bmw ix BMW News: BMW iX - New Era, New EV Flagship
balthazar replied to G. David Felt's topic in BMW
Question is; is this a flagship of BEV SUVS (of which there are none at BMW), or the flagship for ALL BMW SUVs, in which case where does that leave the X7??- 65 replies

How are you supposed to know if a given automotive consideration is comfortable for you, or has good vision, or you like the sound system, or you can FIT in it, if OEMs move to primarily online sales??

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
balthazar replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
^ But that's vs. the gas F-150, correct? A non-sequitur in a comparison between the Hybrid & TurboDiesel. - - - - - I saw the Ford linked page was touting the Hybrid's range as 700 miles! That's a pretty big smack-down of a 250-300 mile range in an EV truck. -
Ford's F-150 has a HORRIBLE equipment 'linkage' system going on. Spec the 3.0L TD and try to pick certain wheels OR paint colors, and Ford kicks the diesel out & replaces it with a 5.0 V8. What the hell would the paint color have to do with the engine choice?? NICE XLT, Guard Green (you're welcome, 'blu!), 20" rims... NOPE, NO DIESEL FOR YOU!

'Benzinga' (whatever that is) is reporting the Rivian pricing this morning. Seems Rivian will initially offer a 'launch edition' of the 2 trucks, but unlike the full boat Hummer Edition One, it's not a max spec version. Equipped with a middling 300 mile range battery pack, the R1T pickup will start at a commanding $75,000, while the R1S will be $77,500. Re-using the old Ford moniker; the "Explorer" is stated to start at $67,500, whereas the swiped Dodge (nee DeSoto) moniker "Adventurer" will be $77,500. Apparently these are trim levels. Around January of 2022, 250 mile range and 400 mile range variants will be available. It's curious that the 400 mile pack wasn't part of the 'launch edition', and that will undoubtedly be many thousands more in base price. - - - - - It shouldn't be necessary to again point out, but manufacturers and pundits all in on the fantasy that EV trucks will quickly replace IC trucks that start up to $30 grand cheaper, aren't being aware of how the existing consumer market functions. At these prices, these are niche products, not mainstream. -

'iX' ... does that mean '9'? How are BMW folk going to know where this slots without a kindergarten numbering scheme? 0-60 is slow for a flagship EV; X6 does it in 4.6 already. Isn't this supposed to be noticeably quicker as an electric? The interior bits are T-A-C-K-Y! That one panel with the white lettering on what 100% looks like plastic wood is garbage. Here; '82 Merc : The denim upholstery (with the schizo stitching) ... haven't seen that since the '70s Gremlins. The 'crystal' buttons I haven't seen since the '81-83 Imperial hood ornament. it LOOKS like it should slot in around the X3 level, but because BMW is going to have to charge $75 grand for it, the loyalist (again; lacking a number) are going to be bewildered into paralysis.- 65 replies

Everything on the political front is constantly over-hyped.

Best German car ever is, of course, the KR-200.

Did more work on tach housing. Difficult staring point; tach is 3.375” dia, headlight housing is 7.75”. Getting closer tho. Prepped & primed hood springs. Also recently went over both hinge assemblies with a file; deburring & smoothing. Everything must be smooth. Going to try a phosphate bath for the assemblies instead of paint

I checked online; in a state of 9 milllion people, EA current has only 10 stations in New Jersey.

Best thing with leaves is to mow / mulch them, and let them decompose into the grass. 'Lawn vitamins'.

I realize it was the article, not a quote. But I guess you're right; I clicked. Still, how about 'looks great' or something that acknowledges her progress yet isn't utterly ridiculous. "Super sculpted" : What I saw in the article's pic:

I think it WAS a Ply-Mouth.

Jersey also: 76 and mildly breezy 2day.
-
LOL - must be "sculpted" on the INSIDE.
-
I'm confused. This is someone named Rebel Wilson. Article states she's flaunting "super sculpted abs", despite her GOAL WEIGHT target being 165 lbs. I... I don't see ANY 'sculpting'. It's from 'Woman's Health' - is that supposed to be some sort of authority on that topic??? Is this one of those examples of 'saying without any evidence' I've been hearing so frequently? The below pic is the same woman. Towering kudos to her! Rebel is the pic on the LEFT in my opinion... and "super sculpted" is on the RIGHT. Right?

Sure, tho that’s the engineering department, not Styling.

You can get a new, much more modern Mini with numerous safety features for $22K. Or you can get a fully restored vintage one for around $30K. This was stupid the moment it surpassed the latter by 15%. Yet another EV attempt that fails to grasp the consumer in their picture. A Sonic was an $18K car. Bolt is $38K. The pricing model is NOT sustainable.
-
^ LOL, that's literally the exact same bodyshell.

AN $88,000 MINI AND A/C IS OPTIONAL?!?!?!? Un-frorking-believable.

Also in line is fabricating a 'bullet' housing for the tach. There's a pic I think on page 3 of basically how it'll look, but I don't want the back of it & it's wires exposed. So I have a spare pair of rotted headlight bullets for my COE, and tho they're much larger in diameter, I'll pay around and see if I can make a 'bullet cup'. The blue Solo cup covers most of the tach when mounted, so you can see the size disparity I'm looking at.
