2012 Buick LaCrosse gets rated

Featured Replies

Just checked out the order guide and it looks like the new 3.6L will be rated at 303 hp [226.04 kW] @ 6800 and Torque 264 lb-ft. [356.40 N-m] @ 5300 for the front wheel drive model--a nice bump over its predecessor. The AWD model is still listed as TBD. Might be a fuel economy jump as well. The same engine and transmission setup in the Impala is rated 18/30 city/highway.

And I just noticed the 2.4L with eAssist only has a 15.7 gallon tank... was hoping they'd stay with the normal 18 gallon (19 on AWD) tanks and have a long range.

The E-assist LaCrosse also loses trunk space from it's 13.3 cu. ft. to only 10.9 and the final drive ratio drops to a 2.64:1 to help achieve the highway figure of 37 MPG. On the good news side of the equation alloy wheels are finally std and both V6 and 4 cylinder e-assist will have the same base price.

While it is unfortunate that the eAssist models have smaller gas tanks, that is the point with a gas-electric hybrid. I doubt that a Prius's gas tank is actually as large as a Corolla's, for example.

You know, it's my own fault for my reaction--my brain kept thinking the 2.4L gets 30mpg, but didn't factor in the fuel economy of the 2.4L with eAssist... getting 37mpg hwy with a 15.7 gallon tank actually does leave for a nice range in the car.

That is an understandable error. Personally, I would go for the V6 model instead. I am not sure (other than 37mpg) what the benefits are for getting the eAssist trim level.

That's pretty much it. You can get the 2.4L with eAssist on the CX and CXL (the CXS is available exclusively with the 3.6L). I think the new 3.6L will make the car have a nice bit of punch.. not that the one before was lacking.
