Words that remind you of something else

Recommended Posts

Anyone else with me on this? You hear or say or read a word ... and it reminds you of something unrelated?

Example:

The word "argue" makes me hungry. Why? Because it reminds me of "barbecue".

OK ... so, maybe I didn't explain it very well ... kinda hard to explain, really. Could be a word or a phrase that, every time you hear it, makes you think of something else.... Or, perhaps, it's a word or phrase you savor ... that you love hearing.

And, yes, it could be sights or sounds that trigger thoughts of something else, too ;).

*shrugs*

Let's try these examples:

I'm not a Detroit Pistons fan, but "The Palace of Auburn Hills" just has a certain ring to it ... to me, anyway.

Or ... "Briley Parkway", a stretch of roadway in Nashville TN, has a certain ring to it for me....

*sighs*

Yeah, I know ... sense is not being made. Oh, well ... basically, just words or phrases or associations that stick with you whenever you hear 'em ... he he.

Since I am bilingual there are a few words in the english language that

remind me of random words in Slovakian & in some cases vice-versa.

In Slovakian the word for skyscraper is downright scarry sounding.

The word "suguaro" (as in the cactus) reminds me of a tropical drink for some reason.

I can see that ...

Course, for some reason, it also makes me think of sangria.....

I can't think of anything off-hand, but there are some words that trigger an entirely irrelevant thought process in my head.

I was watching some sort of psychological video on the subject once. They gave the example that if a kid in the midst of puberty were to go to a pizza shop and an attractive woman sold him pizza, he would then associate "pizza" with sex.

It's things like that. Funny how our brains work, isn't it?

Oh my.....

It is funny how the brains works ... but, I'm not sure I ever made that type of association.

*pauses*

Well ... maybe ;).
