  1. That is just so wrong...
  2. I knew how to drive long before my voice changed - so the driver's Ed thing was strictly for the discount. By age 13 I had driven both auto and stick cars and trucks.
  3. I'm certain that it will come back to bite them. Roughing the guy up a bit and holding him for the cops would have been enough. The beating (especially with the 2x4), is an arrestible offense and charges should have been brought.
  4. The top Cop and the mayor have brushed it off, and the DA has said no charges will be filed. Bad choices all around. A serious erosion of the rule of law in the city. I expect that they will eventually regret it.
  5. Terrible indeed. But think on this for a moment, the cops were calling the guy a "person of interest", not even a "suspect" at the time. The local news is calling it a "citizen's arrest". But no one knew until days later that the guy is a DNA match. They could have been beating an innocent man, maybe a witness. What has happened is wrong and always will be - no debate required, no fine line. Due process is the basis of justice in every case - even obvious ones.
  6. That's why I resigned as an admin, and I've spent much less time here. But, this is still my home on the net.
  7. Maybe, 66. But who would be willing to lend me one?
  8. Of course. But you don't want to start allowing exceptions to the rights granted in the Bill of Rights. That is very dangerous fire to play with. Recently in Philly, a scumbag raped an 11 year-old girl viciously. The cops put the word out that they were looking for him. A bunch of locals spot the guy and proceed to beat him with fists and 2x4s - all caught on camera. The guy is guilty as sin and a real scumbag. But guess what? No charges are being brought against the vigilantes that beat the dirtball despite the video evidence. That, my friends, is a miscarriage of justice.
  9. My Father made it quite clear that I would not be added to their policy when I started driving. It was all on me.
  10. It was good for a 10% discount on insurance at the time - so I took it as soon as I could since I paid for my own insurance from day #1.
  11. I've tried. I've spent some time soul-searching. And I've tried to let it go. But. like it or not, I'm still bitter about the loss of Pontiac and the G8 ST. I just can't forgive GM for this.
  12. Going back a bit farther and axing Roger Smith would have been far more effective. He's the one who blew the cash stash. But personnel isn't the topic here.
  13. Back in high school, we had 3 driver's ed cars - all brand new. A RWD Cutlass (complete with pillow velour interior). A Citation A Saab 900 with a 5spd. manual My birthday is in July so I took the course over the summer so I could get my license immediately. I put hundreds of miles on the Cutlass and took my test in it. I already knew how to drive so it was pure fun for me, the one other student, and the instructor. He was very cool and took us to a high parking lot above the test center so we could see how the testing was done. Both of us aced it on the first try. My yearbook has a pic or two of the Saab stuck in the sand at the Jersey shore - never got the story on that one.
  14. Interesting responses so far, keep them coming.
  15. What would have been done differently since that time?
  16. ...if Saturn, Hummer, and Saab had been dumped early in this decade?
  17. With a 4spd, it would be perfection.
  18. Understood.
