Honda Civics are generally respected as reliable transportation, and aren't supposed to be prone to things like, say, wheels falling off. But that's the reason Honda is recalling more than 182,000 of them made in 2006-2007. Honda says the trouble comes from a leaky O-ring in the wheel speed sensor. Water could damage the wheel bearing, which could result in one of the four wheels falling off, "possibly resulting in a crash." Ya think? Owners of the affected Civics can expect a note in the mail from Honda, offering to fix the problem and replace any damaged parts. You can read the full recall notice from NHTSA.gov after the jump. Thanks for the tip, Herb! [source: The…

http://www.mph-online.com/web/news/00159 The Accord has always enjoyed robust sales, defining itself as one of the key players in the midsized market. In current form, it's powertrain is widely accepted as a benchmark of the industry for refinement, hp, and gas mileage--hitting high marks in all three. What's been the buzz in the last 12 months? Hybrids. The Prius has won several awards and despite questions about their overall gas benefit, you'll endlessly hear journalists point out who has them and who hasn't. So what happens when you combine one of America's darlings with hybrid technology? Ka-ching. A fairly large (for Honda) dealer i…

  9. As enthusiasts, we sometimes make the mistake of referring to Honda as a car company. Honda started out as a motorcycle manufacturer, and now makes everything from generators to IRL engines to robots. The Japanese automaker has produced a series of short films to give the rest of the world a better idea of what it's all about. There are three videos so far, and the latest of these short documentary-style productions is about Honda's unique view of failure. The video, titled "Failure: The Secret to Success," provides insight into the thought process of company founder Soichiro Honda, and how he viewed failure as a means to winning. It also shows how much Honda, a s…

  11. By Kathy Jackson Automotive News / August 29, 2005 http://www.autonews.com/article.cms?articleId=54329 As gasoline prices flirted with $3 per gallon, Honda CEO Takeo Fukui surprised reporters in Tokyo this month when he said the company was looking at its first V-8. A new V-8 while gasoline prices reach record highs? Yes, Honda is finally hedging its bet on fuel-efficient four- and six-cylinder engines. The company is turning its attention to vehicles it purposely has ceded to the competition: big SUVs and pickups with V-8s. Honda's aversion to V-8 trucks has cost it some business. But its contrarian tradition of environmentally conscious engin…
