  1. Unimportant. The margin was a mere 90k units worldwide, so I don't think Toyota is celebrating yet. The test will be seeing if Toyota can maintain or expand this lead by the end of the year. I think that the two companies will be neck and neck for some time to come.
  2. Same here, would have been great to shoot the breeze with you.
  3. Actually, the Ute is only going into production because Export sales bolstered the business case.
  4. At this point they have to build the Volt. And it has to be good, very good. On this one car, profit has to be measured in a different way. The car itself doesn't need to make money, but it has to bring the respect of consumers home to GM. As a goodwill ambassador, the Volt's mission will be to validate the technological capabilities of GM as a whole. This car has to be really right.
  5. The Dodge will be staying quiet, no need to hotrod the family antique. If I want to make some noise, my recent Chevy purchases should do nicely. :AH-HA_wink:
  6. Agreed. This car is a driver, dump the bias-plys Fast I promise you will love the car even more when you do.
  7. In that case his replacement needs to be replaced before he leaves. Lutz and Holden are why I still have hope for GM.
  8. The Dodge is painfully quiet... But my wagon won't be! :AH-HA_wink:
  9. Its always a good feeling when you "make it right" on your vehicle. Congrats on the carb rehab, and Happy Birthday in advance. I think the '38 Dodge will be going to its first show of the season this Saturady as well.
  10. When I first contemplated shaving my head, my hair hung halfway down my back. Rock and Roll.
  11. I'm not so sure that he's with you. :AH-HA_wink:
  12. Subject to interpretation much?
  13. I've toyed with the idea of shaving my head for years - I may do it someday.
  14. Not in this case. Opel had this platform (I can't claim to know how well they did with it) Caddy re-badged the Opel and produced what is aguably the least dependable Caddy in recent history. Holden took the same platform, re-engineered it, adapted it to a dizzying array of bodystyles and drivelines, sold the hell out of it around the world, won racing championships as a matter of course(stomping BMW with regularity by the way) , and finally exported one of the finest iterations of the platform to the US as the GTO. I'd call that perfection.
  15. Opel may have invented the platform, but Holden perfected it .
  16. The notion that the car was a failure really isn't accurate to begin with. That it failed to meet GM's estimated sales numbers is true, beyond that failure isn't something you can lay at the GTO's doorstep. The marketing of the car was most certainly mis-handled, and the foot-dragging at GM that prevented any Holdens getting here before '04 was another stupid move. Add in greedy dealers, iffy shipping schedules, the hurry-up job of getting the car ready for the US market, the intro of the new Mustang, the knowledge that a new Camaro and Challenger were coming, gas prices, a fickle press and a fickle public, and the car never got a fair shake. Even so, it was a profitable car for GM, its owners love it, it set a new standard for GM interiors, it proved that Holdens really can be brought here, gave Pontiac some legitimate and much needed performance credibility, kept quite a few F-body lovers from going to Ford, won a number of racing championships, and made me smile the first time I drove one (and every time since). Failure? I think not.
  17. Over 5K for insurance!!! That's just insane. I pay much less than half of that to insure 5 vehicles.
  18. That would be the most likely scenario as getting it done at all will only happen if the expenses are kept to a minimum. I suppose that there is an outside chance that it could get the RWD Impala nose. I'd rather see that or even a Camaroesque nose, but I think I'll have to settle for the ME lumina version.
  19. No, I didn't get your note - one of the auction twits must have removed it. It was so funny that I was staring at your car (looking for a positive ID) when you called out to me. Maybe next time. I hope customs doesn't hassle you too much.
  20. Sadly, no. I sold it a few months ago. The '98 Hawk is still here- for now.
  21. Actually its a '76 Sprint. :AH-HA_wink: Saw it on my way in on Thursday. OCN and I , scoped one out at the show too. I was very tempted to buy it.
  22. Sorry we didn't run into you there, would have been cool. I came up empty on Camino parts (that weren't attached to a car).
  23. I mostly don't even see the humans at a car show.
  24. Outperform and underprice BMW, and you have a winning combination. As long as the marketing is done right. You don't even have to take their business to make it work, plenty of folks aspire to BMW but can't (or don't want to) spend the money for one. It's obvious.
  25. I didn't really meet him, we just yelled across the road to each other as I was waiting at the light. The funny part was, I was staring at his car trying to decide if it was his car when he called out to me. No on the Camino - I resisted temptation.
