  1. Keep us posted,AR.
  2. 16.5 MPG? I would have been overjoyed to get that in my '01. I was lucky to get 10-11 MPG downhill with a tailwind!
  3. Requote for truth.
  4. I enjoyed the Labrea tar pits too- very cool stuff. While I was there, I rented a '68 Lemans Convertible. My guess is that you could still rent vintage 'verts for a reasonable price.
  5. I had a 2001 2500HD with the 6.0 and while I loved the truck and the way the engine ran, it was a complete pig on fuel. I got better mileage from my '90 3500 with a TBI 454. My current 2500HD (2005) is a Duramax/Allison equipped beast and I won't be going back to gas engines in anything beyond a 1500. I suspect that the Allison would help the 6.0 do better than my old '01 did, but I don't imagine it would help enough.
  6. I have been working HD Chevys hard for 22 years. I have had the old C/K trucks, the GMT400, and GMT800 and all performed exceptionally well. If I had any doubts about GM's IFS, they evaporated back in 1988. It is a tough and durable front suspension that simply puts a solid axle to shame in the handling and ride categories while enduring everything I've ever thrown at it . No failures. Not one. Ever. The Duramax is the best diesel on the planet and the allison is the best transmission - period. I had always hated diesels until I drove this combo, now I will never choose anything else for a work truck.
  7. You might be better off with the Blazer. Not much new to report on the Camino, except that I went to pick up supplies and the engine hoist today. With any luck the drivetrain transplant from Camino to wagon will take place this weekend. Get anywhere with that sketch?
  8. I might like that.
  9. Thanks XP, looking forward to seeing those pics.
  10. It just occured to me that a matching "toolbox" done in the same wood and stainless might look pretty good mounted in the front of the bed.
  11. I was thinking the same thing,Z. But then I got to wondering if a darker color would work too. So, I sent them an email asking for pics of the different woods. I'm guessing that a white oak would be best. Edit: Which leads me back to the interior color. If I go with a light wood, then I think a light interior will be required.
  12. Can anyone chop my orange into this pic?
  13. The one concern I do have is figuring out what kind of wood to use so it looks good with the metallic orange paint.
  14. No sweat there,Z. The bed will be completely refinished even if I do this, and the wood is easily removed for cleaning. :AH-HA_wink:
  15. I'm kinda liking this idea: http://www.horkeyswoodandparts.com/showdeck1.htm
  16. I could really use one of those...
  17. My pleasure.
  18. Intermittent wipers?
  19. That would be even harder to find than the stock EC stuff! XP: I think about the swivels as an option, but then I back away because that would really require a console, shifter, and different steering column. I just rebuilt my column afterall. Still, it's a possibility.
  20. The weather is not cooperating so no progress to report. I did get the wagon off of the trailer and into the garage next to the Camino, they are both waiting for things to warm up so the drivetrain transplant can happen. I had to push the parts car and the Mothertruck by myself, so they aren't exactly where I want them to be. But, I should have enough room to get the job done when it finally warms up. Meantime: A new NOS hood is on its way and I'd love to see some more chops/sketches if anyone is up to it. I'm starting to think about a custom interior rather than chasing all of the stock parts down. I'm not sure I want to go with this idea, but a good chop session might convince me. :AH-HA_wink: If anyone wants to give that a try, let me know and I'll take some interior shots and post them.
  21. We all hate the G names, hopefully this car will become the Grand Prix in a few years.
  22. I think he would have understood the need for the G8, but the Aztek would never have even seen clay mock-up.
