Any update from Ford on fixing this right rather than taking away a feature you paid for?

Seems Ford (Found on Road Dead) or (Fix and Repair Daily) is becoming the leading recall company.

https://driving.ca/features/safety/ford-recalls-2025-issue-problem-fix

Unfortunately, no.

I don't even really know who to reach out to anymore. I've reached out to Lincoln and the NHTSA. The NHTSA just says "This is what Lincoln and the NHTSA have agreed upon as a fix". Lincoln just makes a note and claims to have filed a report with the NHTSA over this issue.

@Drew Dowdell, by chance, do you have a Lincoln rep I could reach out to over this matter?

That just sucks in so many ways and is another reason that I would not buy from them. Like GM which has choosen to go against customer choice, I have left another American Company for one that supports choice.

I hope Lincoln wakes up to the fact that unplugging a feature is not a fix. Long term it will cost them imho.

Thank you for the update on this.

Almost my entire friend group(5/8 closest male friends) has had a GTI at some point. From Mk3 to Mk7's. They've all loved them. One recently bought and still owns his mk7 and the other swapped it out got a Jetta GLI. They aren't bulletproof though. I believe they all had some issues at some point. I believe two had DSG transmission issues that were quiet expensive to repair, though not catastrophic. This was, ironically, after VW's recommended trans service interval.

I really have a sot spot for hot hatches. In another life, I would have bought a Focus RS.

You and I both, brother. I just love that class of vehicle. They're sporty, fun, practical, and not (typically) all that expensive to own/operate. They're just all around great vehicles.

I'd like to say that one day I'll own a Focus RS, too. But, I know damn well I likely won't buy one. By the time I'm in a position to buy an extra car or I no longer need the extra space for a family of 4, I'd be getting something with 2 doors and a V8 anyway.

Or my friend, like me, you will have to spend that money on your kids education! That is why my conversion of my 1994 GMC Suburban never happened and I eventually sold it as I am past the project phase and now into the Grandkids phase.

Good luck, the future is going to be an interesting mixture I think over the next two decades.

I had a recall done yesterday on my Navigator. The recall was to eliminate the risk of something catching fire due to the under-mirror lighting. The fix was to simply unplug the lights and I lose the feature.

This seems pretty ridiculous, right? Like, there wasn't an actual fix. I just lost something I paid for.

I had a loaner new Escape for the day though. It was..uhhh...okay...

i believe something causes a possible short, which causes the fire. It already was an LED bulb under the mirror. I'm actively reaching out to Lincoln/Ford about it though, because I think it's ridiculous to just lose a feature due to a recall. I though recalls FIXED problems.

Right?!? I'm hoping it's just a temp fix until they have an actual fix. Losing something on a vehicle for a recall is absurd, IMO.

So, unfortunately no, especially on a vehicle that age... and there is precedent for it. The most you can hope for is some sort of Visa gift card for a very modest amount IF you kick up enough stink with Lincoln Customer Service.

Back in the mid-2000s, the Buick Lucerne and the Cadillac DTS had heated washer fluid. There was an initial fix to move the system to a larger fuse, but the systems still were shorting out and causing fires. The supplier ended up going into bankruptcy over it.  The recall was to disconnect the system and owners received a $100 gift card.

That's while the cars were still in production, so I can't imagine Lincoln doing much for yours now.

A political video, but pay attention to the Boeing Part. The easiest way for countries to strike back at the US is to buy Airbus rather than Boeing. The only thing keeping Boeing in the game right now seems to be the huge backlog that Airbus has for planes.

Wonder how in the automotive sense a decline in US manufacturing, which seems inevitable, will affect the auto industry. Can't be good.

I understand the age and whatnot. I just think the "fix" itself is total BS. I don't think anybody should lose a feature they paid for over a recall. The recall is admitting they screwed up somewhere whether it's design or manufacturing.

I'll attempt to make a bigger stink with Lincoln over this.

This is so true and just not on auto's, the number of parts and other product piling up at ports due to people / companies not wanting to pay tariffs is crazy. Seattle/Tacoma/Everett Ports has a ton of product sitting in container's that companies are not willing to pay tariffs on so now it is just sitting there.

Small businesses are being hurt and forced to close due to the Tariffs. My sister's appliance company is hurting as they usually have credit, but the company that imports the parts for appliance repairs went to a cash up front from all purchase and have stated they have to pay up front from the companies in China so no more credit, pay at the end of the month, now it is pay as you go. So they are having customers pay up front.

The shop I have used, has also told me that the cost of parts is changing almost daily and they have to pay in advance for auto parts. Consumers are going to be hurting big time.

We are not making America Great Again, America is being destroyed Again just like in the 1930's due to ignorant people in power.

WIndows 11 ...

Now that I have (your, someone's) attention, I have a question or two.

I'm still running Windows 10 and it has been great.  I can speak for my laptop, but haven't used my HP tower in a good while.  Support for Windows 10 goes away in mid-October of this year.

I have held back on converting because, first and foremost, I heard it is a lot more possessive and restrictive of what you can do with it ... by that, I mean it pushes you into more proprietary sites and options rather than letting you choose.  It's bossy, in a way.* To me, that sounds like a bad thing more than a good thing.

The other is that it needs 40GB of RAM free at the moment to do the installation.  I'm going to have to make some room.

Can I get some input (in wording better suited for a general user) on the concerns voiced in the last 2 paragraphs?

Thank you.

* I'm not the sort of person to be "whipped," so that would be a problem ... LOL

Windows 11 has pro's and Con's but then what version of windows did not. Overall, I have NOT seen any possessive or restrictive issues with what you can do with Windows 11.

Now one thing to be aware is that 11 does have more hardware requirements, so it is possible that if you try to update your current Win10 setup, it could come back and say I cannot until you get a compatible CPU or Graphics card, etc.

I would double check your system against the requirements, does not make any sense to spend hours attempting to upgrade if your system will not truly support it.

Windows 11 Specs and System Requirements | Microsoft Windows

I have a Maxed out with SSD drives Lenovo Laptop that is fast and rocks but does not pass the hardware check so it cannot upgrade to Win11, so it will stay at Win10 since it works just fine.

Ignore the threats about everything as it is Microsoft's attempt to get you to spend money on hardware and new Win11 when you really do not have too.

Idiot47 is bragging about his Japan Trade Deal and yet we go from 10% tariffs to 15% tariffs as Japan avoids the 25% tariff Idiot47 threatened and yet his win is an increase in taxation against Americans having to pay more for the Auto's they will export to the US.

So we get Japan made auto's with 15% tariffs and our own auto companies have to pay 25% for parts / autos from Canada and Mexico and us Americans have to pay 15% tariff on anything from Japan versus the original 10% that was in place. Plus Idiot47 says Japan will open up their market to our US autos.

This one is a rat bastard to change. There isn't enough clearance to get the housing out because you bump the thermostat housing. I have to almost take the carb off (4 bolts plus choke heater) to slide it back enough to remove the fuel filter housing.  I had to replace the housing because the threads were damaged on the old one and I needed new gaskets. The whole kit was like $18.

Continuing on with the Windows 11 question.

When I run a scan, as you know, the file paths flash by you with rapid speed and they move back and forth between things specific to the hardware and its programs and personal files such as documents, spreadsheets, and photos ... back and forth, back and forth ...

I am able to see 2 paths that you tech guys may understand better than I do.  These also flicker on both and forth:

1.

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ .... (varying #s and @s) ...\Metada\Windows11.0 ...

2.

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ .... (varying #s and @s) ...\Package_for_RollupFix~ ...

Since these flicker back and forth during the scan, I wonder what they mean.

Important item:  I don't remember if it was on my tower or on the laptop I'm asking about, but I think I almost let the Windows 11 upgrade get rolling by a click of the mouse, but cancelled it and/or shut down the computer.

Does item 1 mean that some files from the update, that need not be here, are sitting on my drives and taking up space when I'm not on 11 yet?

In what folder on an HP product would I find if there are any Windows 11 files prematurely sitting there?

Thanks.  It would help to know.

That's where your Windows Updates are being stored. If you're going from 10 to 11, Windows just treats that like a really huge Windows update.
