. They have the Cadillac BEV SUV coming out in the next year or so to challenge Tesla. Bolt and Bolt EUV were not designed to take on Tesla directly.
