^ That's a pretty blatant attempt to coin a phrase. I could get behind the narrative tho, but the author instills way too much of the spoon-fed hype on the Model 3 to be taken objectively.

Commonly called 'Mansfield Bars'- as they were developed because of this accident.

Of course that 'bloaty' SUV would be 'productionized', but it's 1000 steps in the right direction. That red G concept above- I've never seen that before. That's the PERFECT balance of heritage and 21st century. Can't for the LIFE of me figure out why Daimler couldn't pull the trigger on it.

I can attest to that. Have a lead on a car that probably hundreds of people would like to own, crime related. I'd be interested in owning it, but the tow would be formidable. Mansfield car must've sat outside a while- it was only 2 years old at the acident, yet the hood has apparent rot holes in it. Strange- maybe drips from a shed roof or the like.

Only Jetta I ever drove had it; terrible ergonomically.

Average Camry buyer is 58. Naturally a more expensive camry is going to sell to even older buyers.

I assume the Rolls at the 'American Style' exhibit was U.S. built in the 14 years RR had a factory here ('21-35). - - - - -

If you look at the large pic of the front, EVERYTHING below the toyota emblem is dummy grille / solid plastic. Oh- and it's horrific: monstrously oversized with no aesthetics. The track record implies the MCE (looks @ watch) will have the fake grille 1/3rd the way up the hood & wrapping around to the front wheels. All fake, of course.

Except for some minor sub-systems, I've already done the hard engineering tho. Rear axle, rear suspension, frame modifications, fitment of later model engine/trans. Left to fabricate is exhaust, brake & fuel lines, not a problem. I think I'm closer to 'Level 5' than 9. The '71 also has more options, such as A/C- if he wants to get that back online, that's a whole nuther sub-task.

I thought I saw that area was a vent- interesting aero treatment. Always though 'thru airflow' was greatly underutilized on vehicles looking to improve their .cd.

OK, any reasoning behind your choice? The relative late-model A-Body ease of build?

OK, this is the current condition of these 2 rides. The finned wonder is my '59 Invicta, the other is my brother's '71 GTO 4-spd. I am head of him in the process: all metal work is completed and in epoxy primer, and the shell is back on the refurbished frame. Front & RR suspension is done, as is my rear axle. I also have a bunch of the new parts, and a bunch of cosmetically restored parts. My brother may or may not be done with metal repair- I think the floors still need work. Also, his frame is untouched yet, but there is a TON more repro parts available for the '71. He also has 2 lifts at his house We have an unofficial bet on which gets their car done first. Both of us work 5 or 6 days/wk most weeks, and haven't really worked on these projects in years. There's no defined 'prize' at stake. Anyone want to start a (years long) pool on the winner?

ev design EV Trucks / SUVs Designs - New Revolution of Style?
balthazar replied to G. David Felt's topic in The Lounge
Not sure if there would be other issues involved with returning to a passenger cab forward truck, such as crash worthiness. Commercial flat front COEs place the passengers notably higher than passenger vehicles. Still:- 4 replies

ev design EV Trucks / SUVs Designs - New Revolution of Style?
balthazar replied to G. David Felt's topic in The Lounge
The only thing I can realistically see happening with a competitive EV pick-up is a 'forward control' configuration where the 'engine box' space is moved rearward to the bed area. As a regular cab, the bed could be advantageously enormous, but in that 80% would have to be crew cabs, the advantage may be lost. Also, the ingress/egress on cab forward vehicles is now strange and comparatively ungainly, and the drive position over the front axle may take some degree of re-education among truck buyers. But theoretically, the shuffling of the pick-up 3-box design could create much more cargo space... tho they would have to get notably taller. I threw the below crappy depiction together in 5 minutes- wheelbase unchanged from Silverado Crew Cab short box:- 4 replies

Agreed. '08-15 was a good styling run for the Silverado. I'm not a fan in general of the '16-17s- busy. And I drive the earlier gen ('04) which I also an not generally a fan of, looks-wise. Hmm.... there must be some really good deals on a '15 about now. Going to go poke around online...

Certainly seems so- it could work for me, or could go the other way. In some quick angle-around shots, it looks like there are gills in those front fender drops- to allow airflow thru or something. Other pics have perhaps shown lights... maybe the vertical slot has both.

The front end detail- obviously it would be best to see it in person. That front fender 'drop' and the 'scoop' inboard; front fascia overall has a bewildering array of surface transitions. I like the general form & proportion, need to get the specific contours clear. It's DEFINITELY different...
