  1. Interesting car. I had no idea that these cars had an aluminum hood! Not really my style, but a special car that needs to be preserved to be sure.
  2. The nowhere land between the Boom and X. Technically a Boomer, but I don't fit with all of that so I don't feel like I'm part of it.
  3. Likley an El Camino and maybe a wagon.
  4. Some rare stuff in those pics! The Diablo was the GMC equivalent of the El Camino SS "Royal Knight" and very uncommon. Also rare is any Camino/Caballero of this generation with a manual trans.
  5. Very cool story - I would have loved doing that! Sorry for the thread hijack, 68. Glad you will be driving something to this event. Can't wait for the pics!
  6. Yes, from 1971 through 1977. In '78, the name was changed to Caballero.
  7. Harry has become an institution around here... or was it that he has been institutionalized? One of the two. :AH-HA_wink:
  8. It all seems like old news to me, but that's only because we having been preaching this here at C&G for so long. :AH-HA_wink: Great to see this story in print. Here's to the future!
  9. Just tell her,Z. You have tact and know how to use it - so go ahead and give it a try.
  10. Current count (cars and trucks only); V8 X 4 = 32 inline 6 X 1 = 6 V6 x 1 = 6 Subtotal = 44 Add my Dad's Hawk (it lives here) = + 8 Add 2 V8 cars currently without engines = + 16 more Potential automotive total = 68 I'll leave all of the power equiptment out of it.
  11. Hmmm, seems we are still short a few promised sketches.
  12. The knee-jerk is white, but there are plenty of other colors which I dislike. Give me a dark color any day, especially dark green or blue. Black is my all-time favorite for cars that are my pride and joy. Even though my GTO is red, I usually don't like red cars. I especially dislike the orange-red that's been the standard red for so long (Chevy Victory red), but give me a blood red like the GTO or an M BMW and I'm happy with it. Some others that I'd leave on the lot: beige tan yellow any "dayglow" color purple some teals orange (except metallics) brown light blue or green any "M&M" colors pink
  13. Okay, I get you. I like quirky cars too (maybe a bit less quirky than some you listed). I was just having a hard time imagining you in the Malibu and I wondered what the motivation was. :AH-HA_wink: One look in my garage and you can see that I have ecclectic tastes as well. BTW: I'll have a '77 Chevelle wagon ready before too long - if you're interested. With A/C!
  14. Paolino's experience isn't a common one with these cars, most are reliable or already junked. There are lots of them still out there on the road to choose from. They tend to be inexpensive, and some are actually increasing in value so they are often a good buy. Good move passing on the one you found as there are too many available to start with a trashed one. But, I'm curious, why are you interested in this type of car, Fly? The two -doors tend to be better preserved and hold their value (caminos and wagons too). Most of the sedans are throw- aways. Even so, a clean sedan can be had for next to nothing and makes an excellent candidate for cheap transportation. Look for a Cutlass if you want a sedan as most were pretty well-equipped for their time.
  15. Yes, even Arlen. In fact, his automated response was the first to arrive in my mailbox. We'll see if any of them make a real response (on topic instead of form letter). I'll post any that I get.
  16. Umm... the diease is a progessive illness. Fair warning! :AH-HA_wink:
  17. No brainer. Dead simple, easy to maintain, very reliable, not rotted - $650? Bargain.
  18. All of my elected officials now have a copy. :AH-HA_wink:
  19. My post over there: As the owner of a small business which requires the use of light-duty trucks to operate, as well as an auto enthusiast, I strongly oppose the ill-conceived legislation pending which unrealistically increases fuel economy standards. Mandates like this are myopic and reactionary and ignore both the issue of feasibility and the negative side effects. Legislators should resist the knee-jerk tendency to use mandates and regulations to address our energy needs in this country. Rather, they should incentivise the push toward alternative fuels and propulsion technologies. C.A.F.E. is all the example required to see how such regulation is doomed to failure. Unintended consequences are the legacy of such action along with the failure to attain the results desired. A far better approach would be to encourage the inventiveness of the American people, free their creativity, and support such endeavors economically if positive results are the goal. Please don't lean on the failed strategies of the past. Opportunities abound in all areas of energy supply and consumption to increase our efficiency and energy independence. However, we will never conserve our way out of the current situation. As a matter of national security I urge you to think beyond the existing parameters and make alternative energies the main priority. The last thing we need to do is to encumber our dwindling manufacturing base with any further draconian restrictions and our citizens with any more social engineering. A free nation is at its most innovative when allowed the latitude to create independent solutions. Encourage those. Freedom always trumps regulation.
  20. http://drivecongress.com/ Use it. And, spread the word.
  21. Quite the story. Sounds like you live in a great place with neighbors who "get it". It beats being here among the conformist masses. Sheeple with money make crappy neighbors.
  22. Happy Birthday Nick!
  23. Thanks guys. Speaking of Jack Russells, one of them came by about a year ago and chased Arkus around the yard - hilarious to see such a little dog going after a Malamute. Those little things can be nasty beasts though. My two were part of a huge litter and I almost brought "Duntov" home as well, so glad I didn't!
  24. Back on topic, I'm thinking that a cable run might work for Arkus - but it will have to be a damn strong cable.
