  1. Alright, well I personally think the quota should be much higher...but frankly it's YOUR rep and those of a handful of other posters who regularly make particularly insightful posts that will be held back...
  2. OK, I keep being told I've reached my quota for POSITIVE feedback. Really? We're going to limit POSITIVE feedback? C'mon now...
  3. The 9-5 also has a lot of really thoughtful features, like an extendable seat cushion for long-legged drivers whose knees would otherwise be unsupported by a shorter seat cushion. Conversely, shorter drivers don't have to worry about a seat cushion that extends too far. The glove box is also refrigerated, so that one can transport, say, a box of chocolate without worrying about melting.
  4. I just think it's generally a bad idea to go to insurance unless absolutely necessary. Getting the part repainted, even professionally, most certainly isn't worth the cost of the deductible + rise in insurance premiums.
  5. Whyyyyyyyyyyy are you going to insurance? Go to your dealership and buy a $50 thing of touch-up paint and apply it to the area. Or get a bumper sticker to cover it up.
  6. Quick impressions: Regal = Fantastic style/package/estimated price 9-5 = f@#king incredible. Hope Spyker buys SAAB...the new 9-5 cannot go to waste. CTS coupe = Great car, but why no rear armrest? Unacceptable for a $40k+ luxury car, especially since it has a rear console.
  7. Van Halen cover? By whom?
  8. AH! I see a little thing that just says in text "Currently viewing all posts. Change threshold?" But it isn't a menu, at least not prior to clicking on it. Yeah, it just isn't a menu until you click on it.
  9. Still not seeing that menu anywhere in a thread...
  10. It says I don't have permission to view your attachment, and I see no view threshold indicator at the bottom of the thread...
  11. I don't hate anyone. There are two posters who seem to have an active vendetta against me; since any response whatsoever to their posts just seems to provoke them, I have them on ignore and don't read their posts unless the discussion downthread indicates they were unusually insightful that day. Helps with the civility.
  12. Well, I've blocked a few users in the past who just annoyed me to no end. In the conversation, there is a small bar where the blocked post would be, and if I want to read it because it's referenced below, I can click on the link and restore the post for that viewing session. Otherwise, the user and their caustic attitude is blocked. I love it.
  13. I like his resume. I like the JDP history. This is good news.
  14. How many utes competed?
  15. Well why shut it down in retrospect if it didn't violate any of the rules? That makes no sense. Again, it made fun of GM's institutionalized belief that taking a clay model Chevy and using a fork to etch in ribbing along the sides suddenly made it a Pontiac. And yes, GM itself had admitted to doing that since the early 1980s. I'm not sure what you are even referring to about "$h!ting on a brand when it needed support the most" since the brand was canceled, the decision had been a long time coming, and it's a marketing label. So many people on this site seem to forget that this isn't the 1960s and all of these divisions are little mini-companies within the corporate umbrella--they aren't, and haven't been for decades. Of course we haven't. GM created Saturn in the 1980s, so who's to say they won't create/recreate another brand in the future? Who's to say there won't be a "Pontiac" edition for certain sports cars down the line? Pontiac will most likely go away, and after a period of time could be reintroduced. Either way, the legacy of the GOOD Pontiacs of the past aren't tarnished in any way, shape or form. I have it on pretty good authority when we started hemorrhaging members it was because of something else. Why? Because I asked those members leaving. They were more put off by the negativity of certain members TOWARD GM AS A WHOLE for shuttering Pontiac, more-so than anything else. See, many of them were still GM fans, and every time they came to the site all they saw was bitching and negativity about how GM sucked, was irredeemable, worthless, etc. Bingo. All counts. I agree the whole episode negatively impacted membership, especially with new threads being created on a semi-daily basis with morose, doom-and-gloom rants about how GM is dead, shatters dreams, tortures puppies, etc. But to blame ONE THREAD that was only active for a few days as the sole cause of membership decline? That's preposterous. I think the progressively unhinged rants had a far greater impact than a silly thread in the Lounge. Exactly. Penske couln't even get it. GM probably has some plan to continue capitalizing on Pontiac in some way down the line; at the very least they retain the rights to the Matchbox miniatures and other merchandising rights.

    &*^%$!!!

There are also sites like the Hype Machine that can get you free mp3s that are legal, and there are also "download embedded"-type Firefox extensions as well. The Hype Machine is great for new music, since its search aggregates music industry blogs, so you can be ahead of the curve.
  17. Cool story, bro. Still doesn't mitigate the punchline in the least.
  18. Exactly. So many people on here were very vocal about their distaste for Saturn, blaming it, and not GM, for the poor product decisions that led to the cancellation of Oldsmobile and Pontiac. As for why the response to Oldsmobile's cancellation was different than that of Pontiac on this site, well one only needs to look at what was going on. Oldsmobile was producing its best vehicles in decades and winning rave reviews in the process, particularly with the Aurora and Intrigue, and their unique division engines (Shortstar, Aurora V8). Fast forward to 2009, and Pontiac has...what? The G8. What else was worth talking about? I really liked the G8, but the rest of the lineup was junk, and not only that, but junk left out on the vine to wither. Malibu was redesigned, but G6 never received any updates to correct the easily-correctable interior foibles. Torrent was a blatant rebadge of the Equinox, itself not that great. G3? Solstice was pretty cool, but the interior again wasn't up to industry standards and it was the least practical of its competitors in terms of cargo/trunk space and interior volume. Again, the point of the EXCITEMENT!!!! thread was to point out the absurdity of the GM product planners that taking a boring, lackluster Chevrolet/Oldsmobile/Saturn and adding ribbed cladding and other over-the-top superficial styling "enhancements" made it it "sporty," "performance" and "Pontiac." G8 wasn't absurd, but it was one car, and it came way too late.
  19. Excuse me? Pontiac wasn't being mocked. GM and their utter disregard for the brand was what was being mocked, and with that the decision to shutter a brand that had been left out to dry for so long. If you couldn't see that at the time, or now, then I just can't help you. This is a GM fan site; you got angry over a thread? And that thread angered you more than any of the other things we've collectively experienced on this site? Wow.

Dude, you need to learn some computer skills. ETA: :sigh: Public Service Announcement: Torrents are great for transmitting viruses. If anyone has a problem with viruses and uses torrents, consider that as a possible link. NOT SAYING ANYONE DOWNLOADS ILLEGALLY, but just as an FYI...
  21. Heh. That usage of "merge" goes back to that Melanie Griffith flick Working Girl. Definitely overlooked that DE the first time...
  22. Don't worry, I won't...but only because the last guy that got crucified gained a fanatical cult following.
  23. "Mr. Oliver, what you need is a 12 Step program, not a "merger," especially since there is little to nothing to "merge." What could we possibly stand to gain from this, other than the liability of having a known alcoholic on staff?"
  24. Awesome! Perfect! I'll be going to LAIAS this weekend and will have full review soon.
  25. Of course, but the general consensus points in that direction. It certainly had broader appeal than the "adsd" thread of 4-5 years ago in the mod forums.
