  1. Pretty impressed with the numbers thus far. She's going to be a screamer. Back to the 4-6-8 discussion, I personally have no problems with the 3.6's numbers. Sure, I'm curious as to where exactly the numbers will fall for the 2.0T in regards to its bigger sibling, but I think its a non-issue. Despite its placement as the entry-level engine, it's been noted that you'll be able to option similar levels of kit across the range. I think that is a far better approach than Ford trying to neuter the Mustang's V6 as the bargain bin rental special. Essentially, you can pick whatever you fancy without much of a penalty. I love turbo-charged 4-cylinders (I've had two now), but there is something about the linear power delivery and raspy sound of a well-engineered V6 that speaks to me. GM's HF V6, Ford's cyclone V6, Nissan's VQ V6, VW's various narrow-angle VR6s, etc. are all wonderful engines. As everyone in the automotive world switches to and refines the formula for the turbo-charged 4-cylinders, they may surely match or exceed the performance, offer better gas mileage, and even come close to the level of refinement in a V6, but the biggest obstacle, at least to my ears, will be the lack an aurally pleasing soundtrack. GM's LTG 2.0T is probably one of the least-exciting sounding examples out there. You could argue that the applications it's been used in so far likely favor quiet operation above all-else. It remains to be seen how it's been tuned for this new Camaro until some video reviews are posted (and real-word experience can be had, as well). Ford's ecoboost 2.3L is another dull-sounding engine, so the bar hasn't been set exceptionally high. With that said, I'm eagerly anticipating seeing how the final piece of the powertrain puzzle fits. In the meantime, I'm going to youtube videos of R32s.
  2. Ever try to find someone you once knew and it seems as if they've completely vanished?
  3. Screw it, whatcha got? As a VW guy, I would obviously rock the Up! And these, as well... Oh, and then there's this little gem:
  4. I was considering one of these before I bought the GTI. As much as I loved the Recaros, the rest of the interior was garbage. I didn't think I could live with it on a day to day basis.
  5. Decided to update my sig image for the first time in... 6 years? Something like that.
  6. More fuel for the fire (surprised this hasn't been found its way onto C&G yet): The Guardian: Four more carmarkers join diesel emissions row. Some highlights from the article:
  7. I WANT disagreement. Problem is....there are some people that just downvote...WITHOUT explanation... Personally, if that person just does NOT agree with what I have to say enough to downvote me...I expect a reason as to why he would waste enough energy reading my post and then downvoting it... There is an ignore feature in the forums, right? Just ignore what I have to say if what I have to say bothers you that you have to not like it...seems stupid to me in today's society where we dont like an opinion because its different only to downvote it because we dont like it... So as to downvote in spite...is kinda stupid...therefore THAT does not belong in an internet forum...n'est ce pas? We DONT need to agree with each other. But that also means we should also DISCUSS... That is also called trolling...something that is not wanted by me on ANY forum... That would be from whatever angle... One angle is when someone says preposterous thngs JUST to rile someone...just to feel accomplished... The other angle would be the person just downvoting JUST to rile someone's feathers... Both angles are TROLLING... Both angles dont add much to ANY conversation...so what is the point in having a discussion then? I am happy with the downvoting system...it keeps trolls at bay. What I dont like is when an honest to goodness opinion gets downvoted...and THAT is fine too...but when an honest to goodness opinion gets downvoted...explanations are in order...because at the end of the day...we are ALL entitled to an opinion... How effin pretentious is it when I offer an opinion and it gets downvoted because the person downvoting does not like what I have to say? Add insult to injury...no reason is given... You dont see how effed up THAT is? Let it go? Why is it that important to you whether you get up or down-voted? There's no consequence. You don't lose posting privileges, you don't get banned, you are still able to use the forum in the same manner as everyone else. It's a non-issue and you're just allowing it to get under your skin. Opinions are fine and dandy, but you can't expect everyone to agree with yours as everyone is entitled to their own. And guess what, they don't have be vocal about it, nor should they be required to give you an explanation for your satisfaction. I don't remember this system ever being a problem until our recent influx of members from another forum. We've had this system for far longer than that, without complaints. Now, a select few of you are making a fuss about nothing. If you don't like the system and how things work, there are thousands of other forums for you to choose from.
  8. All the minicars I'd want aren't available here.
  9. This is a thing? Seriously? We're not in a popularity contest. If you guys have a problem being disagreed with or "spited", you shouldn't be on a forum. Personally, if I riled someone's feathers enough to be down-voted on a whim, I'd feel accomplished. We don't all need to agree with each other as long as we're not continuously flinging our $h! back and forth like monkeys... and that's when Drew steps in to hand out virtual spankings. Pretty simple, I'd say.
  10. VW's scandal is, undoubtedly, a revelation that has rocked the automotive industry since its discovery. Day in and day out, it's a story that cannot escape the news. It shows up on my Twitter feed, my Google now stories, my local news, my nightly talk shows... It's everywhere, including the little pamphlet shoved under your windshield wiper, likely left carelessly by some hypocritical Prius driver. The overwhelming negative response has even spurred some to the point of pulling Nazi-controlled pasts out of the grave. If there were ever a story to drown out Donald Trump, this is it. Yes, it's that big... But is it justified? I have a few questions regarding some of the technicalities in the recent uncovering of VW's emissions evasion and the media storm that's followed it. Before we move on, know that this discussion isn't intended to pertain to the legality of VW's position in its self-derived legal mess. Laws were obviously broken and reputations were shattered. This isn't about that. It's about the bigger picture... The true reality of what effect this will have on our living, breathing bodies in regards to the world, at large. These are completely serious questions to which I expect completely serious answers, if possible. What are the emission's requirements for heavy-duty pickups (such as Silverados with the Duramax), as well as commercial vehicles (such as box trucks and semi-trucks) relative to the requirements for passenger vehicles? How would the sales between each of those compare, and what are the average miles logged annually for each type of vehicle? Despite the obvious deceptive behavior, laws broken, etc., (VW is evil, etc.)... Which is actually the bigger evil when it comes to polluting the air? How big of a difference is it, or is it negligible? Is this just hot air from the EPA and VW is the scapegoat of the industry, or is everything completely justified and VW has forever tarnished our lungs? If someone is able to answer those questions with actual facts and figures from reputable sources (and not fluffy opinions, all fluffy and typed in ALL CAPS), I'd genuinely be interested to see the answers. I'd like to know if my bias is just tainting my opinion, or if my gut feeling on the matter is close to reality. I'm hoping this can be an actual civilized discussion, unlike the majority of everything I've seen on C&G lately.
  11. Call me crazy, I like it. The balls. Tesla manages to bring something to market that truly carves out its own niche. It may not be the most realistic or affordable, but they're almost certainly trying to be completely bat-$h! crazy. I would have thought for sure that Tesla was going to water it down into the typical production spec of most manufacturers.
  12. So, this place sure has gone downhill since my last visit.
  13. I don't often say this, but there are a lot of good points above.
  14. It's an improvement. *sound of crickets* ...Yeah, that's probably the nicest thing I can say. It's just a bit uninspired. Okay, more than a bit... It's very uninspiring. The weight savings is meager. The carry-over power-train isn't terrible, but still re-used. The interior is boring, though, at least it seems to pack a fair bit of tech and a bunch of Mercedes-esque details, for better or worse. And the styling, much like CT6, is a bigger, watered down version of the same design on the rest of their line-up. One thing Mercedes seems to get is the trickle-down styling whereas you style your lower-rung models after the flagship. BMW (and Cadillac, Audi) seem to style their flagship after their price-leaders. Why? I guess, at the end of the day, they all look the same regardless... Though, it still bugs me.
  15. Moog is probably the best affordable choice for sway bar links. I've gone the really, really, really cheap route before only to have those fail spectacularly. Upgraded to Moogs afterwards... never an issue. As for the sway bar itself, is it bigger in diameter than the stock set-up? Otherwise, if its just OE-spec and unless it truly needs replaced, it's probably not worth the effort.
  16. I don't really care about any of this... I like the G-wagen.
  17. Firebird: Started my multi-step coolant flush after a short delay (Vacation). Also, changed the oil and added some Marvel's mystery oil to hopefully help an intermittent lifter tick (common 3800 issue). Upon the first start up, it seems to have quelled the noise. GTI: Washed off the dirt it collected from sitting for a week.
  18. Thread revival! I wanted to update my signature a bit, so I figured I would just add my line-up of vehicles to it. Seemingly simple, you would think, right? Well, I soon found myself adding in all my past cars, as well. This, in turn, got me thinking about the past and all the various outcomes of each vehicle. I then remembered I started this thread way back yonder in my wonder years... So, here we be. Glorious, eh? With the new crop of members (about time) appearing suddenly, this could be yet another way to be introduced to our new fellow members. ## My Updates: 1995 Pontiac Grand Am GT ------------ Spruce Green Met. ----- 2.3L I4 N/A -- 5M - FWD - 2DR - 118k to 121k (3k) --- Sold 1995 Mazda Millenia L ------------------- Deep Sea Mica ----------- 2.5L V6 N/A - 4A - FWD - 4DR - 160k to 175k (15k) -- Sold 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme - Dark Maple Red Met. - 5.0L V8 N/A - 3A - RWD - 2DR - 100k to 108k (8k) --- Sold 1998 Volkswagen Jetta GT ------------ Tornado Red -------------- 2.0L I4 N/A -- 4A - FWD - 4DR - 68k to 82k (14k) ----- Totaled (at fault) 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt ------------------ Victory Red ---------------- 2.2L I4 N/A -- 4A - FWD - 2DR - 10k to 42k (32k) ----- Totaled (not at fault) 1994 Volkswagen Golf III GL ---------- Teurkis Pearl Met. ------ 2.0L I4 N/A -- 5M - FWD - 5DR - 205k to 220k (15k) - Scrapped 1991 Honda CRX DX ---------------------- Frost White --------------- 1.5L I4 N/A -- 5M - FWD - 3DR - 197k to 208k (11k) - Sold 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT ------------ Garnet Red Pearl -------- 2.5L H4 T/C - 5A - AWD - 4DR - 85k to 115k (30k) -- Traded 2005 Toyota Avalon Limited ---------- Cassis Pearl --------------- 3.5L V6 N/A -- 5A - FWD - 4DR - 59k to 118k (59k) -- Traded 1998 Pontiac Firebird Base ------------ Black ------------------------- 3.8L V6 N/A - 5M - RWD - 2DR - 121k to ??? ------------ Current 2010 Volkswagen GTI -------------------- Shadow Blue Met. ------ 2.0L I4 T/C -- 6DC - FWD - 3DR - 21k to ??? ------------- Current
  19. Firebird: Drained the coolant and replaced the thermostat. GTI: Drove the piss out of it.
  20. Rural north-western Pennsylvania most of my life. Otherwise, had a short stint in the Detroit metro. My next move is imminent and TBA.
  21. I've enjoyed my Moto X, but I can't really recommend it unless you never, ever take pictures with it. Camera is truly awful in most circumstances. I would suggest the S6. It's the one phone that really seems like it has all bases covered. You'd really have to nitpick to find flaws, unlike previous Galaxies. Then again, if you like the plastic-fantastic construction of those that allowed for the removable battery, then I suppose the fancy new body would be a negative. Making more a nice thing sort of makes the phone less practical. Still, you could always buy a portable power pack to charge it when needed.
