  1. It's not quite as bad as the promo makes out... That said I am warming to Rutledge, he seems to be a decent sort of car guy and as someone who has a secret soft spot for the Roadmaster Estate (which has a place among my illustrious "must own" list), I enjoyed the way it was portrayed. Destroying that Cutlass was just cruel though.
  2. I don't even want to think about that... The positive that I *do* see out of the cable leaks, is that it shows behind that behind the scenes, despite the lack of polish, diplomacy *is* working. Sometimes that can be comforting in an age of uncertainty. China being cool with a unified Korean peninsula under Seoul should make everybody breathe just a little easier. Also, Canadians, in addition to having an 'inferiority complex', also never forget. Anything.
  3. Might be a good, even a great car but it is just "hide the children ugly" (IMO of course, but I wouldn't want to be seen in one). The Cruze, Focus, Mazda3, Jetta, etc... all are more attractive looking sedans. This thing just looks wonky to me.
  4. Here are my justifications, Olds. 1) Mark X: Same justification as bringing back the XLR, Lincoln should have some sort of a "halo" vehicle, and the styling is much more crisp and unique than what they're going after (tarted up Fords) 2) Mercury Messenger: Before they canned Mercury, the idea was to bring over the Euro Fords and revamp Mercury to make them appeal to more young buyers. The Messenger with its euro looks and sporting pretensions would have made a nice fit in such a lineup. 3) Super8: Would make a great concept for an eccentric, Malibu Maxx style midsize Dodge 4) Imperial: Fiat wants Chrysler to = Cadillac, and yet Chrysler has no epic flagship car. This thing would be a great start and it has the presence of a Rolls.
  5. Our Malibu was acting up (rough idle, surging, low fuel economy) and they re-flashed the ECM and it was fine even though it was exhibiting coil pack symptoms.
  6. It'll be nice to see how the Fiesta does in the market... This car has a special place in my mom's heart- she bought one new in 1978 from a local Ford dealership, absolutely loved it and kept it for sixteen years. Just like this one... So I took her to see the new one and she really liked it, seemed wowed by the safety features, comparative level of comfort, and the trick features like the capless fuel filling. She'll have to look at the Sonic when it comes out too, I sense she wants a smaller car than the Malibu, but she's also waiting to see the new Chrysler 200 Convertible. My questions: How stable is it on the highway? Does it feel more substantial than it looks or is it like a tin can? How refined would you say the powertrain is?

  8. My grandfather had a 2003 Caravan Sport with the 3.3L and he got so fed up with it, he ended up getting rid of it. Constant HVAC and Electrical Problems, and the transmission went all in the 80k miles he had it. One night at 9.30pm the whole car just went nuts, horn honking, lights flashing, power sliding door opening and closing... even though it had been parked for hours. I took to calling it Christine.
  9. The 'vous is nice too... but I'd disagree about the useful load issue, mainly since you're pigeon holed into the SWB model, and to their credit, this generation of the U-Van could carry 4x8 sheets of plywood with the back and middle seats out. The wide door openings and low step in height also make ingress and egress a lot easier. The leather/cloth upholstery in the 'vous also doesn't seem to wear as well as the upholstery in the U-Vans (based on what I've seen here in Canada) @ Dave... I've got a ungodly amount of brochures from this period; if you want me to digitize any for you just let me know and I can zip and send them.
  10. Funny I was thinking the same thing... I guess everyone knows a web developer who looks like that.
  11. Drew and I must be of similar dimensions because I would almost exactly echo his comments about the seats in the Regal versus previous GM offerings... just checking it out in the showroom something seemed way off about the way the front seats felt and I think he nailed it.
  12. It would be interesting if we could have a buddy car show here in North America that cherishes and respects classic Detroit iron.
  13. Yeah That was our 2005 LS, which we opted for over the Uplander. Frankly they were better than the Uplander. Less rattles, less electrical problems, Nicer seats. Also had a 2002 and a 1999, both also LS LWB models Thing to remember is that the LWB models have a 96L gas tank, which ended up costing nearly $150 to fill in the summer of 2008 when we finally got rid of it. That's food for thought, but it did get 30 on the highway.
  14. No complaints with the 2002-05 U-Bodies, we had three, all were more or less flawless.
  15. Those Astros and Safaris also have the benefit of being practically unkillable...
  16. Oh LOL, Broken Windows!

  21. Maybe once the Verano ramps up production they'll offer the engine they put in it as a top level option... I hope. Even so, I don't think it's that much porkier than the Cobalt... For what most people want and are going to be doing, the 1.4T is more than enough.
  22. Let's have this on the record as my official answer to the initial question. LOVED the last gen of that car, and by God, hell or high water I'm going to own one someday.
  23. My uncle just bought one of these (ordered it from the factory)... a F350 King Ranch Crew Cab with the Powerstroke, saddle leather and that unique red exterior color in that press photo you posted. He seems to love it although I think the GM HD's are more refined.
  24. ...There's probably something to that, reg. Volvo already has said they're moving downmarket.
  25. My bet for highest mileage is perhaps Bob's 1992 Regal Coupe with about 400'000km... Joe's Oldsmobile had something like 525000km when it died.
