As the Diesel Emits: EPA Gives the Go-Ahead for Volkswagen To Sell Repaired TDI Models

Can Volkswagen interest you in a fixed TDI?

More good news for Volkswagen as the EPA has finally given the ok for the company to start selling repaired TDI vehicles. Bloomberg has learned from Volkswagen Group of America spokeswoman Jeannine Ginivan that dealers can sell TDI models from the 2015 model year once they have been updated with new software. The fix will also include new hardware for the diesel engine, but dealers don't have to wait for the parts to come in early next year.

"We are still finalizing the details of this program and will provide more information on its implementation at the appropriate time,” said Ginivan.

It should be noted this is only a symbolic step as only 67,000 vehicles are eligible for this - 12,000 of which are currently sitting on dealer lots. The big question is whether or not anyone is interested in buying a Volkswagen TDI vehicle considering all of the trouble it has brought.

PASS, I bet they end up having to deep discount them and then only hard core diesel fans will then buy.

Gonna be very hard to sell in Washington as the state has termed these auto's as non-compliant and as such you have to pay an extra fee yearly to drive them. Nothing like being nailed hundreds of dollars to drive a polluting auto. I doubt they will be around here as our tabs are already expensive.

We've got multiple deposits on just about every remaining new 2015 we have. It's going to be nuts seeing how sales of these things go.

I think they will sell pretty quickly.

    • Canadians are pissed with this and this is breaking news... Jeep will sell all the Jeeps they can in Canada as Canadians love their Jeeps. Just like other folk in the world. But...this makes for an interesting negotiation between Trump and Carney. Carney prefers negotiations over retaliations.   There is an offer on the table for nixing Canadian tariffs on Chinese EVs.   Why did I say negotiations to be interesting with Trump? Because Jeep leaving Canada, that does not leave too much enthusiasm for us Canadians to start thinking about our Canadian auto industry...saving it...as if GM and Ford do the same, there is no Canadian auto industry to be saved...so...there would ONLY BE ONE OPTION...to save the Canadian auto industry. And that would be to go to China... And if we go to China and let Chinese EVs not only to be sold here, but to be built here as well...Trump will need to comprehend that Detroit's...the US' auto industry... will be no more.   Canada has always pivoted AWAY from the US since March when Trump started threatening Canada. This is just another area where Canada just pivots away from the US.   There is something that I had to read in school... no man is an island? I cant remember the details but yeah...
