Edmunds Evaluation: 2006 Chevy Malibu SS

The real question is whether the 2006 Malibu SS sedan is worthy of wearing those double-S badges. Like SS cars of the past, the 2006 Malibu SS sticks to a proven formula: Start with an affordable, high-volume car, and add mild suspension tweaks, special wheels and tires, a little extra motor (OK, a lot of motor if you're old enough to remember 409 Impalas and 396 Novas) and top the whole thing off with some exterior styling cues to set it apart from the grocery-getters and rental cars.

Read "Hits the numbers" @ Edmunds

I just read this (and was about to post it...:() and I have to agree with their conclusion - calling this a Malibu LTZ while giving the SS a little more (5-spd auto/optional stick, turbo'd 3.9l, more neat trim inside) would've been appropriate.

Not a bad write up, really. I can't say I disagree with any of the points. The SS interior is quite an improvement over the base car. Looks quite sharp in the two tone black/dark grey.

Naturally, purists will dismiss the FWD, but I think this article does justice to the realities of the 21st century and $3 a gallon gas.

As I've said many times before, the price difference shouldn't be made light of. When financing advantages are added to the mix, the Malibu in any dress, is 3-5 thousand less than a comparably equipped Accord or Camry.

it's a contender, other than the normal tranny cog quables and the interior....

love it in the dark blue :)

agreed. it still would be a better presentation if it had the 3.6 and 6 speed.
