  1. Not half bad as articles on this topic go. But, it doesn't even scratch the surface of the energy savings we could achieve by really addressing non-automotive consumption.
  2. Let's just say it has a lingering effect. And its better than prescriptions anyway, since you are ,in effect, training your mind to relax.
  3. Here are some pics of the simple repairs I made last night to pass inspection. The parking lights are GM restoration parts from the El Camino Store, which are exact reproduction that fit perfectly. The other two shots are the parts car buried under new parts, and what might be the last pic of the car as it is now. I also replaced both front marker bulbs and removed a bad license plate bulb which I will pick up on the way to inspection. Now I'm off to get my stickers.
  4. It comes with a payment book, you know. :AH-HA_wink:
  5. Hmmm, Long roof racing? :AH-HA_wink:
  6. Well, I've all but decided to let it keep its headers and duals. They are in good shape, but a bit to ugly to put on the Camino. No matter what eventually happens with the wagon, it will start out with the engine & trans from the Camino - and soon!
  7. Alien!
  8. Cort: I don't feel negatively about it at all! In a way, it is comforting because you know that your still Human when you feel like that. Oh, and I didn't mean to imply anything about your use of "busy" it just hit me that Ive been thinking that way lately. translation: It's cool!
  9. Only if alpha depends upon Caddy.
  10. When they wreck 'em down under, they wreck 'em with authority !
  11. Icons of poor taste. But funny.

  13. I'm really tired so I hope this makes sense. As you all may have guessed , I'm something of an insomniac and I discovered this while trying to get to sleep. This is my process: I try to lie down and be comfortable with the position I land in. If I'm not, I start over. Once comfortable, I wait for my breathing and heart rate to slow (and will them to do so). Then, I close my eyes and try to concentrate on only feeling the farther extremities of my body(finger/toes). I concentrate on the sensations there( cool, warm, maybe an itch). If there is an itch, I try to use my mind to eliminate the sensation (this can work if you don't try too hard, otherwise you can start itching all over). If I fail, I back up at least one step. At this point (barring itches) I really only feel the tips of my fingers and toes, so I begin the next step. I then try to move my points of concentration slowly away from my extremities leaving each area of my body shut down sensationwise as I pass it. Eventually, I have done this for my whole body and remain very, very still. Remember, the eyes have been closed this entire time. At this point, I begin to look at what there is too "see" with my closed eyes. Generally, this will be the illusion of color and motion. The next step is to "look around" without moving my eyes. In other words, I will move my perception rather than the eyes themselves. I have always refered to what I am seeing as "purple dust clouds" which are constantly swirling and shifting. Watching these clouds is my method of not thinking about anything at all, which is very hard to do if you are trying. If I've done all of this just right, the next thing I know it's morning. Hope this helps and doesn't seem too strange.
  14. Holy *$ !
  15. Thanks! For a while there, I was beginning to wonder of you all thought I was nuts.
  16. Now THAT is fascinating! I love the potential benefits implied in that brief description of the process.
  17. This is a universal, and very human, feeling. I will say, though, that I have set myself up to be VERY busy for quite a while and that I'm enjoying being busy. Though I should be feeling overwhelmed with all that needs to be done in a short period of time, I'm not. In fact, I feel less stressed than I have in a long time. Amongst all of this I remember the small things about those I have lost, and their essential humanity comes back to me as clearly as it did when they were still here. Endlessly amazing and yet completely simple, this is what it means to be alive knowing that you are mortal after all.
  18. The first four I can't even begin to care about, so I guess that leaves the Durango. Where the hell did you come up with that list?
  19. I'm not going to go into what I was talking about earlier unless Oldsmoboi requests it. Suffice it to say its my own method for clearing my mind. Other than that, there are some great suggestions above which I can wholeheartedly echo with: Reading a good work of fiction Listening to mellow music, especially if it is live on an acoustic guitar or piano. Writing anything you feel: prose, poetry, lyrics, stream-of - consciouness... anything at all. Singing, even if you aren't any good. Driving nowhere in particular on a sunny day in a car you like. Any kind of physical activity that you enjoy Completing a project you want to do. (or just putting in a good day's work on it) Waking up as slowly as you want on a day off, sitting in the sun or a sunny window, maybe reading a while, having a snack you enjoy and a beverage or two of your choice.
  20. Did some quick work so I can get inspection/emission stickers tomorrow ahead of the teardown and... Whew! I'm tired. But, the job is done (except for a license plate bulb) and I should have stickers tomorrow. Today, I got set-up with a guy who does sandblasting and chassis painting and he is ready when I am. I figure that I should have the drivetrain transferred to the wagon within the week. Hopefully the disassembly of the front end and all the gingerbread should only take a few more days than that. He's going to prop the body up on wood blocks so he can get to the whole frame and underbelly for painting purposes. I'm going to try to get all of the surfaces as gease-free as possible before I take it to him. The next few weeks should provide lots of pics for everyone to see and I will do my best to show as much as I can. Tonight's tech observation: removing the parking lights without an offset screwdriver is a PITA! It can be done, as I managed it, but I would have been much better off if I had found my offset! Also, the threaded plastic mounts for the headlight adjusters are crap even if they are not broken they are loose. I'll try to remember to replace all 8 when it all goes back together. Fortunately, the parts car provided a serviceable one for now. I may be using the tailgate from the parts car as it seems to only have a small amount of surface rust. The one on the project car, while entirely rust-free was a bit mangled by some amatuer dent pulling by some previous owner. While the chassis and underside are being tended to, I need to rig-up some sort of stand to sit the body on when it comes back so I have full access to the chassis to do the suspension, fuel lines/pump, any brake work, etc. Not quite sure how I'm going to do it yet.
  21. No, it may be a little weird but nothing so bizarre as that. At least, I hope not. Then again, it might.
  22. I have a method that I use which I just sort of came up with on my own. If you really want, I can try to explain it in a later post. I'm really on a mission this evening and time is a bit short. Let me know.
  23. Can I get an "AMEN"?
  24. I think I need to go on a boneyard hunt for interior pieces and such pretty soon. Problem is, most of the local boneyards have disappeared.
