GM to seek another shared Toyota model to replace Vibe

What if it was that RWD Subaru and Toyota are jointly working on? Be Positive. -
Back in Matrix Reloaded.

Personally for me there are CTS, Corvette, Cobalt TurboSS, and GMT 900s. So there is hope despite of losing the G8 and solstice..

Camino, you need to go on an island to meditate and detach. Oldsmoboi is right, you need to let the thought sink in. Think of it this way just because your favorite uncle passed away you do not have to abandon the family. The life should move on. I hate to see Pontiac go. But at least it is not euthanized as Olds was. My only concern is the dimwits in GM will let go the volume and EXCITEMENT!!!!!! rather than compensating in other brands, otherwise good luck to loyal customers and market share along with the profitability which Fritz talked about. Yeah they are doing bariatric surgery of the excess fat, but care must be taken that important organs do not get removed. As much as many people would like Opel to go, I am still on the fence regarding its or Saab's or Saturn's departure.

Sunday Herald Sun - News.com.au Holden to lose $1 billion a year if GM dumps Pontiac By Carly Crawford Sunday Herald Sun April 26, 2009 12:01am GM expected to dump Pontiac this week Holden will lose $1 billion a year GM hoping to stave off bankruptcy Embattled car maker Holden stands to lose up to $1 billion a year when its ailing US parent dumps major brand Pontiac. General Motors is this week expected to announce plans to ditch or sell the brand as it desperately works to stave off bankruptcy. That means the maker of Australia's most popular car could be in for more pain, the Sunday Herald Sun reports. Holden had been banking on exporting 30,000 VE Commodores each year to the US, where the model is sold as the high-performance Pontiac G8. World VE Commodore exports began last year in a deal worth about $1 billion annually. Holden manufactures the left-hand drive VE Commodore - with help from a $6.7 million Federal Government loan - at its plant in Elizabeth, South Australia. The company spent $77 million preparing the plant for the vehicle's production, hailing the project as the future of the Elizabeth plant. The deal was expected to lift Holden exports to 70,000 a year - half its total production. Although the car was well-received by US auto critics, the world economic crisis meant the G8, which retails for $53,000 in North America, has failed to achieve strong sales. Only about half the 25,000 G8s delivered to the US have been sold. Holden, which has not made a profit since 2004, had hoped VE Commodore exports would reach up to 50,000 a year. It is Holden's second blow this year over Pontiac's demise. In January, Pontiac shelved plans to import a G8 ute from Australia as its performance sports truck.

Could have been, but there is nothing. The reality is Pontiac is bland. Call it internal politics, or mismanagement or whatever, the truth is that Pontiac has been neutered. Let us for argument sake say that if GM wants Pontiac to exist and the only vehicles you see are G3, G5 and G6, would you buy Pontiac? Chevy on the other would get the RWD and performance cars which can be budget yet blow BMW and Infinitis off, would you not buy Chevy because it does not have a Pontiac grill and arrow on it? You make the same argument as the import humpers do when they talk about Toyota quality and not considering other (read domestic) vehicles. The truth is Opel did most of the work for the Astra GTC when SS went into development. The same logic could be applied to Mazdaspeed3 too. Why did Mazda spend research money when the new Mazda3 and the Speed was round the corner. The truth is SS Turbo was long on the list of things to do on Cobalt. If it has three model years, I personally think it is a success. Go and drive one and you will see how composed and yet firebreathing the vehicle is. As for the Cruze being round the corner, it is not like GM was going to have a totally new performance version for the vehicle. The development spent on SS Turbo can certainly be used on Cruze SS if it becomes a reality. Well it still makes G6 desirable to many. Again perceptions. Why cannot Impala be the same ride as the G8. Just because the badge changed to Chevy, why does it have to change its character? My argument is if a person calls himself a GM fan and if he gets the same vehicle in a different brand with exactly same characteristics, why will he reject it? The only answer is he is NOT a GM fan. I became a GM fan because of a Chevy, but if I get the same characteristics of a Chevy in other GM brand I will not abandon GM altogether. The mistake GM made with Olds was that they did not compensate with similar products in any other lineup. They left the Olds customers high and dry. If GM is smart enough they will not do this Pontiac or any other brand they decide to kill. But the boneheads sometime do think like it. That is the drawback of being a GM fan. Again, what makes you think that GM will dumb down Impala? Be positive man. The entire country has become so negative. Both the supporters and the opponents. If we feel we want to make a difference in GM let us together as GM fans and critics write something to GM which can let them know what and how we feel about GM and hope and pray for the best. And why not buy a Chevy if it offers performance and convinience that the current Pontiac models could not? Open your eyes and be more acceptable. -

Guys let us deflate some of the personal name calling and return to the topic. -
No worries Insignia is already there in Buick - albeit in China as the Regal. The only thing Buick will miss is the Astra clone. I personally think Buick should not get anything smaller than the Regal.

+1. Bankruptcy will not be bad for GM. Let the bad assets go, detach from Opel, Saab, Hummer and other things which are dead load and come back resurrected. Some good things will go to but GM will be certainly leaner.

You Bass-Turd. I is hungry and work is killing me so STOP.

I hope GM ends up being Benjamin Button in short time from its now old, lethargic existence to something new and vibrant and start over again towards adulthood. It may lose its market share and intellectual assets and become a small company, but those losses should be motivation enough to wrestle back its #1 spot in profitability and market share.

Cracker Barrels North of Dixon Line suck. People up there do not know how to cook good Southern Style food. Breakfast is available all day long all you have to do is ask for the menu.
-
You go there to have breakfast food, not burgers. And besides that, which location did you eat it at?
-
Guys please stop. I feel like going to Cracker Barrel NOW!!

I have not driven the 335i so I cannot comment. But if it has the handling as the ZHP does, then it is perfection. However, I still cannot accept the Banglized Design and the price BMW charges for a vehicle when bought new. I will consider the clear cover. Thanks Bob! I wanted to rove my own gears, and the only G8 that lets me do that is the GXP, which was out of my budget considering my future escapade to go back to school.

At the end of the day something has to be "serviced." If nothing is left to be serviced, how will the one who service, service the serviced?

In summary when it is economically balanced and accountable. Just ask the Europeans.

People it is not the transmission which is falling off and the automaker is not ready to pay the warranty bill of $20,000 because it did not mention that you should not use the much publicized and harped to death "launch control." Seriously, everything that GM does is a bad thing. Even if GM dies it would be bad thing for these very folks.

The only way you can go to an auction at least in FL or GA is if you have a dealer's license.
