    Tesla's Next Model - The Model 3 - To Include A Crossover

    • The Tesla Model 3 is to have two variants

With the Tesla Model X coming over the horizon, talk has begun about Tesla's next model, the Model 3. As we have reported previously, the Model 3 will be around the size of a BMW 3-Series, have a total range of 200 miles, and cost somewhere around $35,000. But the Wall Street Journal reports there is more to the Model 3.

JB Straubel, Tesla’s chief technical officer said at conference in Washington D.C. this past week that the Model 3 will not only come in sedan, but a crossover when its launched in 2017 (hopefully). Straubel went onto say that Tesla is hard at work on other models - but didn't go into details about what is in the pipeline.

More BS to keep everyone talking and excited by a company that is allot of talk and has not delivered yet.

It's a pragmatic goal but I worry it's too ambitious to debut both models simultaneously. This has the word 'delay' written all over it.

I'd almost think having the crossover come first would be a better idea, as it'll probably garner more pre-orders and sales than the sedan.

With the track record of getting ONE model out close to the initial intro date, I would agree with Buzz; 2 at once is likely too tall an order for Tesla.

However, given the 2-3 year delay on the Model 3, perhaps they pull it off this time.

It really depends on the type of crossover they try and build.  If it is just a glorified tall wagon like the X3 or Mercedes GLC, then there is likely little extra development time to it at all.   Make it a long roof, change the suspension geometry, 95% of the interior would carry over especially if it is a two row, same power train.

Hyundai has a major revamp of its crossover lineup on the horizon. Speaking with Automotive News, Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski outlined plans to meet the current demand of crossovers for the U.S.
Beginning with their current crossover lineup, the Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport will grow in size and separate from one another. The Santa Fe will grow into an eight-seat crossover, and the Sport will get a name change along with a new design to make it more rugged. The Tuscon will grow as well but will not get a major change in its mission.
Hyundai will also be introducing a new B-segment crossover in 2018 to compete with the likes of the Honda HR-V, Jeep Renegade, and Mazda CX-3. Further down the road, a subcompact crossover will be introduced.

Ford will be debuting the redesigned EcoSport subcompact crossover next week in Los Angeles. This information was revealed by rapper DJ Khaled last night on Snapchat who would be helping out with the introduction.
“Monday I’m introducing the Ford EcoSport. It’s going to be a world premiere with the new Ford EcoSport,” said Khaled in the video.
A Ford spokeman comfirmed to Automotive News that they would be showing the EcoSport next week, but didn't say anything about a possible sales date.
The EcoSport is Ford's entrant in the growing subcompact crossover class. The crossover has been sold around the world since the introduction of the second-generation model back in 2013. Former CEO Alan Mulally said that the EcoSport would eventually come to the U.S.

Tesla / Solarcity merger, Brilliant or Disaster?

Tesla announced their intent to buy SolarCity and some screamed the sky is falling. Tesla moves forward with offering a complete home solution of Solar panels, battery bank and 220V charging for your Tesla and believes they have the future tied up in a single one stop shopping solution that beats all the other Auto OEMS.

The merger final vote by Solarcity shareholders is scheduled for Nov 17th 2016. Yet with this deal not done yet, there are many that have divided into two camps, those that think this is brilliant such as reported by Barron's yesterday that ISS one of the largest outside analyst groups that advises shareholders on mergers gave it's blessing to what they believe is an outstanding tie up of two companies that can maximize return on investments. Barron's believes that Tesla has addressed all the concerns that allow for a successful merger of the two companies and a maximizing of complementary products.
      Barron's Story
One CNBC story feels that this merger might even be a little late. They agree that Solarcity will provide about $1 Billion next year in revenue to the new merged company and add about $500 million in cash to the Tesla corporation over the next 3 years.

Then you have the latest story also from CNBC where a different analyst believes this is nothing but one large mistake and that is due to what he sees as an impossible return on the investment. Yet even with that he also points out to strong supporters such as Ron Baron who ownes 1.5 million shares that see a 30 to 50 times return on the stock due to the merger.

Yet with all this,  “Playing Amish Paradise in my Tesla,” Musk shared with his 5.8 million Twitter followers on Sunday we have the man himself seeing a much simpler life for us all in the new EV world.

So what is your thoughts on this whole merger and the new EV world Musk sees for us all?
