  1. YES AMERICA!!! Eventually ALL of your businesses will be foreign owned! I hate that Ghosen is being so arrogant, but I can definitely see Nissan buying out GM simply because americans will never care enough to buy domestic cars anymore... [/pessimism] P.S. Nissan better get their $h! together on the home front before they even begin thinking about merging with or aquiring another company.
  2. LOL... This lady was so into the earth nugget scene that she up and legally changed her name to "Peace of the woods"
  3. Because 1) They're an easy target and 2) They're high profile. Just another law firm trying to make a name for themselves while getting rich off of the backs of others... Typical american bull$h!, but pretty surprising for Canada.
  4. I used to work with a woman who did this regularly... (I grew up in Asheville, freak capital of the east coast--- that explains a lot)
  5. I vote for the first caption from thegriffon... That's perfect! MINE: "Toyota, riding the coatails of Detroit to success for over 40 years. (Literally)"
  6. I would definitely prefer to have a temperature gauge as well. However, the majority of the buying public (Not enthusiasts or car people like us) really isn't going to be that concerned about having an idiot light as opposed to a gauge. I would seriously consider the 3 door XR to replace my Focus were I in the market. Wonder if we can order the go-fast parts from europe somehow?
  7. Just like the sludging engines... Just like the puking trannys... Just like the FJ's that are breaking in half... Just like the plethora of Prius problems... Just like the snapping camshafts... NONE OF THIS MATTERS Simply because the media does not want the public to think badly of Toyota, so they will not destroy them like they did Detroit. As for 'word of mouth' Toyota has been shoved down our throats as the god of innovation and environmental goodwill for so long that it will take 2 or 3 generations of bad product to affect their sales based on this alone. CASE IN POINT: GMT800 has tailgate cables that break when they are 7-10 years old. THAT is a front page news piece! The new Tundra not only has severe mechanical issues as well as poor crash ratings, but also now has severe engineering issues and is being literally given away, yet NOT ONE DAMN MEDIA OUTLET PICKS UP THE STORY Nothing has changed and it probably never will.
  8. What a line of Sure, the Ion isn't a great car but talk about being mellow dramatic. It's a frikkin' hatch, not a minivan... At most, 2, maybe 3 people will be in there at once. Don't hand me that sh*t.. Honda makes it a TRADEMARK to sell cars with missing center and passenger armrests. Like the average buyer is going to give a crap... And I repeat; like the average buyer is going to give a crap... I can only think of one place in america where one should be doing 80mph anyway. Otherwise, it's endangering the well being of others around them (Yep, I can spin bullsh*t too) Either way, the car isn't going to be pulling these RPMs enough for the buyer to care. Obligatory import mined media quote number 1 "It's good, but not quite good enough." That seems to be the story for all of the excellent and BETTER ALL AROUND than any other automaker, vehciles that GM is putting out lately. Even the CTS gets this pre-determined and well rehearsed conclusion.
  9. Thus far, I'm not so sure I like it... The rear reminds me too much of the bland asian look that EVERYONE is copying now (Think: Maxima) Although that might be part of the camo too. There is a HUGE gap between the body of the car and the tires which makes this (supposedly tailored) luxury sedan look sloppy and uncoordinated. Of course, I can't form a real judgement based on these camo-ed pix alone.
  10. God, these people are dumb... Look; you can either take the deal or be unemployed. You're damn lucky to still be in the GREAT situation you're in on retirement and healthcare in an age where the rest of the country either does without or works for another country altogether. GM could've just filed chapter 11 and dumped all of the pensions in the first place. P.S. How is what the union does with the money ANY of GM's problem?
  11. I'm so glad NC doesn't require them... Besides, where would I hang that confederate flag plate if I had to run a front tag... And yes, I would have no shame in that, it's my heritage.
  12. Also wrong... Refer to the article posted in the lounge about a week ago that discusses the continual slide of the middle class into large sums of debt. The marekt is beginning to dry up. As a result, the article talks about how the corporations are increasing their exposure to the upper class and that as long as that class keeps spending, they will carry the economy. While I do agree with the buy local/buy american sentiment, it's hard to do that when the middle class is being forced to take major pay cuts. Most people I know who bought Kias buy them because they're cheap and nothing else. Some people, including me want to buy the more expensive american made stuff. But sometimes that's just not possible. Outsourcing has screwed over middle america more than anything. And the reason the companies outsourced in the first place was to increase the profit margin... Business 101.
  13. Especially in THIS KIND of capitalism... That exact line was CONSTRUCTED during the industrial revolution to convince the working class that they could succeed. But the underlying point of it was to increase production and make the rich more $$$. Not in this society... Acccording to sociologists, the only way to elevate class in this country is through education. Most people, especially mortgage-paying former middle class, don't have the money to go back to school. I'm a 25 year old poverty level student and I barely get enough from the government to go, I can't imagine financial aid even touching their expense to go back.
  14. I hate the 'internationalists'. You must be new to the board. I agree, and I think it sucks bad. I was once middle class and I've watched my family fall to where it is now. But the fact of the matter is, these are the cards we've (the middle class) been dealt by those in charge (the upper class) As terrible as that sounds, we have no choice but to make the best of it. If the union doesn't give GM concessions, then the union will die one way or another. It's not the corporations fault... They're just trying to do business. It's actually the governments' fault for allowing us to be screwed over by the global economy. Absolutley not... But the american people have spoken. Spoken by electing people who welcome the downfall of our society to elevate other societies... Spoken by demanding that goods be cheaper (even by pennies on the dollar) instead of caring that their neighbor has a job. The rich have always controlled everything anyway... Just look, for example, at when the auto industry started. Henry Ford even controlled the leisure time of his workers Nothing has changed! It's just that, by allowing a global economy, it has sealed the control by the rich because now, it's bigger than us (america) and it doesn't matter what we try to do to stop it. We do not govern outside of our borders. I agree 100% 1) The unions are just as corrupt and rich as everyone else & 2) It doesn't matter if they take a stand... they can strike and kill GM, thus killing themselves OR they can agree to downsize, thus killing themselves. The straw has been thrown on the camels back.
  15. The Teamsters are almost as worthless as the UAW.. Trust me, I've worked with them.
  16. This is a very tough situation... If I were at the helm of GM, it would be an easy decision to make though... IF the UAW would not meet the targeted cuts to make the business relevant in the future, then the company is a failed entity anyway. SO, to borrow a Lamb of God lyric: "FULL THROTTLE, DETERMINED TO FAIL. PEDAL TO THE METAL, ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL." Which means, if the UAW is going to run the company into the ground anyway, then I'd go ahead and push it full speed ahead into the nosedive. We'll run this $h! face first into the concrete, because what's the point anyway? The faster GM re-emerges from bankruptcy, the faster this PARASITE dies.
  17. Hillary and Obama!?!?! If they see office, Detroit won't be around long enough for free healthcare to matter in the first place. Case in point.... Obama hates Detroit and one of his first acts in office will be to euthanize it as fast as possible (albeit not blatantly)
  18. So what's the problem?By their own admission, GM was the only automaker eligible to bid, so what's the big deal? I'm not even sure that's the major issue (Although I'm sure it is one of them) I think it's just simple politics. This guy wants Arnold's job and he's going to use our tax dollars and valuable time to go after it instead of actually doing something productive. Typical of a politician and typical of California. Thank you very much... This is exactly what I was trying to say, you just did a better job.
  19. No offense man, but I've held blue collar jobs most of my life and I still despise unions. My grandfather was an avid Teamster supporter, but my experience has been that now unions just serve as a harbinger of "good enough" when our 'global economy' (which is a joke in the first place--- I know) demands excellence.
  20. I don't do the coffee thing, but I do have to have a Dr. Pepper first thing in the morning. If I don't, then I get very moody and I eventually get a headache. It has to be a 12oz. can too, because the plastic/glass bottles aren't crisp enough (Not enough carbonation) You know the addiction is bad when I can go to a restaurant and tell if the Dr. Pepper came out of a can, glass or plastic bottle, or fountain machine. I figure, I don't really have any bad vices, I've done pretty good at cutting back on caffeine and sugar before, but I don't think I'll ever be able to live a completely Dr. Pepper free life.
  21. GM will be painted as the bad guy... I can't believe they support that hack in the first place.
  22. I've always been one to stress out (Everyone here knows it) and I used to stress out like hell about the survival of GM and the rest of Detroit for that matter. But then I realized that the problems with Detroit are LITERALLY just the tip of the iceberg. There is no sense in worrying about the fate of GM (Which I am still very negative about) when our country as a whole is and will fall(ing) For me, apathy is bliss because in my mind, it's just a matter of time before america, as we knew it, is gone. And I'm afraid it will never be the same again. To top it off, it seems that at least 60-70% of the population is HELLBENT on DESTROYING this country, despite knowing the negative outcome. Whether it be through sympathy that is jaded to selling ourselves out, or just common disagreement on everything america or simply a will to deny our culture in favor of an imported culture. Oh well, at least I can say I was prepared, when it does happen, and that I'll survive, which is more than most will probablybe able to say.
  23. A bit off topic, but; This used to run by my house a couple of times a year until 1994 when Norfolk announced that it had become too expensive to operate verses their return. It apparently now sits in a museum somewhere up north. I used to be into trains pretty heavy, but have since let that hobby drop a bit. It's very mountainous here so everytime it would come through Norfolk would have a diesel engine waiting at either the Saluda Grade or Old Fort Mountain (depending on the direction) to pull it because it couldn't make it up the grades by itself. This runs by my current apt. now:
  24. That's awesome... I'm very jealous. I'd love to be in a club like that, where I'd be working in my garage one day and friends just randomly show up (even if they just want to hang out) I just love the hobby, doesn't matter if it's a beater or even a car that someone just pulled out of the field and threw tires on. I think a lot of that comes from how you enter the hobby. Many of the 'snobs' go out and purchase a $60,000 show car as their first foray into the hobby. Where as, people like us tend to build on our cars for years. My '73 was basically a field car with nice paint when I first got it --- Fast forward to now, 10 years later, and it still isn't completely finished. Random story: I attended a local cruise night over the summer a few times. (just as a spectator) I saw a kid that couldn't be more than 16 or 17 out there with about an '81 El Camino. He seemed so into the club and 'scene' and I thought that was extremely cool. Naturally though, he seemed to be the outcast.
