  1. My concern with RAID is the added complexity, and the overall finickyness. I have considered 'short-stroking' a regular 7200RPM drive, so that might be a possibility.
  2. Oh yeah, I totally forgot about 890FX. Now you've made me sad . SSD prices are through the roof still, so I figure I'd grab a Raptor on sale or for cheap and use that until I find a good SSD for a good price. Then, the Raptor can just be for page file use, or storage. There's a dude on a hardware site who's hocking his, but so far no takers, so I'm hoping he lowers the price, and then I'll jump in.
  3. I've seen the face of God, and it is the MSI 790FX-GD70. I also got the PSU too, and snagged me a 4870 locally for cheap, so now all I need is a case, a couple sticks of RAM and a WD Raptor and I'll be getting set on fire by DF in Team Fortress 2 in no time!

Dude, you know what the likely culprit is. Just bite the bullet, do another reformat and then everything should be hunky-dory. A new PC doesn't really solve anything, unless yours is unbearably slow and you need the upgrade.

Knew it! I'm assuming this Adobe Photoshop was acquired through a 'two click discount' right? That's why you gotta scan your stuff. I had a gut feeling those DVD's were the culprit.

By the looks of it, this particular program is installed through clicking on those dumb ads that say your computer has viruses, or from illegitimate codecs. Have you downloaded any codec's for running certain files recently, or do you have any on those DVD'S? It may also be because you want to view something on a website that requires a plugin codec, which is actually just a way to get you to download the virus. From Wikipedia: PHSDL - Project Honeypot Spam Domains List[4] tracks and catalogues Zlob spam Domains. Some of the domains on the list are redirects to porn sites and various video watching sites that show a number of inline videos. Clicking on the video to play activates a request to download an ActiveX codec which is malware. It prevents the user from closing the browser in the usual manner. Other variants of Zlob Trojan installation are in the form of computer scan that comes as a Java cab.[5] Usually, people get this stuff from browsing porn. I'm not saying you are, though. But you may be looking, or wanting to look at videos that require these false codecs.
  8. The box seems like it's actually useful as opposed to the Sport-Trac. I'd totally dig a stick with the bigger diesel! We might not get it up in Canada, but they've got a lot of nerve for naming it after the snow monster that is responsible for eating hapless Canadians!
  9. That's still not a lot in the scheme of things. The world consumes about 85 1/2 million barrels of oil a day, which is actually slightly higher than production. Forecasts for late next decade suggest 120 million barrels per day could be the norm. So even a few billion barrels is nothing to big to cheer about. Plus, the costs will be huge, so they'll require very high oil prices in order for the extraction to be financially feasible.
  10. That'll be one hell of an expensive venture to develop before even the first barrel is filled.
  11. This topic is now about hats.
  12. LOL CONGRESS!
  13. I think most Americans would think of their level 7 Charmander if they read or hear the word 'Viridian' so it's not very effective. However, 'silver' would be super effective.
  14. Not to worry! I'm working on the Spinning Advice Rick and it should finally be done in about eight weeks!
  15. DF showed it to me a while ago, and wanted me to use it as my avatar. And since the awesomeness was too much for just one individual to contain, he uses it. Now, I think about five or six people have it. Of course, we're always happy if more people do the Clarkson.

If you have some money, I'd explore the idea of getting an external HD. I've probably said this before, but they're incredibly handy to have because you can save all your important files on it, and if disaster strikes, you don't have to keep track of DVD's, or lose anything. All my music, schoolwork, and stuff for my business is backed up on a network drive, and it's saved my ass more times than I can count on my hands. Barring that, if you can find even a cheap SATA or IDE hard drive on Craigslist, you can install that in your PC, and have that be your place for backing up files.

Yeah, I dunno what to say. You've got music backed up, so that means you have an external hard drive or something, which is a good start. Something's weird here. I don't think you're doing anything out of the ordinary compared to the rest of us, so I'd advise maybe using Google Chrome as your main browser, and then FireFox for when you need to use extensions. Chrome is really good at keeping you out of trouble when it comes to websites with malware.

Well then that's the damndest thing. That's never happened to me, and it's not like I'm doing anything special. I can only think it's to do with a website installing some crap because of a wrong mouseclick or something.

That's really strange. Did you DL any software from possibly non-legit sources, and scan it with Avira before opening? Was Avira set to automatically update and scan on a regular basis?

3GB wouldn't cut it too well even if it had Win 7. Plus, Intel as a brand doesn't mean the CPU is fast; if it's powered by a 'Core2Duo' then you're likely in business, but if it's a 'Celeron' then stay away. As for the 'anti-virus' crapware install, did you get that through a bad webpage? Often browsers like Chrome and FireFox inhibit that stuff from working. Hopefully you weren't using IE. If you used the software we recommended one or two pages back, that shouldn't have happened. =/

What the hell? What went wrong this time? And that 300 dollar laptop would suck. Probably didn't even have a decent CPU and amount of ram. =/

That thing looks awesome, and want one real bad. I especially like the open source aspect and the fact that Google is out to take on Apple and MS in the mobile market. But up my way, data plans are killer.
  23. Beautiful scenery, and at least you didn't get any rain or snow. Crisp, sunny days are my favorite. As for your internet situation at work, have you looked into proxy's?
