FORD U.S. FEBRUARY RETAIL SALES DRIVEN BY STRONG DEMAND FOR F-SERIES, TRANSIT, EXPLORER AND MUSTANG

  • F-Series, America’s best-selling truck, posts retail sales increases of 7 percent – driven by all-new F-150; Transit drives 30 percent increase in Ford van sales versus year-ago

  • Explorer sales increase 32 percent in February – best in 9 years; Mustang sales up 32 percent, for best performance since 2007

  • Lincoln February retail sales results up 3 percent

  • Ford Motor Company U.S. sales of 180,383 vehicles for February represent a 2 percent decline compared to a year ago

DEARBORN, Mich., March 3, 2015 – Ford Motor Company U.S. sales totaled 180,383 vehicles in February, down 2 percent from a year ago.

F-Series retail sales increased 7 percent, as the all-new F-150 remains one of Ford’s fastest-turning vehicles on dealer lots. The training of employees in the new manufacturing process at Kansas City Assembly Plant – the second plant building the new F-150 – is now under way, with production scheduled to begin this month, as planned.

“Strong customer demand for the all-new F-150 drove strong February F-Series retail sales results in February,” said Mark LaNeve, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “The all-new F-150 continues to be the hottest vehicles on dealer lots, turning more than four times faster than the industry’s overall full-size pickup segment.”

Transit drove a 30 percent increase in total Ford van sales of 13,936 vehicles for the month, including E-Series and Transit Connect. This marks Ford’s best February van sales performance since 2007.

Explorer sales of 17,027 vehicles were up 32 percent, marking the SUV’s best February sales results since 2006.

Mustang sales increased 32 percent with 8,454 vehicles sold – representing its best February sales since 2007 and making it the best-selling sports car in America since the launch of the all-new model last fall.

Lincoln retail sales increased 3 percent versus last year. Lincoln MKC continues to build momentum for the luxury brand, along with Navigator, which posted a 96 percent sales increase.

Lincoln up three percent and Cadillac down like twelve....seems highly irrational, but hey, I just post here....

The Ford Fusion will be going away in due course as part of the company's plan to put more focus on utility vehicles and trucks. But that doesn't mean the Fusion name will heading to the trash bin.
Bloomberg has learned from sources that Ford is planning to move the Fusion name to a new wagon that will compete with the Subaru Outback. The new model will also use the same mechanical underpinnings as the current Fusion - leading us to believe that it will be some version of the Mondeo wagon sold in Europe. Ford spokesman Mike Levine declined to comment on the new model, but did say the Fusion name would continue "because of its awareness, positive imagery and value with consumers.”
Ford needs a way to keep their current sedan buyers returning their showroom after the Fusion sedan drops out. Analysis done by Kelly Blue Book revealed the less than half of Fusion owners are loyal to the brand. KBB also found that the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 were the most popular SUV models that Fusion owners would consider.
“Ford has a hard time moving people from their cars to SUVs,” said Michelle Krebs, a senior analyst with Autotrader.

Subaru has been on a roll in the U.S. with 79 months of steady month-over-month growth. But Subaru wants to spread that success to other markets and has a new five-year to try an achieve this.
Today in Tokyo, Newly appointed Subaru President Tomomi Nakamura unveiled the plan known as STEP - speed, trust, engagement, and peace of mind.
"The automotive industry is now in a tumultuous time. Subaru’s fast growth in recent years has come to highlight our challenges. The question is how we, as a small-scale company, will be able to survive in this big-changing area," said Nakamura.
Subaru wants to increase global sales from the 1.1 million vehicles it expects to sell in the current fiscal year to 1.3 million vehicles in the fiscal year on March 31, 2026. To do this, Subaru is planning to launch a number of new products including a hybrid and a "global strategic SUV" in the early 2020s. Furthermore, Subaru will evolving their "Dynamic X Solid design language into a "bolder" expression" and "enhancing sporty models."
On the technology front, Subaru is planning to offer Level 2 autonomous capability (i.e. Cadillac Super Cruise and Tesla's Autopilot) around 2020 and higher levels by 2024. It is also planning to offer some sort of connectivity in "80 percent of new vehicles in major markets" by 2022.
STEP will also be focusing on regaining trust in Subaru's home market. Last year, Subaru admitted that it had uncertified workers carrying out tests on new cars for Japan for decades. Early this year, the scandal got worse as Subaru revealed that inspectors falsified fuel economy and emission data. It led Japan's transportation ministry to reprimand Subaru and 417,288 vehicles to be recalled in the country.

Ford's latest ST model, the 2019 Edge ST will be arriving at dealers later this summer with a base price of $43,350 (including destination). According to CarsDirect, the ST is $1,585 more expensive than the Edge Sport it replaces. But you're getting more car for the money.
To begin, the Edge ST has a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 producing 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. The Sport's 2.7L EcoBoost only produced 315 hp and 350 lb-ft. There's also a new eight-speed automatic with rev-matching, retuned suspension, and a more aggressive body kit.
An optional Performance Brake Package that brings forth larger brake rotors and red calipers will add $2,695 to the base price. But as CarsDirect notes, you'll need to add Equipment Group 401A to get the brake package. 401A includes a number of comfort and convenience features such as heated and ventilated front seats; 180-degree camera, hands-free liftgate, navigation, and Ford's CoPilot+ suite of driver aids for an additional $5,585.
