  1. "how long until Obama and his minions assassinate GMC" Now it's 'blame Obama'. The GOP Senators want Asians to make cars in the south, since they hate the UAW. So no, John McCain and Sarah Palin would have not 'saved' them either. What $$$ could be used to prop up all the duplicate cars and all, just to please the nerds who live in the 60's? Chevrolet is a solid brand, and the idea of B-O-P being 'better' is LONG OVER!
  2. It is a Museum relic, not a collector or cruise night car. The folks in the pst didnt know what to expect and learned the hard way about entombing. It will be put on display as an artifact.
  3. Say whatever you wish, but the good old days of 4 brand selling the same cars and claiming their's is better or different are long opver. The whole "this brand is that" and all is pure advertising and PR psychology, nothing measurable. GM has to make cars that sell to retail buyers at profit, not to rentals and to keep plants going. Chevrolet Motor Co. with subsidiary Cadillac Motors. Performance? Camaro and Corvette. The mid level brands only sell to old timers who are fading away. Buick name can be sold to Chinese. Basically, get over it, 1965 is not coming back, the Govt is not banning imports, and GM will never be the big tuna with all the brands/models for car trivia nerds to try to memorize.
  4. GM has to survive and stand on its own before any 'dream machines' are produced. I dont believe that there are any plans for beyond 2013 until the company is solvant. So much has been cancelled, already! The new GM management should just kill off the W body period, and have the Malibu be top car, until a good flag ship car can be brought out.
  5. All the middle price brand fans have to wake up and 'smell the coffee'. GM failed at trying to keep all the nostolgic brands around to please dealers and loyalists [who end up getting used cars anyway]. "I'm not interested in those 3 brands", well the rest of the world has moved on from the outdated "My Pontiac is better", even tho its the same $@$@!# car!
  6. Anyone who thinks a GOP White House would have 'saved GM' better is living in Disneyland. Wagoneer was still in the 'just wait til' mode. Expecting 'good old days' or 29% to come back "soon".
  7. Keeping the S series forever, and promoting the nerdy buyers who feared negotiations, instead of the products, killed them in long run
  8. IMHO, keeping the old A body Cutlass Ciera around forever, hurt them badly. Sure, older people loved them, but in long run, brand became 'staid' and young buyers seeing all the old boxy Cieras in the mid 90's didn't help. The Intrigue was to late, Aurora too expensive. GM should have killed all A bodies and brought out lower end W body models in 1991 for Olds/Buick. Instead of waiting til 1997-8 for a new Century/Intrigue, by then GM lost many buyers to imports.
  9. The Century based Gran Sport was a sleeper for 73-74. The Stage 1 455 was still available and Motor Trend tested a 73 and got good 1/4 times. It may not have been a pure muscle car, but it still kicked IMHO.
  10. Petitions don't mean sh@t. Go to a Pontiac dealer and buy a new one, and allow it to be a profitable sale. Armchair fans cant expect others to buy cars just for them to see on the road.
  11. Middle aged buyers are the backbone of the car industry, and have kids to feed, real jobs. The stereotype of 'giving up on dreams' is false. It is facing reality, which young idolizers know hardly anything about. Expecting to be a 'superstar' overnight or to fake dreams of getting $$ handed to you is what is driving this country down. I say to the young know it alls, move out of your parent's basement now, since you "know everything".
  12. GM doesn't don't have the $$, and all the Pontiac purists will complain that it "doesn't look like the classic ones", and they'd also want a Pontiac V8 motor. The 04-06 GTO proved it and look at any Pontiac website, magazine, etc.
  13. Even here on C&G, there are the Pontiac, Buick, whatever brand loyalists who think there favorite should 'get all the goodies'. Or, whenever there is a new Chevy, they yell, 'where is the Pontiac [etc] version?'
  14. Fox News is Rupert Murdoch's baby, ideas spun to protect the rich ruling class. Wall St and bankers 'deserve' their billions, but 'fly overs' should clean bird cages and be happy to live in 'A-mur-ica'
  15. The Omni came from Chrysler's French unit, so no it was NOT an "American milestone" in any way. It even had VW engines at first.
  16. The "me too" dates to the 60's with the Tempest/F-85/Special, then the NOVA clones, to the X/J/A/N cars, etc, etc. In the 70's, the BOP dealers went after Chevy buyers with the 'for $100 more you can get a better nameplate'. Then, GM spent less and less on differentiation. The 68-72 mid sized cars each had their own style, but the A/N/W cars were blah-blah. This is the root of GM's issues, along with poor quality of small cars aimed at younger buyers, i.e. Vega.
  17. One cant blame GM for not making a Zeta RWD Impala. Thanks to the Mid East unstability, CAFE, up/down gas prices, and slow sales of gas eaters. The LX cars have tanked from the glory days of 4 years ago. Camaro sells to different crowd, while 'loyal RWD' sedan buyers expect a 'deal' or wait to get used.
  18. Pontiac has the Solstace and G8 at least. But they were not getting the crowds at the Chicago Auto Show as much as the Camaro and Transformer cars at Chevy. Also, Caddy has 'street dred' with yong adults, too. Rename the G8 as Grand Prix, since Lutz is retiring. The 'American BMW' didnt work, just be Pontiac.
  19. Was at Chicago Auto Show and the Pontiac, Saturn, and Saab displays were dead; very few spectators. While, the Chevy and Caddy sites were packed with lookers.
  20. People complain about government, but if their house is on fire, there better be a fire truck!
  21. Neons had the worst resale all its life, and the 2nd gens were awful. I never saw any good reviews of it, except maybe from Allpar.com, who thinks any Mo-dog is great. I rented one and it was like driving a Soviet Union or East German car. Allpar can do all the cheer leading and make biased claims, but Chrysler is dying off, and they cant put full blame on Daimler. They were always the weakest of the Big 3, and this tought economy is finally killing it off. No way can Fiat save them.
  22. "so I guess I'll have to get a bumper sticker for my 7 series..." Well, 97%+ of us real people simply cannot afford a 7 Series or other super $$$$ car. And last I heard BMW and MB sales are tanking too. Beemer had relied subsidized leases, but now any 'hot shot' can't lease a 3 series and take it to their McMansion. [When i see these former greedy people crying because they lost $$ in past year, I could not care less.] Also, sure Mopar sells LX RWD, but then they are about ready to shut down. So much for the idea that RWD/V8 is all that is needed to "save" a car company
  23. Add in Buick of China's sales #'s and Pontiac pales in comparison.
