  1. Mercedes SLS comes to mind immediately. I think we're splitting hairs worrying about 3 letters, 4 letters (remember audi's 5-character alphanumerics : 5000S ?)... the point is 'words' or 'non-words'. Cadillac has a long history of 'non-word' nameplates, so the current catalog is nothing new. Series 63, Series 452, Series 60 Special ('S60S')...
  2. ^ That's the convention Cadillac needs to ignore to set itself apart. CTS sedan CTS coupe CTS convertible Works for me.
  3. Consistency is for nursery school toddlers who need num-nums @ 10:45AM & nap time precisely at 11. Adults can handle both naming conventions within the same brand.
  4. Having difficulty getting behind the above theory. No manufacturers change their BRAND name in China, do they? If a Chinese consumer can handle 'mercedes-Benz' they should be able to handle 'Fleetwood'. Or in the worst case, just use an alpha-numeric for China alone, and a name everywhere else. When Lamborghini went to China, their model was dubbed the "Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce China Limited Edition".
  5. '71 Mustang Mach 1, that period Ford pea soup green w/ black stripes, restored. '71 Mercedes SL, med blue, restored, at auction. '70 Road Runner convertible, dark green, restored, rollin'. '69 Camaro SS hardtop, dark green, restored, rollin'. '68 Corvette convert, Marina Blue, restored, rollin'. '66 Mustang convert, light blue, restored, rollin behind the RR. '65 Mustang hardtop, primer, rough project but a running 289 car. '59 Mercedes SL, red, partially restored, running, at auction. '57 Bel Air 2-dr hardtop, black, connie kit, perfect original. '55 Bel Air 2-dr sedan, white over orange, mild street rod, rollin'. '38 Ford roadster, mild custom, slammed, eggplant, very sharp, rollin'. '41 Merc coupe, green, solid runner, needed restoration, off road since 1975, at auction. I was there hoping to bid, but they started at my ceiling price and it finished off at $5700. Maybe next time.

  7. Archer & 2nd comes to mind first.
  8. Revenue streams that are 'quickly responsive to change' invite corruption via manipulation, one of the few things Gov't does on a professional level.
  9. No way in hell is Cadillac looking for 2000 units/mnth. Nor should they. Like I said, there should be 'no comment' if asked for sales goals. Cadillac is not interested in playing 'one-up' on sales numbers, nor should they. BMW & MB MUST in order to survive, hence the push into FWD appliances. If one subscribes to the theory that halo cars work downmarket to move cheap stuff, the inverse must be true; that cheap stuff will have a 'reverse halo' effect on the high end stuff. -- -- -- If Cadillac brought out a 4-dr hardtop version of the Ciel & named it "Fleetwood', that would be just about perfect IMO.
  10. I have not seen a chevy LUV (that I can recall) in like 15 years.
  11. But according to your common diatribe, that uber-sedan flagship automatically translates into increased sales of ANY AND ALL other Cadillacs AND GM products via the so-called 'halo effect', thusly lesser models selling at a profit will increase in sales & offset a possible bottom line loss on the Omega/Fleetwood. No one in the Company is looking at it in a vacuum, but as part of the brand catalog. By your math; audi is taking a huge beating on the A8 too, no? 500/mnth at a lower margin means that model had to have been cancelled years & years ago because it's costing VW hundreds of millions over a 6-yr timespan. Explain.
  12. There is FAR more money to pass thru their greasy fingers by improvements in efficiencies than sliding scales that just penalize non-EV drivers ("& the poor"). But the crank addicts like plenty of slop in their $2.5 trillion revenue stream, plus they're mostly too stupid/proud to figure out how to implement it.
  13. Cadillac didn't "parts bin" either interior of the ATS/CTS, so there's zero reason to even mention such here. Cadillac doen't care how many of these sedans it sells; Cadillac is not in the crushing volume game that MB is. 250 units/mnth is a fine target, if a target is even made public (I wouldn't approve making public mention of one). Would keep the car very exclusive, instead of seeing yourself in the next row at WalMart in the 7 / S.
  14. Politicians & lawmakers CANNOT help themselves- they're total crank addicts. Public road/infrastructure and mass transit project funding is fine, but NEVER spend more than you take in, idiots. If overall gas usage drops via whatever the cause, tough $h!; your pet project, inner-city, mag-lev people mover will have to WAIT. You are NOT going to raise the tax at your whim just to get your name on a public project (that is grossly out-of-line budget-wise before you even start). Get a clue, get a long-range plan, do some budgeting work, then get private industry experience in to run these jobs cost-effectively, and maybe, just maybe you can ALSO put in a dozen turtle crossing tunnels this year, too.
  15. I dunno, everytime Cadillac does something it's always 'following Brand X'. The C&D article on the ATS was talking about it having a lower beltline/ larger quarter window 'taking a page from the BMW playbook' as if they originated it (this assumes its anything worth talking about in the first place) instead of BMW just continuing to build a frumpy 2-dr sedan with a blocky greenhouse for decades upon decades, well past it being fashionable to do so. But nope- 'Cadillac is following BMW'. Wearying. -- -- -- What is audi's 'mid level' trim? I was only aware of -say- an A6 or and S6... (or do I have that wrong); has there been an 'S6Sport' ?
  16. I dunno- when the range is in the neighborhood of 75 miles, and the top speed is in the neighborhood of 200, theoretically your car could be stone cold dead in like 22 minutes.
  17. Had to google the 918; had not heard of it (being a hybrid) before. "Attention" is one thing, sales are another. At this point there's not much of a business case for one.
  18. No one is disputing that; that's a good thing, no? Where's the current gas price coming in?
  19. 3 pickups are "propping up" the entire domestic auto industry?? Where is this coming from? And BTW- I'm not seeing any significant decline in gas prices. 87 is roughly 50 cents cheaper than the better part of a year ago, but that's in no way whatsoever 'cheap', therefore I see no run on trucks supporting that theory.
  20. I ALWAYS do this. :/
  21. '36 Ford coupe, grayish-blue, stock & restored, clocking down the highway at about 65 MPH. '41 Merc business coupe, green, very solid original (except interior) going to maybe take a swing at it at an auction next weekend.
  22. Seems pretty obvious where the new Clah owners are coming from; the c-class. MB could easily chop 6 models from the line and not a single person would care.
  23. Was on the road 4 hours today, only thing of interest I saw was a '38 Cadillac sedan, black, parked & for sale.
  24. Buddy picked up a '92 Formula Firebird, 5-spd w/ T-tops, charcoal grey & primer, runs & drives, for a beater.
