February Car Spotting Thread

Recommended Posts

Was a cold, sunny morning in Cleveland...saw a new VW Beetle Dune in a delicious mustard color.   Also a blue w/ white stripes current Mustang Shelby GT350 covered in slush and road spray, bombing along.. saw a white '91-ish Grand Prix GTP the other night,  lots of rust...

Went 2 hours upcountry into the PA mountains yesterday to take advantage of a major award (my mom won a $250 shopping spree in a puzzle contest).  It's a harder life for vehicles up there, shirley.  A last-gen Century was in the parking lot... rocker panels completely gone from rust, but it was clearly still being driven daily.  Also sawr a brand new, red Kia Niro Touring, fresh off the boat at a local dealership.  A unique and sharp looking vehicle in person.

It is interesting to notice the car mix differences in the Cleveland area vs Phoenix area....I see a lot more domestics in general, and a lot more Kias...inexplicably.   Lots of Honda products, which makes sense as Honda has a long history in Ohio.   And rust--even on 5-10 year old cars, something I didn't see in the desert void (paint fade and oxidation is the thing there).    I see the usual silver, gray or black Audi, BMW, M-B, Lexus and Infiniti models in the ritzier areas, just as I did in Scottsdale.

'73 Pontiac Ventura hatchback in what I believe to be factory orange, owner brought it in to us for an estimate... some rude individual keyed it.  I didn't write it, but I had to take a look.  It was a decent weekend driver, not a show winner, which makes it more perplexing that someone would think it was worth it to mar it up like that.

Late '80s Dodge ram shortbed, mottled & fading yellows, minor rust, no tailgate, chain perhaps zip-tied to hitch hole in bumper and dangling about 1 inch from road, cobbled together rack in the front of the bed with the spare sitting vertical, some tie-down straps, jumper cables- his whole 'road service' collection, and the topper: crudely hand-cut 'Rat Fink' logo spray-painted in black on the doors.
