you can still find a new 2005 malibu that is larger than the civic on a lot that you can buy for well under 14 grand, if economy and saving gas mileage and money is your thing. you'll pocket close to ten grand and see real world mpg at 33-38 that is not far off what hybrids are getting. and save close to ten grand. hey, just a thought for reasonable folks not consumed by image.

i don't think you can call the LS and Contour mistakes. The contour was a SIZE mistake. but drive an SVT contour and you'll wonder if there was any domestic car in that time period from about 95 to 03 or so that was a more fun car to drive. The LS was a good car they just abondoned too soon. the others are rippable, as much as any CSV or lack of a camaro. let's all join hands and sing kumbaya and mend those GM/Ford fences.

yes the 500 is a much better car than folks are giving it credot for. the first time my wife drove it she said, "holy crap this thing steers tight"

i'm beginning to think MT picked the civic mainly because it offers a hybrid. in twenty years time, they want to be able to say, 'we recognized the significnace of hybrid techonology in the auto industry before everyone else' but they had to use the test numbers for the Si to justify the selection. just got C/D. the civic didn't even crack the 10best and the civic hybrid review certainly was not stellar. not bad, but in no way gushing. and by that, i mean things besides the hybrid aspect. the civic is flawed in many areas that it doesn't justify its spot. here's one -dramatic windshield rake yields no interior benefit. pulling the base of the WS forward is only a visual feature, it does not create a larger cab. in fact, isn't the wheelbase bigger but the back seat is SMALLER? 24 grand for a hybrid civic? buy a base malibu for 16 grand, get 32-35 mpg, have more room, and save the 8 grand.

the ES is a stretched last version camry which is why i postulated the question. so likely i'm right, it is a RESKIN, although its a reskin of the ES which is a stretch/reskin of the camry. its a kevin bacon sort of thing. actually, i bet if you trace all the connections, you can tie Kevin Bacon and the Camry together SOMEHOW let's see, toyota makes both the camry and the prius, cameron Diaz drives a prius, she was in a movie with Jim Carrey (mask), who was in a movie with Jennifer Aniston (bruce almighty) who was in PICTURE PERFECT with KEVIN BACON!!!!!!!!!!! yeah, but its a hellova lot more comfy than all the old low rider cars i used to have. i can put up with some frumpy looks if it means i don't feel like i'm sitting in a bathtub. you see, when i am driving i cannot see the tall car proportions and i honestly don't care if other drivers think it looks weird. besides, many toyotas seem to be getting this same tall car look now and if toyota does it....... comfort over looks. i'll take that tradeoff.
